The Union of Journalists of the Philippines-University of the Philippines Diliman (UJP-UP) is an academic, socio-political union of students based in the UP College of Mass Communication.
The organization is committed in advancing pro-masses and pro-student ideals. Also, the union seeks to promote advocacy journalism and media ethics.
Founded in 1988, UJP-UP is the official student arm of the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP), a guild of media workers recognized throughout Asia.
UJP-UP believes that journalism is public trust. People deserve accurate and comprehensive information on salient national and local issues, which that will empower them to make sound opinions and decisions.
The union believes that journalism students must prepare for that role--to inform the public, especially the masses who are marginalized by an oppressive socio-political system.
In its almost seventeen years of successful existence, UJP-UP has sponsored symposia, seminars, writing workshops, film showings, educational discussions and basic masses exposure trips, all in the effort to help advance the level of skills of its members.
