Day 1
You will arrive in Mexico's capital. A dinner will be provided at one of Mexico City's most historic restaurants, Cafe Tacuba located in the beautiful Centro Historico. Founded in 1912 this fine dining spot is where many interesting Mexican artists and politicians have spent an evening.

 

 
 

Day 2
On day two you will board your travel coach away from the city towards Teotihuacan. Here you will walk through the ruins of the spiritual center of of the Aztec Empire and, if you dare, climb to the top of the Pyramids of the Sun and Moon. Afterward you will travel east twards the Gulf Coast to spend the night and rest for the next day's activity.

 

Day 3
At El Tajin you will witness the spectacular voladores, "flyers". These high flyers practice the ancient art of pole flying as did their Totonaca ancestors. Tajin is also the site of one Veracruz's most important Totonaca ruins. After the day at the archeological site, the tour will proceed to the Gulf Coast and the small beach town of Casitas Veracruz, where we will enjoy the next two days on some of Mexico least visited, but gorgeous beaches.

 

 
 

Day 4
Near Casitas is a wonderful local to relax and enjoy the sea. Those who wish to spend the day on the beach are welcome to take in the view the beautiful Veracruz coast.

 

Day 5
The fifth day of the tour we pack up from Casitas and head south towards Zempoala, an archeological site near Veracruz. As well, we will journey to Mexico's oldest port and one of its most interesting and historical cities, Veracruz. Here we will visit the historic port of San Juan de Ulua where Moctezuma's envoys and Cortes are said to have had their first encounter.

 

 
 

Day 6
We leave early in order to enjoy the next day in Southern Veracruz. Catemaco sets on the banks of a beautiful lake that is surrounded by volcanic hills. The lake has many islands, one of which is inhabited by white monkeys. We will rest that evening in cabins on the nearby Nanciyaga Ecological Reserve.

 

Day 7
Day seven will be spent in the small city of Tlacotalpan. It was the home town of the important Mexican composer, Agustin Lara. Tlactotalpan sits on the confluence of two major rivers and is known for its architecture, music and tranquility.

 

 
 

Day 8
Day eight of the tour we will visit the capital of the state of Veracruz, Xalapa. Xalapa is situated in a scenic tropical valley in one of Mexico's most important coffee growing regions. On the first day we will journey off to a couple of interesting pueblos, a half an hour from Xalapa. The first town we will visit is Coatepec where we will sample some of the world's finest coffee and view a beautiful orchid garden. The last part of the day we will spend in another small town, Xico. Xico is known for it's tasty mole dishes. While there we'll hike to a picturesque waterfall just outside of town.

 

Day 9
The second day in Xalapa we will visit one of North America's most important museums of anthropology, which has the famous collection of Olmec stone heads that are some 3,000 years old. That night we will take a peaceful stroll around the lakeside path on the campus of the National University of Veracruz.

 

 
 

Day 10
Our last full day of the tour we return to Mexico City. We arrive in the southern part of the city and visit the Frida Kahlo Museum located in the bohemian neighborhood of Coyoacan. The last night all are invited to a special meal at the home of a friend, Dona Magdalena.

 

Day 11
Return back to San Francisco Bay Area.
