Out in the Green
11.7.1998, Switzerland
After the band of the belgian sisters from K's Choice Transister
came onstage. Transister is fronted by a new female rockstar Keely
Hawkes. With her companions she has a truly interesting sound. It
is rock, but also pop. She roared in an interesting transparent
dress over the awakening masses. The fact that the concert started
with the tecno-oriented 'Head' was defining, because the band plays
songs that vary between triphop and rock. And this is another example
of a beautiful female singer combined with a commercially succesful
mix of computer and rock music. A true festivalband, which still
acted a little clumsily.
The band from LA only plays together for two years and had their
first hit with a song for the film 'Nightwatch.' They have already
toured with Smashing Pumpkins and have only recently released their
first album. They are clearly from the cross-over section, but some
songs, like 'What You Are' are truly pop and offer some liberties
to Keely's fine voice. Others are clearly rocksongs like the album
opener 'Look Who's Perfect Now' or even tecno-oriented, like 'Head,'
where the sequencer guides the rythm. "Noteworthy Keely cries
are famous," states the press info, "they were already
used in the 1970 horror-movie 'The haunted house of horror.'"
