P ousada, in Portuguese, is a place of rest and welcome. The Pousadas of Portugal offer the traveler magnificent destinations from which the country can be discovered. They allow you a glimpse into history, art, fine cuisine and traditional Portuguese life.The Pousadas preserve irreplaceable structures while offering travelers a chance to eat and sleep in palaces, castles and convents. Because the Pousadas are so popular, you should make reservations in advance of your trip. The Pousada restaurants offer you the opportunity to experience the fine regional recipes artfully seasoned and the desserts cleverly invented and sweetened in the convents throughout the past centuries. And needless to say, the meal is always served with the famous Portuguese wines. We have included a few Pousadas in each of our visits. I've also met people who have only stayed in Pousadas for their entire trip through Portugal. That is pretty easy to do since the Pousadas are located throughout the country. No visit to Portugal is complete without a visit to or an overnight stay in a Pousada.
