| They were warned... they are doomed. And on Friday the 13th, nothing will save them. |

| What is all this about this film being a rip off of Halloween? This film just set the standard for the later slasher craze of the 1980's which led up to the film Scream in the 1996, which attempted to be horror while simaltaneosly a spoof of the slasher films. This film set also created the summer camp sub genre where a bunch of kids or counselers or both encounter death and evil at a summer camp. Oddly in of, Jason, the famous hocky masked killer of the series, didn't pop up until the second one and his mask in the third, stolen off one of his victims. The acting, however, well... Let's just say that these guys haven't heard of acting lessons. The body count is extremely large in these flicks, although gore lovers will this one boring. So, what does this film have? The best scary sequences out of a large crop of movies. The films were original for slasher : a strange curse, a killer out for revenge, and a deformed monster back from the dead. Very spooky, very scary, very much a fun movie. I would not recommend this for a lot of people, though. Some people can't even take Halloween. Some people can't even stand in the horror section without feeling disturbed and revolted. So, this film is not for everyone. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| THE PLOT: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Basicly, all the ones after the first, are all alike. I'll get to them later. The first one centers on a group of counselers getting stalked and killed by an unknown killer. I won't ruin who it is, but it's not Jason Vorhees, although he is on screen for a couple of minutes toward the end. And he doesn't come into play the way you probably think he does. Although predictable, it was very good and comparable to Evil Dead, except a lot less gory. The death scenes were creative and very well done, the suspense is done right and it comes at you when you think it isn't going to, and when you think it is. The sequels all center on Jason Vorhees and the different people he stalks. After a while it becomes the same thing over and over but all in all they pretty much seperate each other out by introducing new and original death scenes and suspense scenes - the stuff these movies are made of. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| One last interesting tidbit. It was banned in Finland. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| I rate this series 2 out of 4 stars because it had horrid acting and kept repeating itself. I don't wish to turn people off, it's an excellent film that people have neglected, but from reviewing it with cinematography, acting, editing, lighting, and cliches in mind, I have to rate it poorly. Now, as a horror fan and a devoted person to the genre, I have to give it 4 stars for being one of the better of the sub genre in the 1980's. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Please don't make another sequel! God, this series is repetitive although it is better than that Lucio Fulci gorefest garbage! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
