Who are the mentors? |
 |
The meaning of mentors is a
trusted counselor or guide. We are a group of volunteers
who commit our time on every Saturday afternoon to help
the children in their studies and their problems. |
 |
We hope to be a role model
or an inspiration to them. We mentors are commited to
a one-to-one relationship with the primary school children.
We meet up regulary (once a week) to share meaningful
activities and to act as a "Homework Overseer"
where the child studies are concern. |

Who are the mentees? |
 |
Mentees are a group of students
which TP-BP Mentors help. Like any other people, these
students who has just taken their first step in life will
face difficulties. Very often, all that is required to
turn things around is an additional bit of guidance and
affection. |
 |
Together with the participating
schools, the Scheme identifies pupils who need that additional
guidance and push. In doing so, our mentors hope to help
the mentees realise their highest potential. |

Why TP-BP Mentoring Scheme? |
 |
There are a number of ongoing
community service projects in Temasek Polytechnic. You
may be wondering what makes us different from these community
services. |
 |
We are different because we
give long-term commitment to the children we help. We
do not work on project basis. We committed ourselves to
help the children until they complete their PSLE. However,
sometimes, the help can even extend beyond primary six.

4.
What do we do? |
 |
In the scheme, Mentors spend
2 hours every week on Saturday at the primary school with
the students. We help the kids in their academic work
as well as any personal problems they may encounter. |
 |
At the same time, the Mentors
are the positive role models for the primary school students
through meaningful and educational activities conducted
during the session. |
 |
Besides helping the primary
school students, we also develop and train the Mentors.
Putting our Networking Session which occur on every last
Saturday of the month, enable us to interact with each
other, to update ourselves and to share some teaching
tips. |

 |
To be a mentor, you need to
have:
- Love and compassion for children
- Willingness to do sacrifices to teach the children
- Commitment for at least a full term of 1 year. |
 |
Basically we need you to be
like a big brother or sister to the little brothers &
sisters in the mentoring schools. |
