Freshers Information

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
2006/2007 Season
Unfortunately there is no room in the squad at the moment.
Due to a mix up with Event Horizon, Rich (Eh president) asked if any freashers
would like to play for the Physics and Astronomy Football Team. There are
currently 19 players which means there is no space for anymore.
If however you are still interested in playing for Paft please still get in
contact with Dave. On the occasions when we don't have games we have training
and a mini match at Gloucester Gate in Regents Park, please feel free to come along to any of
these sessions.
If you contact me I will added you to the mailing list and will post emails
notifying when there is training. In addition I will also let people know if
positions become available within the team if a players get injured or leave.
You can see when Paft play on the league website
www.uclgrl.tk and the most resent email sent around will be posted on the
news page. There is information bellow on Paft and newcomers.
Apologies,

Why should you join us and not UCL?
We have more fun. We are more flexible. You will feel more pride playing for us
than the UCL teams, I don't know why, that is just the case.
What standard are we?
We are quite good. It is no use mentioning other societies that we have beaten
or lost to, but generally we win the large majority of our games.
When are the trials?
There are no trials. If you want to play, you will play, newcomers of course
will have to wait their turn, but if you impress in training or as a substitute
(everybody who turns up to play gets at least 1/3 of the game), there will be no
bias in selecting the team for future games. Don't be intimidated. Most of the
present team started off as unfit or unskilled players and have progressed from
there.
When do we play?
Traditionally we are a Wednesday afternoon team, but traditionally the
Premiership is played on Saturday, things change! It is extremely rare that we
don't meet for at least training (often just as much if not more fun than an
actual match) on a Wednesday on the even rarer occasion that we don't have a
game. However, we do also have games on Saturdays or Sundays from time to time.
Don't worry if you feel you can't make every game, join the team anyway.
Where do we play?
Regents Park
Who do we play?
A typical opponent for us would be another department or society from UCL.
Why do we play?
The team was formed for people that just wanted to have a kick-around, but with
actual opponents and arranged fixtures. Don't be put off by the constant
references to training etc... We do have fun, if we didn't, the team would fall
apart! Though as time has gone we have progressed into a fitter and more serious
team, but without losing the traditions that we have, it is a good thing to be
part of all round. You can take the team as seriously as you like, if you attend
all of the gatherings and put in enough effort you are going to get the most out
of the team however, though if you just want to play football every now and
then, that's fine as well.
What do we play in?
We have a blue and white kit, which will cost you between 20 and 25 pounds
depending on numbers, you are not obliged to buy the kit (shirt, shorts, socks),
but if you become a regular to the team you will eventually be expected to, it
is a nice way to remember what will hopefully be an enjoyable part to your
university life.
When should you join?
Whenever you like, subject to availability in the squad.
How do you join?
Since you are here now, the easiest way to join is to email me and I will add
you to the mailing list and that's it you're in!
