Character
Personality:
Though Jalk could be considered a genius, he often hides this behind what could almost be said to be stupidity. Forgetful at times, Jalk loves nothing better than to tinker with anything and everything he can lay his hands upon.
Character
History:

Jalk's mother was at the time of his birth a Starfleet Captain who was half human and half betazoid. Her vessel was ordered to make contact and deal with Bajoran resistance groups in a special shadow operation where by she ended up falling for a Bajoran Resistance Fighter leader. Jalk was concieved from their union and born onboard the USS Southampton, Jalk's mother's vessel.

Raised with his mother (with the occasional side trip to Bajor), Jalk could be found to be spending most of his time loitering around the science department and engineering. While his mother served on several ships, they had problems because Jalk was a disruptive child who loved to tinker with things he was not supposed to. Before the age of 13, Jalk had managed to cause no less than five complete malfunctions of Starships. Unable to cope with her rebellous child on a Starship, his mother finally decided to take a post on a Starbase as a Commodore, hoping Jalk would find less things to wreck there.

She was wrong. Eighteen times in the space of five years, Jalk had managed to knock life support off line on the Starbase, never mind all the other mishaps he managed and though Jalk excelled at his sciences, he would rarely be found in school. By the time he had hit the age of 18, Jalk had started to move onto bigger and larger things, completely rewiring shuttle crafts from the frame up with new experimental technology. His mother was at a loss as what to do with her awol son and decided to send him of to the Academy to see if they could do anything with him.

It was while at the Academy that Jalk met another cadet called Argelius-Kal. The two struck up and immediate friendship, one which got the two of them constantly in trouble as they skipped lessons and dealt with all manner of things which they shouldn't have.

After fours years of destroying and wrecking things, it was realised between the pair that they were not going to pass their exams as they had done no studying at all. Never fear though, Jalk came to the rescue, creating a device that would implant knowledge direct to their brains. After several failed attempts, they finally suceeded, though it didn't work as well with Jalk as it did with Kal for some reason. The knowledge didn't stick in their minds, but it stayed their long enough for the two to pass their Starfleet Academy exams.

The duo, now near inseperable, were posted together onboard the USS Victory. Here, they formed a part of a special expeditionary science team using their own shuttle craft (the Shuttlecraft Cook) with several other officers. Once again, their attention was limited to more unorthodox experiments and several formal and informal disciplinaries were given to both Kal an Jalk for various reasons including things ranging from turning all the water produced in the shuttlecrafts replicators to vodka to trying to turn the shuttlecraft micro warp core into a buffering device for the phasers and leaving the shuttlecraft stranded for ten days until the Victory could come and pick them up.

Despite the odds, one fateful day in 2375, the USS Victory ended up being nearly destroyed and it was only because of the actions of the Shuttlecraft Cook (which was on the way back to the ship at the time) was the ship averted from being destroyed. The whole team of the shuttlecraft were promoted (including Kal and Jalk for they were recognised to have helped with the saving of the Victory) and given their own ship, the USS Calypso.

However, Jalk did not join the rest onboard the USS Calypso. His mind for experimentation and development of sciences was noticed and Jalk was offered a position instead at the Utopia Plantia Fleetyards. There he helped upgraded and build numerous ships to serve within the fleet until another project suddenly lept out for his attention that was forming at the San Francisco Fleetyards... The Vanquish Project.

Excited by the new project, Jalk was involved with the main design team for the new experimental technology to be found onboard the USS Vanquish. He even managed to get his friend Argelius-Kal involved into the project and when the USS Vanquish was launched, the two were apparantly the obvious choice to serve upon her as the ships leading science officers.
