- GAMMA Rush - FALL 2004 - Rush Information A Sorority Is... Many college women seek something more than classes and casual friends. Sorority membership, which begins as a part of college life, provides a lifetime of learning and involvement. Sororities are sisterhood organizations with chapters at accredited colleges and universities. As extended family units, sororities offer warm, caring atmospheres which encourage individual development. Sororities promote sound scholarship, leadership ability, community outreach and life-long friendships. Sorority life will help you make the most of your college experience as you join together with women who share your interests and ideals. What is Rush? Rush offers a perfect opportunity to explore all groups on campus and become well acquainted with all groups before determining which one is best for you. alpha Kappa Delta Phi Rush is a fun-filled week of scheduled activities designed for YOU, the rushee, to learn more about aKDF. It is a great opportunity to meet new people and make new friends. There is no obligation in joining, but the sisters of aKDF welcome anyone to participate in our rush week full of food, games and entertainment. Does rushing mean that I have committed to joining KDPhi? Absolutely not. Pledging a sorority is an important decision for both interested participants and the sisters of aKDPhi. Rushing is a non-commital period of time when you can learn more information about aKDPhi and we learn about you. We hope to see rushees attend as many rush events during the week as possible; through these various events, we hope you will have a chance to meet all of us and decide whether aKDPhi is something you wish to join. Why would I want to join aKDPhi? aKDPhi means something slightly different to each of us, but as such a multifaceted organization composed of diverse individuals, this should be no surprise. We always strive to remain active in our sisterhood, service, and social events. With 37 chapters nationwide, alpha Kappa Delta Phi is the largest Asian American interest sorority, providing a network that spans from coast to coast, connected by common goals, experiences, and traditions. We support our sister chapters at their events as they support us. Besides our sisterhood with aKDPhi at other schools, the relationship we have with each other within our chapter is held most dear to our hearts. Sisterhood alpha Kappa Delta Phi is founded on the ideal of sisterhood. It is often said that in college, friendships are developed that will last a lifetime. We consider every single member of alpha Kappa Delta Phi a "sister." A sister is someone who you can share your hopes, dreams and fears with. A sister will listen and give you the support you need in good times and in bad. The sisterhood of alpha Kappa Delta Phi is unique. Each sister is different yet special in all our hearts. We encourage you to experience the sisterhood of alpha Kappa Delta Phi, a sisterhood like no other. Academics alpha Kappa Delta Phi provides a great network of support for academic endeavors and recognizes excellence of our own sisters with rewards and scholarships. We strongly emphasize academics within the sorority. Our educational experience is important so we encourage each sister to work hard. Service One of the most gratifying aspects of sorority membership is the sense of pride that comes with involvement in community service. As a sorority, alpha Kappa Delta Phi strives to further Asian American awareness and aid the Asian American community and other communities through service projects, volunteer work and charity fundraising. alpha Kappa Delta Phi's chosen national philanthropy is breast cancer awareness. Each semester promises to include new and exciting service events which will benefit the sorority and community. Leadership alpha Kappa Delta Phi is dedicated to building future leaders. Sorority members are some of the most active and visible student leaders within the sorority, the campus and the community. Members develop valuable leadership skills through sorority activities and opportunities that will help them in their chosen careers. The Social Side of aKDF A big part of the college experience is sharing good times with friends, new and old. alpha Kappa Delta Phi provides ample opportunities to meet and interact with people from university campuses all over the nation. From social exchanges, retreats, formals and road trips, the sisters of aKDF share many memorable moments.
