Valley of Fire is Nevada's oldest and largest state park. The valley derives its name from the red sandstone formations and the stark beauty of the Mojave Desert. Ancient trees and early man are represented throughout the park by areas of petrified wood and 3,000-year-old Indian petroglyphs. Directions Valley of Fire State Park is located in the Mojave Desert of southern Nevada about 50 miles (80 km) northeast of Las Vegas. Turn off Interstate 15 at exit 75.

Valley of Fire is a great day trip from Las Vegas. It's only about an hour's drive from the town, and all attractions can easily be accessed. For those who wish to leave the paved roads, there are many hiking trails taking you to the more remote areas of the park.
