What is Security Information Management (SIM)? - The Story of Protego Networks (2/3/2005)

On December 20, 2004, Cisco announced the acquisition of Protego Networks, a two-year old startup in the network security information management space. What is SIM? Why is Cisco interested in SIM and the little 2-year old startup? Silicon Valley Tsinghua Network (SVTN) invites the cofounder and CEO of Protego Ms. Imin Lee to tell us the Protego story on February 3, 2005 and to answer questions about the SIM market. Space is limited to 50 people, please RSVP to reserve your space ( click here , or email to tsinghua_net@yahoo.com with subject "February 2005 event")

In August 2002, Imin Lee and colleague Partha Bhattacharya left Cisco’s network security group to start a security appliance company. With $1mm seed funding in hand, Imin and Partha hired 5 engineers including some former colleagues and friends in a small humble lab in Milpitas to start building what they believe the next generation network security information management appliance. Two years later, their little startup, Protego Networks, has developed industry's highest performance next generation security information management appliance with mitigation capability, built a team close to 40 people, raised $6.5M venture funding. Six month after launching its first product in 2004, Protego has developed channel of sales and acquired over 60 customers. Their achievement has drawn the attention of their large competitors in the network security space, including the giant Cisco that ultimately acquired Protego in December 2004.

No matter how many times we hear stories like entrepreneurs who left comfortable jobs at large companies, took the risk and eventually built successful business, it’s always refreshing to hear that from someone we know or someone we can easily relate to. Don't miss this opportunity and come to join us to learn the red-hot SIM market and how Imin and her friends did it in just two years.
