The sun insolently
radiates at the sky
the blooms on your
grave, Marian,
gasp
for breath and water
Your marble tombstone remains still
and quiet
under it
rests your body
very peaceful now and still.
We drove together in the
car
you breathed
jerky in spite off the saving oxygen
on lightest jerk a painful grimace
went through your
tortured body.
Stepping out was a hell
for a short time
missing oxygen
at
same time transshipping to the hard wheelchair.
In the clean doctor's
office the long needle
glided searching through your ribs
to the menacing fluid in your lungs
For a moment bringing some
relief
until
seeping in again from everywhere
graceless cutting breathe and
life
Though you had the eternal silent
smile
the
persistent feature around your mouth
your teeth hard on each other
fighting to keep
upright
fighting
against the chilliness of death
But rocks too break off
make way for the
battering power of water
your inner force could no more buttress
that frail body … and resigned
I stand here near to you
and taste in my mouth
that simple, discouraging word
almost same letters
a totally enclosed word
