I met my wonderful husband and father to our darling son on the
internet. Ironically, he lived in the same city as I and only about four miles away from where I was living at the time.
In the summer of 1995, I had a two-year relationship break up for good. I was 28 years old. I was living in a small town in northern Idaho and decided I need to move to the big city to shake up my life. I moved to Seattle in August that year and never looked back.
I knew I wanted to form a serious, lasting relationship with a partner, but I wasn't sure how to go about finding him. I was tired of the bar scene, and I knew that men wouldn't approach me on the street and ask me to be the mother of their children (and if they did, I think I would have run the other way!). I decided to explore dating options available on the internet and placed personal ads on several different web sites.
After a six-month online relationship (and many expensive phone bills) with a man in eastern Canada that was a major mistake, I realized I didn't want to move away from Seattle to find a partner. I finally narrowed my search to men within 25 miles of where I lived.
I dated a number of men until I met Rob, the love of my life. At the time, Rob was working 60+ hours a week for an engineering consulting company and had little time to meet women. He told me that he decided on his 28th birthday in late July that he was going to check out internet personals to see if there were any good dating prospects.
Rob and I hit it off immediately through email and on the phone. I decided to let him suggest our first date; after about two weeks of email and phoning, he asked if I'd like to accompany him on a date to the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle the afternoon of August 17, 1996. We spent the rest of the day together and we have rarely been apart since (in our free time, off course; we still went to work and stuff :)).
After about a year together, we started planning our wedding. We were married September 6, 1999 in Bellingham, Washington at the home of Rob's parents.
In July 1998, we discovered, much to our delight, that we were
expecting a baby. Gavin David was born March 1999, a perfect (at least, we think so!) and healthy baby boy. We moved to Spokane, Washington, in July 1998 where Rob got a new job, and we just bought a house in May 1999.
It's hard to believe I never would have met Rob if it hadn't been for the internet. Our friends and family are still amazed that we found each other online, we're such a good match. When I tell someone how I met Rob, I can see this look of disbelief in his eyes, but it's true: You can find love on the internet, and I'm living proof.
