Year 2001 in a Nut Shell
This year has been quite interesting and eventful. To start the year off the Air Force decided to send me to another country for a few months. So February 25th I set off on an adventure. My new position was the NCOIC, Commanders Support Staff at the 48th Expeditionary Intelligence Squadron in San Vito, Italy. The job was fast paced, with in/out processing personnel, setting up commanders calls/Hail and Farewells, and keeping the snack fund full of food. The base has been closed down for quite a few years now so of course there are no dining facilities on base. Part of my job was to travel with the Postal guy to Naples to shop for groceries at the Naval Commissary. Tough job I know. It wasn't that bad at first, but believe me it was rough towards the end. It was a 3 hour drive one way. Driving there and back in addition to shopping equaled one LONG day. On our off time the First Sergeant would set up small tours around the area or my girlfriend and I would literally flip a coin to see what direction the vehicles would take us. We visited Alberabello, Bari, Brindisi, Lecce (I went to see a Eropean Football game), Mesagne (where I got my latest tattoo), Naples, Ostun, Otoranto,Rome, and San Vito dei Normanni. (I plan to have my Italy pictures on here
later. Please check back.) I left Italy on June 1st, and headed back home. Home coming was different and pretty emotional. Stone was now much taller, talking in broken sentences and sleeping in his big-boy-bed. He took a little while for him to warm up to me, but within about 30 minutes he was semi-back to normal. Brianna was also taller and more mature from playing the mommy role for the last 3 months. She looked a little different having one tooth less since the last time I saw her. In July, I hit my 10 year mark in the military. I loved it so much I re-enlisted for another 6 years. To add to the excitement of reaching my half way point, the military blessed me with another assignment. This one is to Germany! Geilenkirchen Air Base, a NATO base located near the border of Belgium and the Netherlands. We will be leaving in December and will be there for at least 36 months. It will be rough on the kids not having Christmas at home, but we are going to try to take a detour to Michigan to spend it with Lawson's family. Brianna is excited, going to another school and having teachers visit their classes to teach them the language. Stone just tells people we are moving to "Dermany". Unfortunately our dog Nikki will not be joining us. But Lawson's Mom has asked if she could take her. Sebastian, our cat will be coming with us. We will keep you all informed when we actually settle down. There is no housing on this base so we will be living on the economy. Of course we will let everyone know our new e-mail and stuff too. |
