Deck One Layout

The above image shows the layout of Deck One of the USS Vanquish where one will find the ready room, conferance lounge and of course, the bridge. This is often considered the central hub of the Vanquish where from commands can be issued and courses set. It is the nerve centre of operations onboard the Vanquish and from here virtually any area of the Vanquish's command functions can be accessed.

The Conferance Lounge

The Conferance Lounge can be found towards the rear of the bridge (top left of the picture). In this room, a long ornate table resides. Inlaid with sturdy reinforced pine edges, the centre of the table is coloured black and serves as an additional hard wearing computer surface if required by those who sit around it. In the very centre of the table exists a holographic generator that can produce three dimension images off anything that needs to be illustrated by those assembled in this room.

At either end of the room, the walls hold a large computer screen each that is viewable from either end of the room. The screen towards the rear of the room is the larger of the two (and it is usually at the chair in front of this the Captain would sit when holding meetings with his department heads). There is also three doors that access this room, two of which belong to turbo-lift's, the third leading out onto the Bridge itself.

The Conferance room is used for a variety of purposes. Most of the time, it serves as a kind of board room for the Captain of the ship and his senior officers where the Captain gives out briefings and debriefings on current missions and assesses the ships state of function. At other times, the lounge can be used also for meetings with ambassadors and other dignitaries, providing a room within which negotiations can take place.

Other Functions of Deck One

Located on Deck One behind the bridge is a small portion of the Vanquishs electronics. Here, there is backup redundant computer systems to power the bridges systems, emergency power supplies for the bridge, a seperate emergency life support system, some of the Holographic Scramblers units (though most of the electronics for this is situated on deck two) and access to the Vanquish's Jefferies tubes network. These can all be accessed via hatches situated along the corridor at the back of the bridge.

Captain's Ready Room

As on most Federation starships, the Captain's Ready Room serves as a kind of office for the ships commanding officer. Here, the ship's Captain can retreat to in any situation to consider the options of the vessel as well as reviewing situations and reports in private. The Captain will also use this room for holding smaller meetings with crew members where by only one or two persons have to be present (such as talking things over with the ships XO).

The Ready Room is located towards the rear of Deck One, just behind the bridge (upper right hand of the image shown above for Deck One). Inside, the first thing in the room is a desk set up in a simalar manner to that of the one in the conferance lounge, only on a smaller scale. Behind it, the Captain sits and another two chairs are provided in front of the table for those visiting the Ready Room to speak to the Captain.

Further back into the Ready Room, one can find a large comfortable sofa against the far wall, behind which a window shows the scene outside of the Vanquish. A small coffee table is provided and a replicator unit, allowing the Captain to hold less formal meetings in this room as well as required.

Onboard the USS Vanquish, Captain Rees has also decorated the room with several personal items of his own. On the wall beside the replicator (opposite where the Captain sits behind his desk), is a large brass wall plaque showing the previous ships that Captain Rees has served upon, including the USS Melbourne (Excelsior Class), USS Edgewise (Galaxy Class), USS Ocean (Nebula Class), USS Savage (Defiant Class) and off course, his current vessel, the USS Vanquish (Vanquish Class). On his desk sits a small double photo frame, showing his current fiancée, Commander Jasmine Rayne, and his newly found son, Jamie.

The Main Bridge

The centre of operations onboard the Vanquish, the main bridge controls the entire ship during joint operation and also controls the Primary Hull during split operation. Three main turbo-lifts provide access to the bridge, one located on either side of the bridge on the far wall, the last situated down a corridor behind the Captain's chair. Two of these turbo-lifts also provide access to the Conferance Lounge.

From the main bridge, access can be gained to the Captain's Ready Room, the Conferance Lounge and also a number of the emergency systems dedicated to the Main Bridge.

The rear part of the Bridge is raised higher than the forward part, allowing those working at the back of the bridge a clear view of the view screen that takes up the entire front wall. Two steps lead down from the back of the bridge to the front and raised in a central position is the command positions, including the Captain's chair.

Conn and Ops

Here sits the Conn Officer (otherwise known as Helm or Flight Officer) on the left hand side of the Bridge. The Conn position is where the Vanquish is flown from, setting course to new destinations or pulling of complex maneauvers in battle.

Beside the Conn position on the bridge is the Ops control (Ops is short for Operations). From here, every function of the ship is monitored, from life support to sensors, from crew to computer systems. The Operations officers duty is to ensure that the ship remains running smoothly no matter what the situation is.

Tactical and Security

At this console to the right hand side of the bridge and raised slightly from the rest of the positions is the Security and Tactical console. The console is large enough to allow two people to comfortably work at and controls functions of both internal security (co-ordinating teams of security officers and holographic security) and of external tactical (co-ordinating the use of the Vanquish's weapons and other defensive systems).

Surplus Console

Sometimes reffered to as the Spare console, the surplus console is capable (like many other consoles) or operating in a large number of the ships functions. Located on the left hand side of the bridge in mirror image to the Tactical and Security Console, the surplus console can be used often used when situations call for more people to be on the bridge than normal.

To of the most common uses of the surplus console is with the twin Conn officers option or the seperate tactical/security option. In the twin Conn officers option, the position normally delegated for Op's is taken over by a second Flight Officer with Operations moving back to work from the surplus console. In the tactical/security option, The Tactial and Security Console becomes fully dedicated to Tactical functions and Security moves over to use the surplus console instead.

These off course are not the only options and the console can also be used for a variety of roles, from scientific to engineering. If an observer onboard needs a console to work from, then it is usually the surplus console that is handed over to them.

Engineering and Enviromental Control's consoles

Located to the right and rear of the bridge is the Engineering and Enviromental Control consoles. Not always found in use, the Enviromental console provides full access to the Vanquish's life support systems, monitoring that they are fully functional at all times, while the Engineering console gives a direct link to the Engine Room and other areas of engineering onboard ship, allowing an engineer to monitor the ships engineering aspect from the bridge.

Science and Communications/Hull Link Consoles

Like the Engineering and Enviromental Control consoles, the Science and Communication/Hull Link consoles are not always found in use. Found towards the left and rear of the bridge, the Science console provides the Science department a link to their sensitive sensor equipment and the rest of the Science labs from the bridge. The other console is the communication/hull link console. Communications is becoming a vastly redundant area in Starfleet, the function being taken over by the Operations and Security Departments, however in times when vast amounts of communication is needed, this console can be brought into action to monitor the airwaves and frequencies. At other times, the console can also serve as a direct link and communication line to the Secondary Hull and it's Bridge, allowing for precision maneauvering to occur with the two hulls during split operation mode.

Command

In the centre of the bridge sits the Command chairs. In the immediate centre is the Captain's Chair, often occupied by however is charge of the watch at the time. In the arm of the Captain's chair is a small computer console, enabling the Captain access to virtually any off the functions available on the ship.

The right of the Captain's chair is the Executive Officers chair with it's own small console beside it. From here, the XO or who ever makes up the second officer of the watch can sit and monitor the situation, close to the Captain's side.

To the left of the Captain's chair then is the Observers chair. At times, it may be required to have a person onboard as an observer or advisor who normally would not be present. This chair is then offered to those persons beside Captain and a small console is provided to which functions can be limited or allowed depending on the person who takes this position.

During designing the Bridge, it was noted the vulnerability of the Captain to anyone exiting the rear most turbo-lift. However, the first line of defence in this case is the constant survelliance of activity on the Bridge by the ships AI who can call upon holographic security officers at any time to impede any approach to the Captain. Failing this, a number of force fields can be raised on the bridge and in a semi-circle around the back of the Captain's chair, a permenant force field is nearly always in operation, allowing only authorised personnel to move through it.

Another useful function of the platform upon which the Captain sits is that the whole platform and chair can sink into the floor. This operation then turns the Captain's chair into a turbo-lift off sorts and can speed through the ship via the turbo-lift network to reach any other point in the ship, including bringing the Captain straight into the command position onboard the Secondary Bridge or the Captain's Yaught. Should such a function be required, a second Captain's Chair then swings up into place after the original Captain's chair has vanished to allow the ship to continue with normal function.

Crew Quarters

On decks 2,3,6,14 and 19, one will find that there are the large variety of crew quarters where the crew rest and sleep. These function more than just a place to lay one's head however, and most also feature facilities for it's inhabitants to eat and spend some time away from the rest of the ship.

Crew Quarters come in a variety of ships and designs according to where they are positioned in the ship, the rank of the person occupying those quarters and how many people are sharing them. It would a mamoth task to show below every single persons quarters onboard the Vanquish due to this variety, especially as most people personnalise their quarters, moving things around from their standard layout. Instead, below is shown some typical crew quarters, as they appear when first constructed (though as noted above, this often changes according to the tastes of the occupant).

Junior Officers an Junior NCO Quarters
Single Officer and Senior NCO Crew Quarters
The Captain's Quarters

Junior Officer and Junior NCO Quarters

These quarters are mainly located throughout decks 2, 3 and 14 and make up the bulk of the quarters onboard the Vanquish. Here, officers with the rank of Cadet, Ensign or Lieutenant (jg) or Junior NCO's (Petty Officer or lower) share their quarters with three other officers of the same sex as themselves. The Quarters are made up of three rooms (the positioning of in relation to one another of these varies according to where in the ship the quarters is found) which include a Bedroom, Living Room and Bathroom.

The Bedroom (pictured on the left in the picture shown) features two double bunks and a large wardrobe along one wall. A door normally seperates the this from the living room to save person who are asleep from being disturbed by those who are awake in the main living room.

The Living Room (pictured in the centre of the picture shown), incoperates a computer terminal and chair, a small dinning table with two chairs, and a sofa and chair facing a large viewing screen. There is also a replicator built into this room.

The Bathroom (shown to the right of the picture shown) houses a single shower cubicle, toilet and a sink. Again, a door seperates this from the main living room to allow occupants some privacy.

Single Officer and Senior NCO Crew Quarters

Officers of the rank of Lieutenant, some more privilaged Lieutenant (jg)'s (normally those who have positions like Assistant head of their department) and Senior NCO's (Chief Petty Officer and above) do not have to share quarters with other officers. Instead, they are given a simple two room quarters, comprising of their main room and a bathroom.

The main room combines a living room and a bedroom into one. It features a single bed, a computer terminal and chair, a sofa and a replicator. It is seperated by a door to the bathroom so that privacy can still be afforded if one has guests around.

The Captain's Quarters

These are not the typical Captain's quarters assigned to a Captain of a Vanquish class star ship. These are instead the personal quarters of Captain Richard Rees on the USS Vanquish who has been afforded a little more space to house his family. These quarters feature five rooms, including the main bedroom, Jamies bedroom, bathroom, living room and dinning room. It is worth noting that Captain's normally have the most spacious quarters onboard ship due to their status.

The Main Bedroom is located to the top left of the picture shown. In addition to wardrobe and cupboard space for storage of clothes, it also features a double bed which himself and his wife, Commander Jasmine Rees, share. A door seperates this room from the living room.

Jamies Bedroom (pictured to the left of the picture shown) is where the Captain's young son sleeps. Again, there is plenty of cupboard space and a single bed for Jamie. This is seperated by a door leading into the Dinning Room.

The Bathroom (found in the bottom left of the picture) is pretty much like any other crew bathrooms on the Vanquish, featuring a shower, sink and a toilet. A door seperates the bathroom from the main living room.

The Living Room (located centre left of the picture) is very spacious room indeed. It features a computer terminal and chair to one side while on a slightly raised platform, a large sofa along with comfortable chairs can be found opposite where a large viewing screen is placed on the wall.

The Dinning Room (located centre right on the picture) can be accessed from the main living room. There is no door dividing it from the living room, but there is steps leading down into it. Here, there is large dinning table with six chairs (to incoperate guests as well as the Captain's family) as well as the standard replicator.

It is also worth noting that the Captain's Quarters is located on the outside of Deck 6, giving the Captain a view of the stars outside.

Deck Four: Main Messhall, Kitchen and State Room

The Messhall is located at the front of Deck Four. Here, the crew can come to relax and unwind in a public meeting area that doubles up as a bar as well (run by the civlian Klingon by the name of Kr'aat'ch). It is the focus for main non-duty related activities throughout the ships, such as authroised parties, concerts etc...

The Messhall is also serviced by a kitchen where a team of cooks under the direction of Kalena Bell prepare and serve homemade meals for those who want something different to the normal replicator foods (though there are replicators also provided for those who are fussy). Meanwhile, behind it all sits the Captain's State Room, a large dinning room where the Captain can entertain guests such as visiting ambassadors to a touch of dinner.

Deck Five: Sickbay

On deck five, one can find the extensive facilities of sickbay. Here, crew members come if they feel ill or need treatment for any number of medical problems. A dedicated team of doctors and nurses serve this facility, keeping the crew of the USS Vanquish in peek physical health.

Deck Five: Strategics and Development Centre

This series of rooms can only be found on Deck Five of the USS Vanquish, having been especially built for Commander Jasmine Rees to work within. As the Strategics and Development officer, the Commander has two roles. The first is to act as co-ordinator for large numbers of ship during hostile situations, feeding regular battle information to all ships and organising them so that they can be the most effective. Her second role is as a teacher for cadets who are serving active duty onboard the USS Vanquish, training for the eventuality of one day becoming full officers of their own accord. This Strategics and Development centre is intended to allow her to perform both duties without needing to move far from one to the other.

Deck Nine: Primary Engine Room Layout

The above image shows the layout of the Primary Engine Room on deck Nine onboard the Vanquish class starship. The Vanquish class use twin warp cores to power it, the second warp core acting as an emergency back up should the primary core fail while also able to rest between cores should one become over stressed at high warp speeds. If the bridge is the brain of the ship, then the engine room is the ships heart. The Primary Engine Room though only forms a small part of the domain of the engines and other engineering systems. However, it's positioning makes it a key area for all engineering functions and possibly one of the most important areas on the ship.

Chief Engineers Office

The Chief Engineers office is a small personnal office belonging to the Chief Engineer where they can come and with draw from the main pace of life for a while. From here, the Chief Engineer can overview any engineering function of the engine room or conduct small meetings with other engineers as required. It normally features a desk with an inlaid console and a replicator.

Storage Room

The small storage room behind the Chief Engineers office contains a variety of small componants that are difficult to fabricate as well as also containing the large variety of tools that may be required by the engineers in maintaining the vessel.

Replication Room

Sometimes, a componant will be needed that is either not carried by the vessel or is too big to be reproduced via a normal replicator. The Replication room contain's a larger version of the normal replicator that can be found through out the ship. From here, the replicator can be used to produce larger and more complex items than normal.

Other Electronics

Behind the replicator room, and indeed, running throughout the whole vessel, there is a large assortment of miscellenious electronics and equipment that deals with everything from life support to power transferrence. These electronics and conduits can normally be accessed via a large network of Jefferies tubes that can be entered via a variety of hatches around the ship.

Emergency Blast Door

The emergency blast door is designed to seal shut the engine room in the case of an emergency, protecting the engineers should there be any major leaks or disasters with the Warp Cores. In the primary hull, this serves a dual function as it is also connected to the Warp Engine Break Away system that ejects the whole back section of the ship should all other attempts to prevent a Warp Core Breach fail.

Main Engineering Console

This large table cross computer console sits in the centre of the main working area within the engine room. From here, engineers can monitor and control all engineering aspects of the vessels. Engineers will also gather around here to discuss problems and ideas in much the same way the Captain uses the Conferance Lounge with his senior officers.

Reserve Engineering Console

The Reserve Engineering Console, also known as the Back Up or Emergency Console, is a smaller version of the Main Console. However, it's location on the other side of the blast door to the Main Consoles means it sees more use should the whole of main engineering need to be shut down. At other times, engineers may also use this console to conduct their affairs if no other console is available.

Other Engineering Consoles

Over seeing the hundreds of systems onboard the Vanquish class ship is no mean feat. The Main Engineering Console alone would not be enough to monitor all areas or facility some of the hundred odd Engineers who make up part of the Vanquish's crew. For this purpose, throughout the Primary Engine Room, there is also a large number of other consoles that can be used. Some of these lie against the back wall (as pictured here) but others can be found on the very back corridor of the engine room, between the warp cores and also inlaid into the safety rails that are found throughout the engine room that form the balcony edges.

Service Lifts

Though the Vanquish has a well connected and organised turbo-lift system, in the Primary Engine Room there is also two service lifts that are located on either side of the room between the twin warp cores. These lifts access the four decks that the two warp cores feed through, decks seven, eight, nine and ten.

Plasma Conduits

There are four main Plasma Conduits that cross the room, two for each core, leading off to the two Nacelles on either side of the ship. These conduits carry a large supply of energy and thus need regular maintenance. Though crossing the main route around the room, their positioning means that most people can walk under them without having to duck.

Primary Warp Core

The fore most warp core out of the pair is called the Primary Warp Core. Most of the time, it is this warp core that is put in use, powering the mighty warp engines and thus it's positioning is shown in relevance to importance.

Secondary Warp Core

The Secondary Warp core lies behind the first one. Most of the time, this warp core lies in a semi-dormant state, allowing a small amount of power to trickle through it's systems. However, with a split seconds notice, this warp core can be brought up to a fully functional status to take over from the Primary Warp Core should the Primary Core fail or need to rest when conducting high warp speed travel.

Deck Eighteen: Armoury and Firing Range

On Deck Eighteen can be found the main sidearm storage room (otherwise known as the Armoury - another smaller one can be found on Deck Five) and the Firing Range where authorised personnel can come and practice their aim with a phaser in a safe enviroment.
