Since high school, I have been trying to turn myself into a writer. Perhaps I am a bit slow, but 20 years later, I sold my first freelance piece to the Washington Post. Since then, they have bought four other pieces on topics ranging from food to travel to how to talk to kids about difficult subjects. In 1994, I wrote about about a month-long business trip to Kenya and Uganda. Last year I also joined Toastmasters, for which my goal is to write and deliver 10 speeches in a year.

People have asked me if I have posted any of my other works on my web site. So, I have added this page and will start culling through my various screeds and start publishing them here.

I will start with my most recent pieces, apart from my entries on The Musical Almanac. These are the Toastmaster speeches. Remember that for the most part, these were written to be spoken and so might seem a little odd in tone. I love writing. In fact if I don't write every day, I feel a bit off kilter. I hope that in the piece you see here, you might find something that touches you as it did me.
