July 23, 1944 - Syracuse Herald Journal (NY) 1st Division Marines Back From Pacific Many Syracuse and Central NY Boys Share the Bravery Citation.At least two of the Marines have Australian brides. Sgt. Volan is one, Pfc. Gordon C. Strine, 24, son of Mrs. Marie Olney, 241 Fitch Street, the other. The latter was married to a singer in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia. Both young men hope to bring their brides to Syracuse in the near future. |
