Mailing List Contest
The Rules:
This was a contest in which the participants, members of the following SW lists:
darkside@onelist.com
jedijournals@onelist.com
fanfic@echostation.com
swfanfiction@egroups.com
sithacademy@onelist.com
wrote a piece of fan fiction which included the following items:
1) A character from Episode 1. The story did not have to take place in The Phantom Menace's timeline, however. It simply had to include a character that was in the movie.
2) One of the following weapons: a lightsaber (single or double bladed), a blaster, or a bowcaster.
3) A planet from any of the four movies.
4) A restraining bolt
5) One of Queen Amidala's headdresses (not necessarily attached to the Queen).
The judges were Lady Selinthia Avenchesca and myself.
The prizes were as follows:
First Place: Any Star Wars story, of any sort, plot, and characters, written by either Selinthia or me, or even co-authored by both, if he/she wished.
Second Place: A Star Wars vignette of the second place winner's choice written by either Selinthia or me. As this was too short to be co-authored, that option wasn't offered here.
Third Place: A Star Wars poem, of any topic, to be written by Selinthia. I didn't write poetry yet at the time.
The Stories:
First Place: A Remembrance by Eddie Powe. After years of searching, Luke and Leia finally learn who their mother was.
Second Place: The Handmaid's Tale by Wezan. What if there was more to Beru than we saw in the movies? What if she had been a handmaiden of Theed?
Third Place: Bitter Rival by Jess Ka Muroc. What if Amidala had had a twin sister?
Other Entries:
First Steps by Kevin Hall. The beginning of Anakin and Amidala's relationship.
Tragedy by Love by Adam Roberts. What if Amidala had had a first cousin once removed who wanted her?
The Prizes:
The Balance by Selinthia Avenchesca and Valerie Vancollie. At the age of 53, Jedi Master Luke Skywalker vanishes without a trace. Twenty years later, he returns the master of an Order unlike either the Jedi or the Sith.
The Last, In Life by Selinthia Avenchesca. Luke's thoughts during Leia's funeral.
Duel of the Fates by Selinthia Avenchesca. A poem of the lightsaber duel at the end of The Phantom Menace.
