NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET!

THE SCAPE GOAT
by Nosferatu

Slashers have long endured over critics and comments made about their content. They have always been there, a faint reminder of the urban terrors of our world and the dangers of isolation. Tons of them originate in urban legends while others in the fear that someone out their is stalking us, that some unthinking  murderous force is just beyond what we can see, and that this force kills and kills for no apparent reason. On this level, we have great directors like Wes Craven and John Carpenter whose great life achievments have been slashers. For us to look beyond the slaughter is difficult but if we do, we see more. We see the fears of society expressed, we see human emotion, we see poetry meant to enhance our fun rather than do what we most frequently blame these films on. It's plain stupid to suspect the columbine high school shootings on horror movies. Movies are not always the place that find out about things and get ideas from. I do agree that a physcotic should not watch a movie like this. But a person who understands life and right and wrong should be able to watch this stuff. It is insulting to the audience's intelligence that the movies may turn us into the demented freaks we see on the screen. I say, go pick on Lucio Fulci if you want a scape goat. Go pick on the movies that have no reason and are made to be gory instead of scary. Also, I don't see whats so wrong with the slashers movies. Their fun, entertaining and so forth. They are made to be scary and if violence is how they achieve that, so be it. After I saw Scream, I had no intention of going around slaughtering with a knife. And after I saw Nightmare on Elm Street, I had no intention of going out and tying knives to my fingers. So, to all you who use some of the greatest movies ever made as scape goats, STOP IT RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!

Hundreds of assorted killers have stalked us at the movies, all of them were things that most likely will never happen. So, why is it that people use scary movies as a scape goat? Because they don't understand how a person would want to be scared. They themselves dislike scary movies. These are monsters of Hollywood. Noone blames Hitchcock for any murders in real life. Yet he invented the slasher sub genre with PYSCHO.

Modern day slasher share similar elements but have much more gore.

An example of this increase in gore is when in SCREAM Datim is killed by being crushed in a garage door as it is lifting off the ground. In PSYCHO, the death scenes are short and show barely anything. In the famous shower scene, all the blood we see is going down the drain.
