The Malta Song For Europe Webpage has been online since 1998 and is now in its fourth year running. It all began when the webmaster, fed up with the poor publicity being given to that year's Maltese entry decided to promote the song by creating an internet site. With limited HTML knowledge, a modest page was created and it offered visitors the opportunity to get the latest news from Malta and download the songs. The thrilling finale to that year's contest held in the United Kingdom, was an inspiration to continue the service for the following year.
In 1999 Times Three represented Malta in Israel with their upbeat song "Believe in Peace". They were probably the most beautiful singers to represent Malta, but a poor performance coupled with a disappointing but deserved result marred all their hard work. Subsequently, an unfortunate incident resulted in a data loss and the website was severely downgraded. Nevertheless, this year saw a significant improvement in quality. A multimedia section featuring the famous Eurovision 'cube' and various Real Audio interviews was well received.
In 2000, Claudette Pace managed to restore some pride to our country by coming 8th place in the first Eurovision Song Contest of the new millennium. Her performance on stage was probably the best ever for Malta and many rightly felt that the final result was harsh, to say the least. Denmark won the contest with their song "Fly on the Wings of Love". This year's webpage was based on the 1999 webpage, with the notable absence of the multimedia section.
It's 2001, and it's Fabrizio Faniello's turn to represent Malta with the bouncy song "Another Summer Night" written by Georgina Abela and composed by Paul Abela. For the fourth consecutive year, the webpage will promote Malta's entry for the Eurovision. A new interface and a new concept have been introduced making the website easily accessible and very fast to load. For coverage of this year's Eurovision Song Contest go to the 2001 website now.
