War Bride, 16, Will Seek Annulment
BLISS (UP) -- Petite 16-Year-old Evelyn Poston, British war bride who deserted her husband’s North Carolina farm home because “he deceived me,” today declared she wants an annulment of her marriage as soon as possible.
“He deceived me when he said we would have a home of our own,” said the brown-eyed English girl as she insisted that she “never wants to see him again.” She said she hadn’t heard from him since he telephoned her in New York asking her to come back to him in Salisbury, N.C.
“I’m going to try to get my marriage annulled because I’m under age,” she said. “My husband deceived me once and I’m afraid he would do it again.”
She admitted that she had left her husband, Warren Poston, only 30 hours after her arrival in Salisbury from England. “But I don’t want to go back to England – at least for a couple of years,” she added.
Evelyn C Poston arrived onboard M.S. John Ericsson on March 30, 1946.
