The following positions are open for player characters at the current time. If you are interrested in creating a character to fill any of these rolls, than please follow the instructions given after these vacancy adverts.

First Officer

Description: The First Officer, otherwise known as Number One or the Executive Officer (XO) serves as the ships second in command, reporting directly to the Captain. It is the first officers job to ensure that everything on the ship runs smoothly, checking the department heads activity etc... If something happens on the ship, it is the First Officers job to know about and let the Captain know.

In addition to in character requirements, the position of First Officer also carries some out of character duties along with it. The First Officer is expected to be dedicated to the game by encouraging other players to sim, promoting the game and the website etc...

Experience Required: Previous PBeM / Sim experience essential. preferably at command level, though those who have shown dedication in previous sims will also be considered. Reference may be sought.

Second Officer

Description: The role of second officer is as a back up to the Captain and the First Officer of the ship. This becomes particularly important considering the USS Vanquish ability to enter split flight mode. The Second Officer would often in these cases fill the roll of second in command to either the First Officer or the Captain on either of the USS Vanquish two hull's or end up commanding one of the hulls themselves.

Experience Required: Some previous PBeM / Sim experience preffered.

Chief of Operations

Description: The Operations department is responsible for over seeing the day to day runnings of the ship, scheduling tasks and jobs to be done through out the vessel and monitoring the local area. During battle, the Operations officer often works the sensors and monitors the ships own performance, reporting injuries and damage done to the ship etc... The Chief of Operations runs this very busy department, ensuring that his team work to their best performance.

Experience Required: Any

Secondary Chief Engineer

Description: The Secondary Chief Engineer works under the Chief Engineer themselves, taking command of engineering on the secondary hull during any time the ship finds itself having to divide for any purpose during it's missions.

Lower Decking

There is a mixture of opinions regarding allowing people to take second characters or not onboard the same ship. The Pros and Cons are expansive at best and not worth going into. Onboard the USS Vanquish though, we have our own solution to this situation called Lower Decking.

Lower Decking allows people to play a second character onboard the USS Vanquish, but there are slight changes to the rules for Lower Deck characters as noted below. The idea is based upon ideas thrown up from episodes like the TNG episode: Lower Decks as well as other sci-fi series (I believe Babylon 5 did the same once with two maintenance crew), in that the lives of the lesser ranking people are also looked at. The worries and concerns of these are usually far different from that of the senior crew. The rules for a lower deck character are as follows.

1: You may only take a Lower Deck character if you already have another character onboard ship.

2: The Lower Deck character can be of a rank of no more than Ensign or a Non-Commisioned Officer.

3: Lower Deck characters should make at least one post once a month. You can do more if you wish. Also, a person's Lower Deck character can not have more posts than a persons main character.

4: People writing Lower Deck Characters should remember that the concerns of such said character are very different than the main characters. These are the guys who carry out the orders, not make them. To them, the main characters (the senior crew) are their bosses and in a league of their own. Many look up to these people with admiration (or any other number of emotions).

5: Lower Deck Characters are the unsung heroes of the day. What this means is that the Lower Deck Character are not the ones who go out there and make a hero of themselves. Instead, they may be a part of the team that help sort things out, but it is often a privilege if their department head notices their skill, never mind the Captain or Starfleet command.

6: You apply for Lower Deck characters the same way you apply for a main character. The Captain reserves the right to decide whether to allow you to play a lower deck character or not and may ask that you spend a bit more time as your main character to prove that you are capable of handling two characters at the same time. Fill out the form above with Lower Deck character written in the other information box.

Thanks to Dee (Lieutenant K'ohl Troi) for the inspiration for this idea.
