Psycho
Alfred Hitchcock was one of the greatest directors who ever lived. He used not one ounce of gore and created fear in the best states. His scariest film - Psycho - has been imitated by almost every horror film since then. It was this great film that started up the entire slasher sub genre. I dedicate this review to this great film. If only today's horror directors would use this kind of excellent stuff in their movies. Today's movies are too often filled with gore. This film, has not once ounce. The gothic atmosphere and great acting beats most imitations (sorry Wes Craven and John Carpenter) and it still lives up there in the greatest of film history along with Silence of the Lambs, the Exorcist, and The Godfather, atleast in my opinion. The movie depends largely on atmosphere but does not completely depend on atmosphere like the Haunting did. The visuals are dark, just like in Night of the Living Dead. Watch this film, and learn. Although today's movie audiences may not care for this film, it is excellent for the time that it was made and a must see for movie buffs and classic horror movies. Interestingly enough, it is a lot more effective than The Blair Witch Project, as far as mystery elements and horror combined go. It has one heck of a spooky house and has the famouse shower scene that even From Dusk Till Dawn 2 ripped off.
I give this film four stars. |
