DM Teamplay

There are many great DM single players on the zone... however not as many good teams! As an individual, 1v1 is a lot easier to play as there are less things to consider! Your enemy is in front of you, its you vs him/her, manage your own economy, take the map where you think is best, grab gold for yourself and throw everything you have in attempt to beat your opponent. Although in anything other than 1v1... 2v2 3v3 4v4 is all about teamplay. Good teamplay, wins games over another team who haven't got a good understanding of what is happening!

Here are some rules that might help you become a better team player:

1) Communication

the most vital part of teamplay. Humans can't watch everything and remember everything, even the best of us get confused in the heat of battle! Keeping your allies updated on whats going on in the battlefield is key to victory. The beacon is also a very useful tool use it to signal raids, enemy raids, approaching trouble, where you need units and to tell your allies where you have placed your markets .etc. That way everyone knows what's happening and makes it easier to remember your economy, continuing building units and other tasks... rather then mindlessly scrolling around pulling your hair out screaming ' what is this guy on? '

2) Markets

place them early and make your ally aware of them... this way even if you don't intend to start trading early your ally might! A continuous flow of gold is what keeps team games going! Usually the team who keeps their trade intact and strongest wins the game, so trading should start at the latest 10-15mins into the game!

3) Tributing Resources

constantly check if your ally needs extra resources. Especially if your at pop limit there is no need for your excess wood, food, gold to sit there! Wow ' i have 10k gold! '... ' nice im getting raped what you going to do about it? ' This is also a good idea to say tribute resources you don't need at the beginning as every civilisation has a preference! For example a mongols/persian team can produce more of their strong units by giving each other say 6000 wood (mongol) and 6000 food (persians) early.

4) Walls

- these become very important as you try and keep your trade and economy protected! Make sure you wall up key areas like by your markets and in the middle so that your not as succeptable to raids! Also, vice versa try and co-ordinate with your partner(s) constant raids on your enemies economy and trade which will give you a big edge in the ongoing battle!

5) Helping Teammates

you can help each other out in many different ways. Providing extra units to help in battle, tributing resources and making sure they are aware of what is happening! One rule I try to remember is ' if it needs attention beacon the damn thing! ' If a ally is being doubled sometimes it is best to go for the opponents base so that you can take advantage! However sending each form of help is decided on what you think is more helpful! Even just placing a few siege workshops and helping out with a few siege onagers, whatever can help give your team the edge!

6) Reinforcements

try and place key military buildings in key areas of the map so you can reinforce your army quicker so you don't lose any ground!

7) Aggression

As in all aspects of AOC, being the more aggressive player puts the enemy on defensive! Try and take advantage of this and keep your opponents on their toes! If things go quiet, arrange to double or go all out on their economy! Hit from all sides, continuous raids and harrassment will break them if they are unorganised! If you are up against a civ that has a unit you can't counter easily try and trade a group of units with a teammate so you can put the pressure on in the battle! For example, if your up against celts and have no siege onagers or paladins and your ally needs champs for halbs, send each other the correct unit so you can keep pushing!

Timing is everything along with some of these guidelines you can be a force to reckon with in team games! Implementing them all and other tactics is the hard part!
