WHAT DOES VEELAWIN MEAN?

Veelawin is the name that we chose for our Shrine, and it is composed of two parts: veela and the suffix -win.

1) VEELA
The Veela are feminine spirits from Eastern European folklore. These creatures are capable of morphing, they live in forests, mountains, lakes and clouds. In their habitual forms they can be swans, horses, hawks, serpents or wolves; but they are very attractive and dangerous in their human forms: beautiful, long haired maidens that wear cloudy robes and are known for dancing under the moonlight in summer.

Young men can fall under their spell and lose their minds: they become numb and forget to eat, drink and sleep; often for days at a time.

Those unfortunate enough to see the Veela's dance is forced to join them and dance until they die of exhaustion.

Even though, the Veela can be kind with humans and share their prophetic and healing gifts, they are very temperamental. They do not tolerate to be lied to or cheated, and they can cause terrible punishments, specially to whoever does not fulfill a promise.

2) -WIN

Win is an elfin suffix that has two meanings: 1) Damsel and 2) Foam or Mist.

We chose this suffix because we believe that Veela was too simple, and moreover it can be confused for something else. So we decided to add -win, and it goes with the significance of Veela, it sounds much better: Veelawin.
