Saint Matildas is located in Queen Creek ,Arizona (East of Phoenix), on 5.5 acres of land. We opened our hearts and our home to potbelly pigs following the arrival of our 2 first pet pigs Frankie and Matilda. It was after researching the breed that we became aware of the high numbers of them that needed homes. These high numbers can be attributed to some breeders, owners not realising that a potbelly pig can exceed over 100# , zoning rules and a long list of other reasons. Some pigs that find their way to Saint Matildas are deemed unadoptable, and therefore will remain with us here at the sanctuary, enjoying belly rubs, a healthy diet, medical care and MUD! We do adopt pigs out, but only to suitable adopters, who are fully aware of the long term responsibility of owning a pet pig. Upon arrival at Saint Matildas, all pigs are vaccinated and medically assessed by our potbelly pig vet, and all males are neutered. After being assessed over a period of a few weeks , we then decide if a pig is adoptable. Some reasons we won't adopt a pig out is, if we feel that the pig has been "uprooted" too much and needs a more stable environment, if the pig has special needs eg. blindness, obesity etc .Our policy is always to put the pigs best interest first .
