The land of the Meolas
Here is the city where the Meola clan is from..The great (and very dirty) metropolis of Naples. I came to here from L'Aquila and I enjoyed my 3-day stay here...The weather was nothing but spectacular and I took soem really great shots of the city and the surroundings.
This is one of the best shots that I took in all of trips...Isn't it breathtaking...This shot of mount Vesuvius shows how pretty the landscape of Europe can be, even with all of the pollution that besets many of Italy's cities...The view from the top of the mountain is just wonderful and I will have a picture of that soon!!! Aside form this, naples is not as bad as everyone says it is. Sure, Naples gets a bad rap, since it is in the south (boy that is very common across many countries, huh???) but I felt like this was a sort of homecoming...I wandered through the alleys and streets (don't know how wise that was) and I tried to find the area where my family lived, but it was cramped, to say the least.
The home of the neapolitan pizza has some of the best pizza in Italy and has some great pasteriesand desserts, like Sfigliotellas and Tiramisu.
This is one of the most impressive building in naples and definately looks like a throwback to the Roman Times...Speaking of which...Here's a little factoid for all of you...Naples (Napoli) used to be called Neapolis (in Latin), translated meaning "New City." This comes from the old Roman period when there was actually a city closeby to Naples, but they built the "New City" instead. This city was in a much better geographical location than the old city and it flourished, and the named change to Napoli (Naples) when modern Italian became the common toungue.
