Katrina

Like many folks around Blackburn, across the United States and world, I
have been watching the continuing coverage of the aftermath of Hurricane
Katrina with great interest. The devastation has been absolutely tragic
to watch… indeed, it leaves one with a sense of gratitude and that
“There but for the grace of God go I” feeling. |

The school has many symbols for its students. Be it the school
mascot, the beaver, or the crest found on the floor of the foyer in Hudson. However, upperclassmen have a different symbol all our own: The Rock.
Freshmen do not yet know the importance that the rock held in our minds. It was the one place students could physically show what they thought without fear of school retaliation. It was a safe place to send athletes off on away games, an advertisement place, and much more. |

Darkness
Surrounds

Walking from my night class in Rahme to my dorm room in Graham Hall, I noticed the vast darkness that this campus contains. I was walking alone, and I did not feel safe.
The average student, male or female, is out and about on campus frequently in the night hours. Whether it is for night classes, organization meetings, work meetings, or work in general, most of us walk in the dark.
On my way home that night, I walked only on the college’s paved sidewalks and main roads, and yet there were still large areas of darkness. Looking around I took notice of where they were; the hillside between Olin and Stoddard, the grass between Stoddard and Hudson, the North Quad: are all poorly lit. |

The
Student Senate's Agenda
Christopher

If you were going to create a garden you would probably spend hundreds of dollars on it, not $5000.
The Student Senate thinks otherwise. Your Student Senate wishes to waste your money on a memorial garden, a garden for the deceased Senator Demuzio, and faculty and staff who have recently passed away. It is a kind gesture to the families that have lost those good people who would be honored, but I feel it is unnecessary.
Those who have passed have already being honored in the departments they once worked in. Furthermore, Senator Demuzio already has a building and a piece of a highway named after him. The garden is simply overkill. |

The people are real. The names are changed to protect the innocent...and the not so innocent.
The moon is out, and its alluring presence is stealing Jack's concentration which should be focused on his fin exam essay. As I pace the aisles of my classroom, I notice several more moons and wonder if I should engage in some
impromptu research. Count the number of moons exposed during exams and then juxtapose that number with the failing grades on the exams of my male students. Would there be a clear correlation connecting them? |
