The Tunstall - McSween store was built in 1872 to challenge Lawrence G. Murphy's trade monopoly. Alexander McSween was murdered during the Five-day battle that began on July 14, 1878 and ended with McSween's home being burned to the ground. The lot, right next to the store, is still vacant.
