I
will Receive No Bull From Your House - the Bible
T. R. Logsdon
The school has many symbols for its students. Be it the school
mascot, the beaver, or the crest found on the floor of the foyer in Hudson. However, upperclassmen have a different symbol all our own: The Rock.
Freshmen do not yet know the importance that the rock held in our minds. It was the one place students could physically show what they thought without fear of school retaliation. It was a safe place to send athletes off on away games, an advertisement place, and much more.
The Rock's home used to be the area in front of
Butler by the main entry road. But for dorm event last year, North decided to "steal the Rock." In the Middle of the night they drug the Rock halfway across campus (partly tearing up the lawn in the process).
The reason they gave - "It's the school's Rock, so it can be moved anywhere on campus by students of the school." La-de-da! So what the jocks of North are telling me - by the same logic they just gave - any student on campus right now is allowed to go into the North parlor, take their chairs, TV, games - what have you, and move them to our own respected
parlors. Its school equipment - owned by the school, we are students - there ya go! Justified. But, NO! This would be an infringement into their lives, so we can't do that!
An even further slap in the face to the campus was when judgment came round to be passed. North was to be prorated for the removal of the Rock, and replacement back to its proper home.
My, when jocks cry. Using the excuse "others, not just north guys helped", and in response, the school said - "give us names." No names were given. They did not need to be given, because the Rock was never moved back to Butler, and no prorations were given.
Now, the kicker. Remember when I told you North said "It's the campus' Rock"? Well, has anyone noticed that the Rock is still white with the red "N" for North still on it. That's because when ever someone tried to paint over it - to use it how it is supposed to be used - it would just be painted back before the paint had time to dry. School Rock is it?
This article does not come with out a motion. I move that the Rock should be moved to a neutral area where all the campus can see it, and all will equally be allowed to use it how it was first intended to be used.
This neutral spot being beside the side walk of Hudson, on the DCC side between the two trees on the lower landing. This will provide a neutral spot and allow free view by the campus. Most every one goes by Hudson at least once every other day.
Moreover, how should this be done? The school should invest in the most expensive moving company they can find. The rock should be moved, by crane if need be, into this new position, and North be prorated.
In addition, before the freshmen of the dorm get their panties in a bunch by saying "but I was not the one who moved the Rock" I have been prorated plenty of times for someone else's puke in the bathroom. Life sucks - get used to it.
