Game # 1 - 01/19, 1pm - AWAY at Team HWO

The first game of the new 2002 Winter season turned out to be a makeshift game. Linda played for the short bench Team HWO against the Rebels. Both squads on the ice had only four skaters to each side to start this game.

The Rebels scored first on goals by Lina and Carol as Team HWO ended the first period ahead, 3-2, with three goals of their own.

Joan began the second period scoring to tie the game 3-3. Team HWO scored the next two goals before Jeanne scored her goal. Team HWO added another goal to end the third period leading 6-4.

Team HWO extended their lead to 9-4 as Linda collected two goals for her hat trick scoring. Lina scored the last goal of the period but the Rebels trailed 9-5 when the buzzer sounded.

Both squads agreed to a short 5-minute period of additional skating before calling it a day. Vikki scored her hat trick goal while Jeanne collected her second goal to end the game 10-6 favoring Team HWO.

Game # 2 - 01/26, 1pm - HOME vs Team HWO

Team HWO scored the first goal of the game but three quick goals by Lina, Joan and Carol gave the Rebels a 3-1 lead. Then, scores by Vikki and June tied the game at 3-3 before Lina gave the Rebels a 4-3 lead going into the break.

The Rebels extended their lead to 7-3 on a Joan assisted score by Christin and back to back goals from Rebels' newcomer Liz.

After a Team HWO goal, Linda made a setup pass to Christin for her second goal of the game. Then, Christin and Joan setup the next two goal scores to give Liz four goals in the game and the Rebels a 10-4 lead. Three late scores by Team HWO ended the game as a 10-7 final score victory for the Rebels.

Game # 3 - 02/02, 1pm - AWAY at Team HWO

Week three into the season confirmed there would only be two teams playing for the season. All players agreed to changing the time period format to three 20-minute running time periods versus the usual two periods of one 20- plus one 25-minute running time.

Traci scored the first two periods of the game to give the Rebels an early lead. Team HWO, the combined remaining players of the Fall Season Polar Cats and Spitfire, scored four unanswered goals to take a 4-2 into the second period.

Jenn scored Team HWO's fifth goal before the Rebels tied the game, 5-5, on goals by Christin, Lina and Jeanne. However, Vikki reclaimed Team HWO one goal lead, 6-5, on a goal scored before the end of the second period.

Jeanne, on a setup pass from Lina, tied the score for the game's third time. Joan scored the go ahead goal while Christin (her second) and Jeanne (her third) scored to push the Rebels' lead to 9-6. Team HWO picked up two more scores to end the third period 9-8.

Elizabeth faced and blocked the lone penalty shot by Team HWO in a "football tackle" style to preserve the Rebels' win. Both the goalie and the shooter picked themselves up laughing as the miscue was caused by the loss of a skate's edge on the quick move going to the right.

Game # 4 - 02/09, 1pm - HOME vs Team HWO

Both teams were suffering from not being 100 percent: Short players benches, a little sick and a little tired. Could it be a bit of the "Olympic Games Fever" going around? Today's game was shortened to 45 minutes versus 60 minutes.

Lina started the game scoring for the Rebels while Christina countered with a goal for Team HWO to tie the game with a shot on the goalie sub (Mr. Orange Cone to you and me). Midway through the first period, Hockey WorkOut supplied a goalie for the Rebels' net (to replace Mr. Cone). Next, Lina scored the Rebels' go ahead goal to reclaim the lead. Finally, the period's scoring ended with Linda getting what eventually turned out to be the game winning goal.

The second period lead off with Jeanne scoring a quick goal and later Mary scoring to push the Rebels' lead to 5-1. Christina ended all scoring for the day with her second goal of the game for Team HWO to create a final game score of 5-2 favoring the Rebels.

The game was over and everyone was hustling to get home to warm up and get a TV shot of the Olympic games. Hurry. Olympic hockey is schedule for 3pm!

Game # 5 - 02/16, 1pm - HOME vs Team HWO

Knowing the U.S. women's hockey team had played earlier in the morning to a 5-0 victory over Finland and Team Canada would not be playing for at least 4-5 hours against Sweden, everyone decided to come out to play hockey to pass the time.

Visiting Team HWO scored the opening goal of the game but Carol H. tied the game on a Lina setup shot on net. Traci then gave the Rebels a 2-1 lead on the next goal scored. Team HWO tied the game at two goals apiece before Lina scored to reclaim the Rebels' lead. Unfortunately, Team HWO scored the next five unanswered goals to take a 7-3 lead into the first break.

Linda started the second period scoring followed by Jenn's goal to make the score 8-4. Lina scored her second goal of the game before Kristine scored her second goal to change the score to 9-5. Team HWO scored again but was countered by a hat trick goal by Lina and a second goal from Linda. Jenn completed the game's scoring as Team HWO reclaimed its four goal lead ending the game 11-7 and taking home the victory.

A final 10-minute mini-period was played to end the day as Mr. Cone returned to play in the Team HWO net. Both teams scrambled up and down the ice to only obtain a single goal for their efforts. Our local game was over but everyone was looking forward to the Olympic women's hockey game to be played on TV in a few hours.

Game # 6 - 02/23, 1pm - AWAY at Team HWO

The Rebels scored first on a Christin goal from a quick setup pass from Linda. Liz and Lina followed with their first goals of the day to make the score 3-0. Then Linda score three of the next for goals to give the Rebels a 6-1 lead over Team HWO. Jeanne scored next to end the first period scoring with the Rebels up 7-1.

The scoreboard was reset to zero-zero to simulate another game at the start of the second period. Lina scored the first goal of the period before Linda scored on a Liz setup pass. Then Liz scored the next three goals for a "natural hat trick" to give the Rebels a 5-0 goals scored for the period.

The third period scoreboard was reset again to zero-zero. After 40-minutes of hockey, the goal scoring pace was slowing down as the Rebels utilized the new period as a passing drill exercise. Team HWO scored the first goal of the period on a puck shot that somehow managed to find the tiniest of openings while Elizabeth had the left post smothered with her goalie pads. Lina and Jeanne ended the period's scoring for a 2-1 Rebels' goals scored advantage.

Joan took the lone penalty shot (issued for too many men on the ice) but Team HWO's Theresa stopped the attempt to end the final goal tally 14-2 favoring the Rebels.

Game # 7 - 03/02, 1pm - AWAY at Team HWO

With Liz playing for Team HWO to balance each bench with five players, the Rebels fell behind 1-0 on a goal by Liz. Jenn scored the next three goals for a natural hat trick to end the period 4-0 favoring Team HWO.

Vikki made it 5-0 on her first goal of the game in the second period before Christin scored the Rebels' first goal. Vikki scored her second goal of the period to end the second period scoring at 6-1.

The first goal of the third period was by Vikki before Linda scored the Rebels' second goal. Later Carol scored from behind the net on a Linda setup pass. Liz scored the last goal of the game for Team HWO to end regulation 8-3 favoring Team HWO.

Elizabeth stopped Team HWO's lone penalty shot created by a Rebels' interference penalty when the skating play was in the defensive zone during the third period.

Game # 8 - 03/09, 1pm - HOME vs Team HWO

With Lina playing for Team HWO to balance each bench with five players, the Rebels began the game's scoring with a goal by Jeanne. Team HWO tied the game on a score by Susan. Joan and Traci scored the next two goals before Team HWO tied the game at 3-3 on scored from Lina and June. The period ended with five unanswered goals by Traci (2) and Carol (3) and an 8-3 Rebels' advantage.

The second period started with back to back goals by Carol and Traci before Susan scored Team HWO's fourth goal of the game. Traci scored again for the Rebels before Christina and Lina picked up two more scores for Team HWO. Christin ended the second period scoring to give the Rebels a 12-6 lead.

The third period saw Traci collect her sixth goal of the game on a Carol rebound shot while Christin scored twice to end the game with a hat trick of her own.

Game # 9 - 03/16, 1pm - AWAY at Team HWO

Lina began the game's scoring early in the first period. Then Carol doubled the Rebels' score to 2-0 over Team HWO on a goal while the score advanced to 4-0 on back to back scores by Christin.

The second period started with a Team HWO goal by Susan followed by a Christin tally to make the score 5-1. Then Lina, switching uniforms from red (Rebels) to white (Team HWO), scored and later assisted on the next goal by Christina to help Team HWO pull within two goals. Christin scored the next two Rebels' goals while Susan countered with two Team HWO tallies to end the period at 7-5 favoring the Rebels.

The third period had Lina switching colors again (white to red) as Traci scored before Jenn and June picked up a goal each to pull Team HWO within a goal of the Rebels' 8-7 lead. Traci ended the period's scoring as the Rebels completed regulation up 9-7.

Joan took the Rebels' lone penalty but did not score. Meanwhile, Elizabeth faced no penalty shots and collected her fifth victory of the season.

Game #10 - 03/23, 1pm - HOME vs Team HWO

Today's game against Team HWO did not have the makings of a Rebels' win on it. The "hot player" of the day was Vikki as she was on fire for a total of five game scores to snap the Rebels' two-game winning streak with an 8-4 loss.

Carol H. scored the Rebels' lone goal in the first period against three tallies by Team HWO's Vikki.

The second period was a draw in scoring as Susan scored first for Team HWO but Carol S. countered with her first goal of the season a Joan setup pass. June scored Team HWO's next goal while Traci ending the period's scoring for the Rebels on a Jeanne pass.

The Rebels entered the third period trailing 5-2. Vikki collected two more goals and Susan, with her second goal of the game, pushed the score to 8-3. Lina was credited with the Rebels' final tally of the day.

Game #11 - 03/30, 1pm - Away at Team HWO

Liz put the Rebels on the scoreboard first against Team HWO on a pretty setup pass from Joan. Liz doubled the score later while Susan countered for Team HWO. Carol H. completed the scoring for the first period to give the Rebels an early 3-1 lead.

Carol H. and Joan continued the Rebels scoring in the second period before Susan scored her second goal of the game to make the score 5-2 favoring the Rebels. Liz and Carol H. scored each to collect their hat tricks for the game while Jenn powered a score into the Rebels' net to end the period with the Rebels leading 7-3.

The third period had Carol H. sandwiching two goals around Team HWO scores from Jenn and Susan. The Rebels ended the game with a 9-5 victory and a 3-game lead over Team HWO in the standings with one more week left in the current season.
