Born and raised in London, Earth, John was one of three children. His older sister is six years his senior as soon as she was old enough, moved out to join Starfleet as a security officer. His younger brother is now just in the last years of school, though it looks like he is following his brothers example of missing school when ever he can.
John himself barely scraped through school, avoiding to go out doing young reckless and rebellious teenager things. However, deep down, he always had an interrest in Engineering and his passes only just got him the London School of Engineering when he was sixteen. There he continued to live the same life style as before, though he did spend a bit more time studying his required course.
At the age of 18, John once again managed to scrape a pass in his subjects and met the bare minimum entry levels to join Starfleet as an officer. He shipped off to Starfleet Academy where he was given a bit of a sharp wake up call to the reality of the world. His records indicate that within the first two years of academy, he had several warnings about missing lessons and inappropriate behaviour inside and out of the Academy. It was just as he was about to booted from the Academy that he suddenly realised what he needed to do and has spent the last two years applying himself to passing.
Upon successful graduation from the Academy, John was given a post onboard the USS Vanquish.
