Angela and Jim

I'm a 27 yr old newly divorced teacher. I had just ended my marriage with the help of some good friends(on and off the net) and my family. I was bored one Sunday and I decided to "browse" the personal ad sections in Yahoo at first and then I took a leap into MATCH.com. I read over a few (million...hehe) ads. I kept going back to this James guy. I kept leaving his ad aside but was afraid to even think about answering because my ex's name is James. Let's just say, I wasn't up for another "James". Something made me keep going back. Another factor that made me think twice was the fact that I lived in eastern NJ and he lived in eastern PA. We were only an hour apart, but I had done the long distance thing already and I needed someone "here" for me. Finally, after a few hours of mulling it over...I answered his ad and figured like the millions of others I'd answered it would end up in no man's land.

A few days later, I think I either received an email or he asked for authorization on my ICQ.I always left my email, ICQ number and AOL messenger ID so that people could get in touch with me. We only talked a very short time at first that night because I had a family emergency to tend to. But, there he was, waiting for me when I got back. :o} We talked and talked via AOL messenger or ICQ for a few weeks straight. Then he had to go away to Texas. That's actually the first time we talked on the phone. The first time I heard his voice, I knew he was real. We just really clicked. Even those first few weeks of just talking through the messages on the computer,I could feel the kind of person he was, just by reading his messages. I was leary because I had another internet relationship a few months before this and it didn't go that smoothly. I was gunshy and afraid to meet. He had only met one other person through the PC and was gunshy, but ready.

He went away again to Chicago. We talked on the phone and the computer intermittently because it was all long distance. He rang up some monster phone bills in the months that we talked!!

We finally decided to meet. We first chose May 29th. But as the weeks went on, we decided we COULDN'T wait. He had to go to Pittsburgh on Labor Day weekend. I had off Monday from school. We decided to meet on May 24th instead. We were like little kids when we talked. "I can't wait!" was our main staple in our conversations! I still remember the butterflies I got when I saw him pull up to my driveway(and for all you worry warts out there, my neighbor knew he was coming and kept watch and my bro lived around the corner!...hehe).

We watched "Flubber" and had pizza and really just hit it off. After the first awkwardness wore off, it felt as though we had known each other forever. He still makes jokes that I kept getting up off the couch and each time I sat down, I would sit just a tad bit closer to him. (I deny it!...hehe) I remember how nervous I was when he first put his arm around me. Soon after though, I was very comfortable in his arms and felt like I had never been anywhere else. He tells everyone that he knew I was the one when he walked up to the door and saw me.

We spent alot of time together in the weeks after our first meeting. We met our families, my divorce was finalized (YAY!) and I sold my house. Moving day came and Jim worked like a horse to help. We weren't sure how my parents were going to handle the possibilty of him "sleeping over." We kind of hung out and spent time getting my things in order. Of course, the first thing he set up was my PC. Later that night, he heard my mom talking to my little bro about the shower schedule in the morning and how we had to figure out who was going to take one when. She included Jim. He has only slept in his bed at the house he rents once since I moved home.

That was 4 months ago. He has proven to my family that he loves and cares for me. It was a tough road because of my ex. They even gave him a nickname because the "Jim" thing bothered them. They call him "Skip" because I should have "skipped" the first Jim! We are house hunting and trying to save for that and a wedding. Nothing is official. I told him I would only marry him if he asked me properly(jokingly!!). I have a funny feeling it will involve the internet when he does.

We have news. On Dec 6th, 1998, Jim asked me to marry him. We were at the beach on an unusually warm day and he asked me right there.

Smiles!
