ADRIANNE RULES THE RUNWAY: AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL REVEALED
"The judges have reached a decision; one of you is about to be a star in a matter of minutes. Your life is going to change." With those words, Tyra Banks announced Adrianne, 20, from Joliet, Illinois, America's Next Top Model. Weeks of grueling competition, high emotions and a trip halfway around the world had brought the Illinois native to this pinnacle moment. Reeling and crying from the triumph, Adrianne exclaimed, "I want to have a good life now. My family's going to have a good life. A lot is going to change. And it kicks so much ass!"

FREE YOUR MIND
With Robin gone, attitudes changed in the house almost immediately. Adrianne felt a lot more open and free to act the way she wanted to "without getting in trouble," and Elyse was pleased that Shannon might have a chance to be more herself. Shannon missed Robin, saying, "She was so like my mother in the house, but I do feel comfortable with Elyse and Adrianne. They're fun, and at least now I can be more outgoing in a way and I don't have to worry about being quiet all the time."

The remaining three girls did their best to speculate about what would happen over the next few days, but they were all surprised to be in the final three. Tyra informed them that their next challenge would be a huge part of the New York modeling world: a fashion show during Fashion Week. The girls primped to go meet Drew Linehan, a fashion show producer in New York, who would fill them in on what they'd need to know. He explained that the shows could make or break a career because hugely important people in the fashion world would be sitting in the front row. He continued, "Your hair is being ripped out, your feet are being shoved into shoes that don't fit; it's tough." Elyse wasn't exactly enthralled with Drew's lecture, and Drew noticed that she was drifting off during the meeting.

KILLING TIME
When the meeting was over, the girls headed home, and Adrianne's antics with Elyse alternately cracked Shannon up and surprised her. Elyse remarked, "The more I get to know Shannon, the more I like her. I think she's really, really genuine." Adrianne agreed, saying with a smile, "I have really enjoyed our past couple of days because my evil influence has brought out the worst in Shannon."

The girls spent a lot of time together, shopping in New York City, enjoying each other's company and joking around. Shannon was happy not to be a third wheel, thrilled that she never felt left out with Adrianne and Elyse. Eventually they got Tyra Mail, which told them to be ready for a fashion casting that night at 7:30 pm, hair and make-up done.

PRACTICE
The task was a go-see with Kimora Lee Simmons' Baby Phat Fashions, and Tyra explained, "You're going to have to take a personal style and incorporate what Kimora calls a 'stomp,' which she then demonstrated. She strutted down a long hallway and gave attitude at the end of it, and the girls followed suit.

Tyra said, "Elyse could potentially rock the fashion world. I mean, she is perfect. But I don't know if Elyse really wants this enough, and girls who are ambivalent are not usually successful." Adrianne lamented about Elyse, "She hates everything we do, yet she's the best at it." Tyra believed Shannon needed to add layers of depth and edge to her style to be successful, and Elyse felt Shannon had knocked herself out of the competition by not doing the nude photo shoot. Tyra explained, "Adrianne has come such a long way, and she really wants this, but she is still so rough around the edges. She needs a lot of polishing." Shannon admired Adrianne's honesty, saying, "She doesn't care what others think of her; she's going to be who she is no matter what."

The girls arrived and were met by Kimora, the owner of Baby Phat, and reintroduced them to Jay Alexander, runway expert. Adrianne was up first, and she felt she had not done a good job due to her tendency to walk heavily. Kimora was impressed with Shannon's walk, and noted that she'd been practicing. Elyse did her walk, and admitted to Kimora that she was nervous. When they were through, the girls headed back to the Flatotel to regroup, only to receive Tyra Mail announcing that one of them would soon be eliminated.
WHY ME?
When discussing who should win AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL, Adrianne remarked, "I think I deserve it because I came a really long way since I came here. I just try to do my best every time we do anything." Shannon explained, "When you give something like your best, you just give your all, you feel like you should be rewarded." Elyse differed completely in her assessment of the competition, saying, "I don't think that it's acceptable to say that anyone deserves to win this competition. It's really not a basic human right to get a modeling contract."

The next elimination began with the judges' introductions, Janice, Beau, Kimora, and special guest judge Drew Linehan. Elyse was up first, and she demonstrated what she'd learned about posing. Drew asked why she chose to compete, and she replied, "I tried out for this on just a total whim, it was a silly little place right by my house, and I thought it would be fun." Tyra explained that Elyse initially did not feel that there was much to being a good model beyond the physical. Elyse commented that she had learned there's more. Her opinion still held that a top model must possess physical beauty, and she explained the benefits of being born with higher estrogen, which shapes the face into proportions that are considered beautiful. The judges didn't quite go for it, Janice implying that it went right over her head.

Adrianne posed next, and the judges grilled her to see if she were ready for a cutthroat, hardcore fashion show, and she believed she was. Shannon was last up, and following her poses, Drew asked her if she knew the names of photographers for Vogue. She didn't, and Janice pressed upon her that she needed to know the industry if she wanted to work in it. When she said she didn't know her measurements, Tyra responded, "You should know your real measurements and your fake measurements."

ELIMINATION SHOCK
The deliberations began, and there was great debate about Elyse. Everyone agreed that she was perfect for high fashion, but Tyra said that America's Next Top Model should also be able to do commercial modeling as well, and Kimora didn't like how she came off as a "know-it-all." Janice really wanted her to stay, but Tyra wasn't sure she was dedicated enough to the job. Adrianne's vast improvement was lauded, but she didn't impress Drew (much to Janice's dismay.) Tyra felt that Shannon "is the only one I can see on the couch of Jay Leno or David Letterman," but wasn't sure if she could make the leap to high fashion.

The girls all expressed how badly they want to stick around, and Elyse said, "Shannon told me that Jesus told her that I would be staying here, so that makes me feel pretty comfortable." To her shock, Shannon was chosen first, and Tyra explained that "you have to live and breathe this industry," as Shannon came close to breaking down.

Elyse and Adrianne stepped forward, arms around each other. It was tough on Adrianne, because she'd always felt that if they went up against each other, Elyse would win. Elyse said earlier, "Adrianne is definitely my closest ally in the house, but I think that Adrianne is really expecting to win." Tyra advised Adrianne to continue working on her speech, and said that Elyse had to soften up her look if she wanted to be a more commercial model. "I think you are sooo smart," Tyra said, "but one thing about intelligence is that it can intimidate people, and there's a way to use that intelligence that doesn't feel like you're maybe putting down other people." Adrianne and Elyse clasped hands, the last time they would both appear in front of the judges. The two friends faced the fact that they would soon part ways. As Adrianne's name was called to continue, she embraced Elyse and nearly dissolved in tears as she accepted her picture.

LOGIC RULES
Elyse said in the aftermath, "Tyra said that I was arrogant and condescending in my speech with others, and I think she was right. I can't say that it feels good to be eliminated, but I also can't deny there's a certain sense of relief that comes with it." As always, Elyse accepted the judgment with panache, and knew she'd be able to continue on a different path. "It sucks to lose at anything," she explained, "but the decision has been made for me, and I'll be a doctor and not a top model. When I leave, I'll be gone forever."

The two remaining girls headed to a salon to have their hair done in preparation for the fashion show. Adrianne was exhausted, saying, "I couldn't sleep last night. It was a weird mixture of overjoyed-ness and being upset. I would think I'd go home against Elyse just because she's a genius and I'm a high school dropout." When they arrived back, they had Tyra Mail saying they had to be ready for dinner at Blue Fin.

Jay Manuel, Jay Alexander and Tyra joined them at the restaurant, and the girls dished on the competitors that had gone before them. Shannon said Tessa seemed like her biggest competition at the beginning, and that she'd felt Nicole might be the one to win it all. Everyone loved Kesse and her free-spiritedness, but Adrianne really didn't care for Robin, who seemed to her to be very two-faced and unkind. When dinner was finished, Tyra hopped up and busted a move to help the girls loosen up for the next day. They all boogied together, and the girls headed back to the Flatotel for the long night of anticipation.

Adrianne said, "I've really enjoyed our last couple of days together. We're complete opposites, but at least she doesn't give me sh*t for being who I am." As Shannon hit the sack, Adrianne quipped, "Tomorrow we fight to the death!"

JITTERS
The next morning, Shannon and Adrianne arrived for the fashion show fitting, and Kimora outfitted them in some super glam clothes. Adrianne said, "I'm a little nervous, but I've gone so far, and done so much here, that I wouldn't trade this experience for anything in the world." Shannon was nervous too, but her excitement seemed to overshadow it. "There's no retouching on the runway; there is no room for mistakes," Tyra warned, "Hopefully it was fierce. Hopefully it was perfect. And if it wasn't, then the whole room, and the whole world, just saw you screw up."

The packed house was filled with thousands of onlookers. As Adrianne and Shannon waited backstage, a glittering assemblage of celebrities, fashion mavens and other exotic and elite people from high society and fashion awaited their entrance. With the photographer's flashes illuminating the packed house, the judges cheered when the girls made their debuts on the catwalk. "Being on that stage with those lights," Shannon exclaimed, "it just transformed me." Beau noted, "I thought it was going to be a very clear-cut decision, but it's proved to be a little harder than that." Adrianne and Shannon both confidently strode down the runway as they strove to use everything they had learned over the past several weeks. The fashion world looked on as the two amateurs made several walks. Their faces were stone-cold, but the emotions were running high. The judges looked on in glee as their two creations strutted their stuff among the other established models.

The last night in the hotel, the girls sat in their room, mulling things over. When Adrianne asked, "Are you scared?" Shannon replied, "Yes." Adrianne was really hoping to win, "because I'm busting my balls trying to win this thing."

LAST TWO STANDING
For the final elimination, the girls arrived dressed to kill, and though they tried to hide it, they definitely felt the pressure. There would be no guest judge, so the four original judges could make the decision based on everything that the girls had experienced since the beginning. Tyra went through each girl's portfolio from past weeks, and the judges each admired the girls for expressing their sexuality in different shots (although they were still disappointed to be missing one of Shannon semi-nude).

Given an opportunity to give the judges some final words, Shannon offered, "I may not have been perfect on everything, but I've tried to learn and tried to get better. I can become that supermodel; I got it in me." Adrianne said with a grateful smile, "This has been one of the best experiences of my life. I found out I can be more than just a woman; I can be a sex machine in my pictures, which is really cool. It's so different from the way I am at home, and I'm really proud that I can be that woman." Janice told them both, "You girls have grown by leaps and bounds; it's just amazing. We're all so proud of you."

CHOOSING
The deliberations began one final time, with Janice noting that she felt Shannon really came into her own on the runway, and that she kicked serious butt by "morphing into a model." Beau didn't agree, saying that while Shannon imitated a model, Adrianne "was more herself, and I saw more potential in Adrianne to develop." Kimora felt that Adrianne could go further because of the edge and depth to her, while Beau remarked, "You can tell Adrianne's lived a little more. There's something cooking behind Adrianne's eyes." Tyra told everyone she'd found her notes from when the competition began with 20 semifinalists, and while she found Shannon very commercial and sellable, next to Adrianne's name, she'd written the word "NO." Janice commented that Shannon "was dope last night," and Beau agreed. Finally, the judges commented that they were ready to make their decision. The moment had arrived.

AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL
This was it, what it all had come down to. Thousands of women had auditioned for this moment. Many had tried, 10 were chosen, and now two remained. All the emotions of the past several weeks were packed into the few short moments leading up to the final revelation. Shannon and Adrianne slowly walked forward to stand before the judges.

Tyra reiterated what was at stake for them: the myriad prizes that would await the winner. "The judges have reached a decision. One of you is about to be a star in a matter of minutes. Your life is going to change." Tyra announced that the winner's photo was hanging behind her, covered by a cloth that would be dropped to reveal the winner. The girls couldn't believe it as they stared at the covered photo that would determine their fate.

Tyra gave the girls a few last comments. To Adrianne she remarked, "You have transformed, like Cinderella. When I looked at you in LA for semifinals, I was, like, I don't think she'll make it to the finals. And you're standing here." To Shannon she said, "You walked that runway last night like you were a diva. You stole that show. That show was yours."

"The decision is made." With that, Tyra dropped the cloth to reveal the face of Adrianne. The two girls hugged, as Adrianne stood stunned in disbelief. Her voice cracking, Adrianne explained, "I wasn't expecting to se my face up there." Shannon smiled and told Adrianne, "congratulations!" On her way out, she added, "I made it this far, and a lot of girls would definitely want to be in my position and they're not."

Meanwhile, Adrianne hugged Tyra as her own image overlooked the room. Tyra commented, "Adrianne ended up prevailing because of her edginess. She has a beauty that is undeniable and a personality that is so dynamic. Adrianne is now." The newly crowned model hugged all the judges, and Janice, always truthful and open, couldn't help commenting that "I didn't vote for you!"

Still reeling, still crying, Adrianne exclaimed, "I want to have a good life now. My family's going to have a good life. A lot is going to change. And it kicks so much ass!" And with that, Adrianne begins a new journey as AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL.
