18 Arc of Heaven Siamsa Tire Tralee August 1998

An installation in the Round Gallery of Siamsa Tire, which was about losing Paradise, in seeking Heaven. The work consisted of a series of arcs of stars suspended beneath the window in the centre of the cone of the Round Gallery. Fountains made from ceramics and wood, were placed around the gallery, with mirrors above each. Light streamed down through star shapes, cut in a screen placed across the window overhead the installation and the light from these would flow along the walls as the sun moved across the sky, connecting these star shapes to the ones of the artwork reflected in the mirrors. The bridge at Mostar, Stari Most, and the National Library in Sarajevo, were called to mind, as were the people who once used to walk over the bridge or who visited and spoke under the dome of the library. This took place as a result of an award given by Dr Dorothy Walker, Art Historian and Commentator and the Adjudicator of Scoip '97. Preparations were assisted by The staff of Siamsa Tire, with financial support coming from The Arts Council and Kerry and Limerick County Council and The Arts Officer of County Limerick. The exhibition was officiated at by Noelle Campbell Sharpe, with speechs also by The Mayor of Limerick 1999-2000 Joe Harrington, Alderman Jan O'sullivan T.D. Historian Dr Dorothy Walker, and by the Siamsa Tire Gallery Director and a representative of Kerry County Council.
