While the Eastern part of the Canyon's South rim is (still) accessible by private vehicles, the Western part can only be visited by bus. Apart from the Rim drive that takes you to several viewpoints along East rim, there are several hiking trails to explore both the surrounding area as well as the actual canyon.

There are also various guided tours available to go down into the canyon. Warning: Be aware that temperatures on the canyon's ground are considerably higher than up on the rim. Be sure to be adequately equipped and carry plenty of drinking water. It's strongly recommended not to descent into canyon on your own but rather join a guided tour.

To visit the West Rim, you have to stand in line in order to get on the free shuttle bus as this section of the park is closed to private vehicles. The busses run on a 10 minutes interval which makes it easy to spend some time at each of the view points and then simply get on the next arriving bus to continue the trip. Of course, the viewpoints can also be reached by the rim hiking trail.

Several operators provide scenic air tours both by airplane and by helicopter. All of these tours depart from the Grand Canyon airport just outside the Southern park entry station.
