WELCOME to umpyboop's Betty Boop collection
Betty Boop was born in 1930

Betty's character idea was born in 1930 , designed to favor the  style of  Mae West,
an actress and singer that was very popular in the 20's and 30's
for her sultry and almost comical sex appeal;.
and from a cute little singer affectionately known as
the
"boop~boopie~doop" girl, Helen Kane.

The character was drawn by an artist of the
Fleisher Studios
named
Grim Natwick, who originally drew Boop as a girlfriend for the Talkartoon
dog character named
Bimbo. Looking more like a human, than a dog,
Betty soon became popular as a human cartoon character and lost the
"doggy" image as well as dog ears. She was already "leggy" with high heels
and wearing a dress, making the transformation a rather simple process.

Her first character appeared in a 1930 animation titled
"Dizzy Dishes".
As a human, Betty made her debut appearance  in 1931
in her first human character role titled
"Kitty from Kansas CIty"

She was NOT born as the babe above.
and the character has changed slightly over the years.
