WORDS TO LIVE BY

Lacrosse is a contact sport. If you aren't willing to pay the physical price, play tennis or golf.

Show respect for the game, your team, your opponents and yourself. Act like you've scored before, knocked someone down before, made a save before, and made a mistake before.

Everyone makes mistakes. Don't get down on yourself. Take responsibility for it. Learn from it but don't make the same mistake twice.

Lead by example. Give credit and accept blame.

Play within yourself during games. Expand your game on your own time or during individual work at practice.

Stats and percentages are irrelevant - focus on your effort in practice. Winning is the byproduct of hard work.

Don't make half a great play. Avoid saying "Good play, bad play." Strive for consistency. Finish each play.

Eliminate unforced errors. Focus on the simple things like scooping with two hands, passing and shooting overhand. Don't try to pull moves in a game that you have never practiced.

Make the correct turn after scooping up ground balls. Always turn toward your bottom hand.

Notice offense uses straight lines, defense uses angels.

TEAM

Lacrosse is a TEAM game.

Never ambush your team. Never discuss the process to outsiders. What goes on, on the field stays on the field.

Understand the and embrace the team mission. Its the coach's job to set the goals. It is the players job to play a winning game.

Play your position. Know your role.

OFFENSE

Move the ball, move your feet. Lacrosse is a running game.

GET IN SHAPE!

Play your man - move, cut, make him cover you. Work him.

Always catch and square to the goal or catch the ball already squared to the goal.

Shoot to the back of the net. Finish with authority.

Improve your angle when shooting in tight. Always move your stick when shooting on the crease.

Don't drop the head of your stick when faking the goalie.

Take 100 shots in practice for everyone you take in the game.

Talk on offense.

Curl away from double teams.

When you see the back of an opponent's helmet, CUT!

Play to your strengths.

React on the first part of the whistle.

Restarts - sprint to your spot - always see the ball. Anticipate the next play.

DEFENSE

Defense is played with your feet, not your stick.

Never get beat topside.

Force your man to the corners.

When you slide - go to where your man will be not where he is.

Be physical and violent when necessary. Check hard and hit harder.

Clear the crease. Let your goalie get the ball.

When you are off ball listen to your goalie and avoid ball watching.

GOALIE

Be ready for every shot.

Make the routine saves and never turn the ball over in your own end.

Take away the near pipe.

Make one miracle save per day.

Talk to your defense, make them better through communication.

Never show your opponents weakness or vulnerability. Maintain your composure. The next shot counts, not the previous one. Be prepared.

If you give up bad goals in practice you give up bad goals in games.
