 Tennis Info

Join our wonderful tennis team this summer!  We are one of seven teams that compose the Montgomery County Junior Tennis League.  Any boy or girl age 8 to 17 can participate on the team (so long as they have not graduated from high school).  If you can serve and keep the ball in play, we would like to have you on the team!  Being a part of the team is a great way to improve your game, get great exercise, and make new friends at the club.   Playing on the tennis team is a great way to prepare for playing tennis in high school AND a great way to learn a sport that one can play and enjoy throughout life.

Lee Ingham will be coaching the tennis team again this year and is looking forward to a great season.  Lee is the boys and girls tennis team coach at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School and has coached our Twin Farms team for the past two years.

The team will start practice the first week in June.  Practices are held twice a week at our courts from 4:00-5:00 pm.   Matches begin June 23 and are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12:30pm.  All of our matches are away matches as we do not have enough courts to hold a match at Twin Farms.  Other teams in the league include:  Cedarbrook, Argyle Country Club, Flower Valley, Potomac Woods, Aspen Hill, and Norbeck Country Club.

Please come to our Sports Team Parent’s meeting on May 26th where we’ll provide you will all the tennis information for the season. We will also have a full schedule available at that time.

Tennis Team Rep

Our tennis team rep is Tina Errigo (301-384-2142 or e-mail at dtnmc@verizon.net).  If you cannot make the Sports Team Parent’s meeting, or have questions, please contact Tina.

Parents please note - Tennis team practice is no substitute for tennis lessons.  Even if your child is playing on the team, if he/she is relatively new to the sport, please consider having them participate in tennis lessons.

Tennis Camp

Twin Farms is pleased to offer their Tennis Camp again for the third year.  We have continued to hear great things from the kids about the camps run by Racel DeGuzman and Alex Power, so we are glad to be able to run them again in 2009.  We will be offering two sessions of the camp.  The timing of the camp has been changed from previous years to make it more amenable for swim team members.  The camp will be offered on the following dates:

Time:       10:30 am – 1:30 pm

Date:       Session 1 – June 22-26

                 Session 2 – July 6-10

Fee:         $90 per camper (Twin Farms members)

$120 per camper (non-members, so invite your friends)

Go to the Twin Farms website to download our pamphlet and registration form at http://www.twinfarmsclub.com/Sports_Teams.php.

Tennis Lessons

Our tennis coach, Lee Ingham, will be offering lessons for both kids and adults this summer at Twin Farms.  Details are still being finalized, but will be available once the pool opens.  Additionally, Lee will discuss lessons at our Sports Team Parent’s meeting on May 27th.

                                 Adult Tennis

Twin Farms offers an array of tennis options for its adult members, including men’s and women’s doubles, mixed doubles, and tennis socials.  Dust off the old racquet and join us!  We’ll get you back into tennis shape and you’ll get to meet other members, get some exercise, and have fun.

Men’s Evening Doubles:  Club-scheduled men’s doubles will be played on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 8 to 10 pm.  This is informal, intermediate to advanced-intermediate level, recreational tennis.  Everybody likes to win, but they also play to have fun and get some exercise.  Players change partners after each set.  We strongly encourage new players to join us.  To learn more and to sign up, contact Mike Grell, our Tennis Chair at 301-384-8325 or by e-mail at misi99@yahoo.com.

Women’s Evening Doubles:  Club-scheduled women’s doubles will be played on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7 to 9 pm.  As with the men, this is informal, intermediate to advanced-intermediate level, recreational tennis.  We strongly encourage new players to join us.  To learn more and to sign up, contact Nancy Wheeler at 301-384-6980 or by e-mail at wheelern@comcast.net.

Mixed Doubles:  Club-scheduled mixed doubles will be played on Wednesday evenings.  To sign up, look for the sign-up sheet at the court-side bulletin board or contact Mike Grell.

Advanced Singles and Doubles:  Are you an advanced player (rating 3.5 or higher) interested in competitive singles or doubles?  Contact Mike Grell and if we have enough interest, we’ll put together a schedule.

Socials:  Watch the court-side bulletin board and your e-mail for notices of tennis socials this summer.  Anyone interested in organizing a tennis social is encouraged to call Mike Grell.

Twin Farms Tennis Rules

The Twin Farms tennis courts are for the exclusive use of members and their occasional guests.  Guests must be accompanied by a member and a $3 per session fee for their use of the courts is payable at the clubhouse.  The courts are locked when not in use – please remember to lock up if you are the last one off the court.  Members may obtain a key at the pool desk or by calling the Tennis Chair, Mike Grell.  Members are encouraged to sign up in advance to reserve a court (please sign up no more than two days in advance).  The sign-up sheets are on the bulletin board next to the court gate.  We welcome your ideas for promoting and improving Twin Farms tennis.  Please contact Mike Grell.
