Argelius-Kal
Non-Player Character
Position: Chief Science Officer
Rank: Lieutenant Commander

Race: Trill (Joined)
Age: 30
Gender: Male
Place of Birth: Trill
Character
Appearance:
Tall and gaunt. Argelius-Kal has the typical Trill spots but also very pale skin. His black hair is worn long, often tied back.
Character
Personality:
Dry humoured and Sarcastic, Argelius is both very intelligent, yet also rebellious (especially when Jalk Orin is around). Argelius is very quick witted and spends most of his time trying to either get Jalk's modifications to work properly or repairing/covering up the damage they have done.
Character
History:

Born on Trill, Argelius had twin dreams of joining Starfleet in the field of science and also wished to be joined. At the age of 18, both dreams became true, for he got a letter of acceptance to be joined to the symbiont Kal and was admitted into Starfleet Academy.

From that point forth, Argelius-Kal's life changed dramatically. Whether this is the influence of the symbiont or his befriending of a fellow cadet by the name of Jalk Orin, is unknown. Gone though was the dedicated scientist and starfleet potential and in came the rebellious Argelius-Kal who with Jalk Orin spent more time performing unorthodox scientific experiments than doing their proper academy work.

Hitting their final year into the course and both Kal and Jalk realised that they were not going to pass their exams unless some drastic action was taken. Instead of knuckling down and studying the course material however, the two of them developed a special device with which information could be directly fed into their brains within seconds. After several failed attempts (conducted on other cadets they would get drunk), one week before the actual exams, the device actually worked.

Again, for reasons not quite known, it worked better with Kal than it did with Jalk. Though both Cadets passed their exams, Kal passed his exams with such high grades and commendations that Starfleet allowed him to by pass the rank of Ensign and made him straight upto a Lieutenant (jg). It was a pity the information learnt seem to have faded from their minds within a few weeks of taking the exam.

The duo, now near inseperable, were posted together onboard the USS Victory. Here, they formed a part of a special expeditionary science team using their own shuttle craft (the Shuttlecraft Cook) with several other officers. Once again, their attention was limited to more unorthodox experiments and several formal and informal disciplinaries were given to both Kal an Jalk for various reasons including things ranging from turning all the water produced in the shuttlecrafts replicators to vodka to trying to turn the shuttlecraft micro warp core into a buffering device for the phasers and leaving the shuttlecraft stranded for ten days until the Victory could come and pick them up.

Despite the odds, one fateful day in 2375, the USS Victory ended up being nearly destroyed and it was only because of the actions of the Shuttlecraft Cook (which was on the way back to the ship at the time) was the ship averted from being destroyed. The whole team of the shuttlecraft were promoted (including Kal and Jalk for they were recognised to have helped with the saving of the Victory) and given their own ship, the USS Calypso.

Argelius-Kal was made Chief Science Officer onboard the Calypso and now seperated from Jalk (who went off to work at the Utopia Plantia Shipyards), Kal started to loose some of that rebellious streak and got to work learning the ropes properly.

Several years of exemplary service went by, but Kal realised that something had now gone from his life. He had lost that fun edge that he had back onboard the Cook and at the Academy and no matter how he tried, he couldn't quite bring it back. And then in 2378, Argelius-Kal was invited to join the Vanquish project along with a promotion. Reviewing what the Vanquish project was about, Kal jumped at the chance. And considering the nature of the USS Vanqish, it was came as no surprise to Kal that Jalk was also working on the same project.

A recipe for disaster now the pair were working together again? Too damn right. Though leading the way in breaking through new technologies and sciences with the Vanquish, the pair started getting back up to their usual tricks, though no one seems to have realised yet that these two were responsible for half the experimental problems onboard the ship.

When the Vanquish was launched, Starfleet wanted to have some Starfleet science officers onboard who knew about the experimental systems and were capable of looking for new experimental ideas and methods. For some reason, Starfleet thought that Kal and Jalk were that logical choice....
