Chapter 5:
At The Elvenking's Camp

Meanwhile, a man called Hawkeye was also traveling the Mirkwood road, weary, hungry, tired and very eager to go to whatever his destination may be. But that day fate had called upon, when he heard the sounds of the battle the group had been bitterly fighting. He then saw a most fearsome scene-- dozens of spiders surrounding a handful of Men and Elves, fighting for their lives. And in the middle is the largest of the spiders laughing evilly as an elf, Elenluin, is on his knees, looking very exhausted.

Suddenly Elenluin stood up looked straight at Kaskarut, with the star on his forehead begun to shine with a pale-blue light. The elf tried to block the spider's intrusion in his mind, knowing that if he succumbs to the feelings of fury and of revenge for his father, he will be lost.

Kaskarut is now rapidly getting tired of her game, since she failed to break Elenluin's psyche. She tried to escape the battle but suddenly an arrow shot out of nowhere and lodge near her belly. It came from the newcomer, Hawkeye. Then all hell broke loose, the other spiders becoming murderously crazy with the wounding of their "mother" and the battle continued more furiously. But Kaskarut did not mind her children, her mind focused on one thing-- the man who had dared try to kill her. Forgetting everything, even her own terrible wound, she cornered Hawkeye. The spider then swiftly stung him, effectively paralyzing him and wrapped him in her silky threads.

Seeing that the stranger will die if they did not help him, Karla rushed to confront the great spider herself. Theomer seeing that Karla is unbelievably willing to take on Kaskarut on her own, went to her side.

Fortunately, Elenluin had thought of a plan. Calling on everybody to give him a part of their life force (except for Carisan who had relapsed into his previous injuries and Idra whom they give to Firiel, a woodland elf who had also came to the battle scene, to protect). He then combined it all and a strange blue light eminated from him and suddenly flashed brightly, stunning and immobilizing Kaskarut. Elenluin fainted, all his strength drained from him completely. Then Glorielin then drew her sword and aided by the sun rising from the east, she slayed the Great Spider. Kaskarut shrieked her death scream and then dropped lifelessly to the ground.

Though they had won the battle, it was not without a high cost. Carisan is very much hurt, his new injuries adding to his past ones, Enuvian is missing, Elenluin is unconscious and Glorielin though standing looked very exhausted (as will all of them, it seems) and about to go down too. But most of all, the stranger who shot the arrow bore the gravest injuries and is still probably affected by Kaskarut's sting. It was quite fortunate that Firiel (who had been on the side, protecting the girl Idra) had invited them to the camp of his king, Thranduil, the King of the Woodland Elves. With Firiel as their guide, they followed him to the Elven camp.

They are met by a group of Healers and one of King Thranduil's lords, Haldamir. Elenluin, Carisan and the bowman was taken by the Healers with the rest of them were to be escorted to their tents to freshen up. But they are concerned with Enuvian being missing. They insisted on meeting the king at once. They were led to King Thranduil's tent where the King of the Woodland Realm greeted them warmly. Though he invited them to rest for a while, the group declined, for they have to find their missing friend, Enuvien soon, lest the evil that lurks in the forest find him first. Therefore King Thranduil called upon Haldamir to assemble a group or his elves to help Glorielin, Karla and Theomer find their friend. And so the three along with the elf rangers, went back to the forest to find Enuvien. Michael Hague -- The King of the Elves of the Wood

Meanwhile, Carisan and Elenluin were tended by the Healers at their makeshift infirmary. While Carisan slept, he too began to see himself in a strange dream.

Carisan suddenly woke up and curiously, asked for some books on magic. The elf who talked to him couldn't help him in his request but urged Carisan to rest for a while. But he didn't stay resting for long, soon he tried to get up but only to faint once again.

Alarmed, the Healers called on the elf king for help. But Thranduil have not the expertise to see what is wrong with Carisan, especially since whatever is troubling the man has something to do with magic that was beyond his capability. All that they can do is make Carisan as comfortable as possible and hope that all will be well soon.

On the other hand, Elenluin is doing far better now, after Thranduil worked hard to bring back Elenluin from wherever land in between reality and dreams he had walked for a while. Strangely, waking up for a moment, after his ordeal, he muttered the name "Arwen" before going into a deep but normal sleep. Later, Elenluin was well enough to get up from the bed to visit the more unfortunate Carisan.

Glorielin, Theomer, and Karla are having a difficult time in their search. Things took for a bad turn when Karla, while helping a wolf pup, had encountered a great spider. She had succeeded in killing it though but not without her being harmed. Fortunately, the elves had brought a cordial that had helped her (as well as the others) regain her strength. Then a wolf had appeared, and they learn that she is the wolf pup's mother. Being grateful for them rescuing her daughter, she offered to guide them through the forest.

After a few hours of searching, the day is now turning slowly into night. Yet they still haven't found Enuvien. Disturbed by this, Theomer suggested they turn back to the camp or else the evil that lives in the forest might show themselves to them. But the suggestion was discarded for Karla and Glorielin felt that they will find their lost friend, especially with the help of their new wolf friend. Then the group heard a new sound-- a weary traveler is trudging the forest path too.
