THE EXORCIST
One comes to see the exorcist with tons of expectations. A person who knows little about horror movies and real life exorcism (say for example, some one who hates scary movies) probably expects to see blasphemy, violence, and all the grotesque stuff he/she thinks they usually see in horror movies. But this is something differant. This is a fright film comparable to The Godfather.
Although everyone knows the basic plot: a little girl possessed by the devil who vomits pea soup alot, this movie has much more to offer, even a religious experience.
Although hundreds of people will argue with me, The Exorcist, in its intent, is a religious film. I think it says that evil exists in the universe, but there is a power of good that always defeats it. This represents morals and values of every religion: good and evil against each other, but good always wins. This symbolism is not satanic worship, satanism would be to say that this film says that evil conquers good. Not true, according to what happens in this film.
However, you bring to this film what you leave with: your own morals. You see, a satanist might come to this film and say, "Yup, there's that old devil. We should all throw up pea soup now and do that disgusting stuff Linda Blair does." But a Christen/Jew/any other non cultist might say, "Although there is evil in the universe, there is always a power of good. And good always overcomes that evil."
I give this film 7 out of 4 stars. Why the bonus? The 3 bonus points come from the fact that this film is better than 4 out of 4 stars. If I was a teacher, for example, and this film was a project done by the student, it would a 105% meaning an A+.
