“Do You Know...”

Mahakashyapa, one of Buddha's disciples, is now in samadhi in China at Chi Tzu Mountain in Yunnan Province. He hasn't died or gone off to rebirth. He is in the samadhi of extinction, and in the future, when Maitreya Bodhisattva appears in the world, Mahakashyapa will present him with the robe and bowl of Shakyamuni Buddha. He has been in samadhi now for some three thousand years, but one can sit for thousands, or even tens of thousands of years, in that samadhi without any problem.
