USS Courage NCC 74588-C Posting Guide

Well, if you're reading this, then either you want to see how we post here on the Courage, or you're new to RPG's. Then again, it could just be a mix of both

The key to any good post is to first know any backstory or a little history of the post or character you're posting with. After all, it wouldn't be good if you asked a character about a previous illness or battle, only to find out that said character has no idea what you're talking about, would it?

So, let’s start off with the basics, shall we? First of all, you need to decide whether or not you are making a new post, or replying to a post. If you’re making a new post, then you just need an idea for it. And, I’m sorry to say, that is where we can’t help, since it is your post.

To begin with, here is a sample post, and we’ll break it down for you:

Meeting with a friend

Lt. Alex Greystone

Chief Engineer

USS Courage NCC 74588 B

Alex sat in his quarters, and looked at the drink on the table in front of him. Normally, he would be drinking Scotch when he was depressed, or upset, or even annoyed, but luckily, he was neither. A cold glass of orange juice sat in front of him.

He took a sip, and smiled as he heard the chime of the door “Enter” Alex said. The doors parted to reveal his dear friend, Savok, who walked in, and looked at Alex.

Tag Savok.

Ok, first thing’s first, the title. Now, when you go to post, you will be asked for a subject. All yahoo groups need a subject for posts. The subject should always be your title, so, in this case, the title would be “Meeting with a friend”.

The next stage is the in post title and signature. Now this should show the post title, your character name, position on the ship, and which ship you are on. Simple really. There are two ships in this sim, one is the Courage, and the other is the USS Bradbury, our SPC Sister ship.

Next is the content of the post. Please remember that this is a PG 13 sim. Of course, there are times when posts will require some, shall we say, graphic descriptions. However, this is only to be done IF, and we mean IF, the CO allows it. You’ll need to speak with him about it first, and explain the circumstances.

Finally, if you want a response to your post, add a Tag at the end. You have two choices. You can have anyone choose to respond, in which case, you leave “Tag any”, or you can have a specific character, such as Savok, respond, in which case, the end will show “Tag Savok”, or whomever you want to respond.

Easy, yes? Now comes the fun part, replying to a post. When reply, remember, you don’t need to show the whole of the post you are replying to, just a part of it. Here is a reply post to the one shown above.

A toast to good health

Captain Savok

First Officer

USS Courage NCC 74588 B

OLD

He took a sip, and smiled as he heard the chime of the door “Enter” Alex said. The doors parted to reveal his dear friend, Savok, who walked in, and looked at Alex.

NEW

Savok surveyed his friend, who looked calmer than he had done for a while “Thought ye might like a little company, AJ” Savok said, with a small nod

Tag Greystone

“I’ll have whatever ye be having, lad” Savok replied

Tag Greystone

Savok sat down, and lifted the glass slightly “Let’s start with a toast to yer good health, shall we?” Savok suggested

Tag Greystone

Now, as you can see, the post’s title has changed. Since it is a new post, it needs a new title, again, something to do with the post. Then comes the starting signature. Same rules apply as before.

You’ll notice the words OLD and NEW. That is done so that the other players know which is part of a previous post, and which is part of a new post. For snips from previous posts, you need to place OLD. When you start a new paragraph, before the paragraph, put New, just like that one.

With reply tags, for specific characters, you should always place a character’s last name, because multiple characters may share the same first name.

Now, then comes the next reply, and so on and so fourth. One more sample post, a reply, and you can see what happens from there.

Sharing the thoughts

Lt. Alex Greystone

Chief Engineer

USS Courage NCC 74588 B

OLD

He took a sip, and smiled as he heard the chime of the door “Enter” Alex said. The doors parted to reveal his dear friend, Savok, who walked in, and looked at Alex.

Savok surveyed his friend, who looked calmer than he had done for a while “Thought ye might like a little company, AJ” Savok said, with a small nod

NEW

“That’d be nice, thank you” Alex replied “Can I get you a drink?”

OLD

“I’ll have whatever ye be having, lad” Savok replied

NEW

Alex nodded, and stood up. He went to the replicator, and replicated another cold glass of juice for his friend. Passing it to Savok, he sat down again “So, what shall we talk about?” Alex asked

OLD

Savok sat down, and lifted the glass slightly “Let’s start with a toast to yer good health, shall we?” Savok suggested

NEW

"I’ll drink to that” Alex agreed, taking a sip of the drink “And I’m doing good, before you ask” he added, smiling

Tag Savok

“Oh, you know what it’s like, training the newbie’s, making sure they don’t break anything” Alex said, with a small laugh

Tag Savok

“The new guy hasn’t crashed us yet, so it’s a start. Of course, if he did do that, I’d have to kill him” Alex said

Tag Savok

Now, this is just the same as before. This can go on for as long as needed, but when you feel that you’ve finished the conversation, or whatever, you should close with something like this:

Alex finished his drink and smiled “Thanks for the chat, but I have to get back. I’m afraid they’ll destroy the place if I’m gone too long”

Tag Savok

“Let’s do this again sometime soon” Alex replied. He stood up with Savok, and the two of them headed out “Just don’t let that new helm guy crash the ship. You know how long it took us to repair the ship last time” Alex said

Tag Savok

Alex smiled, and headed off towards engineering.

Then Savok would reply, and the post would end. It’s as simple as that. If you have any more questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
