THEODOMIRO CRUZ

To Elisinha

Fine man and of an austere habit,

The exact type that I more admire;

Like this, my friend Theodomiro:

Firm in his actions and severe.

He was not as well as Quental Antero,

But, in the rhyme, in the verse and in the poem

He knew how to compose in suave muse

In the likeness of the great Homer!...

And in everything he was a gentleman,

In his jeweler profession

He never tried to deceive somebody.

For him it was sacred the duty,

In his acts we were able to see

The austerity of an honest man.
