Report of the 57th meeting;
In autumn, there're many good fresh fruits and vegetables. When something is just ready, we use this phrase.
ex). Her suit can fit to done to a "T".
This is used especiall for cooking meat, when beveraging is just ready, we can say; "It's done to a T."
One Brazilian lady refused to see the jewery at the jewery shop. She won the case today. The misunderstanding to foreiners becoming a big issue these days. For example at the public bath in Otaru city; the owner attached the warnings saying "Foreigners cannot use this public bath.". Few foreigners acted in a way general Japanese don't play at the public bath. Just they don't know the custom.
If we have a law about racial discrimination, the owner of the bath would have to take respondsibility. In addition, foreigners can't have a chance to attend in Japanese policies. How should we deal with these problems?
On 30th of Septebmber, a big news had spread all over the world; nuclear accident in Tokai Village. The radiation leaked from some company that processing Uranium. Several employees and firefighters were exposed in enormous amount of radiation, it was really a catastrophic accident and affected people's daily life.
We discussed what are the problems in Japanese nuclear policy and compared to other countries.
In Japan, there're no accident that the residence evacuated up to this accident. This is the first time in Japanese people to face with radiation outside the nuclear power plant. Tsuruga nuclear power plant made a false video for accidents recently and electricity company is making a false document for new nuclear power plant construction, people started doubting about nuclear policies. Also, there's a gap between information from massmedia and that from the government. We don't know what is the real information.
As a result of this accident, the vegatable price around the village went down. Feeling sorry for the farmers.
It was pointed out that Japanese people are lack of safety issues. In Europe, there's resistance about nuclear accidents. So the nuclear accident becomes really a big news. What are real safety and real danger?
She's a reinstated toastmaster who moved recently to this region. She introduced her personal history in brief.
In 1975, she entered the unuversity and learned childhood education. She also got BS in accounting and worked at several firms in the U.S. as accountant and social worker. She enjoyed the nature in the states; driving, skiing, ...etc.
Sometimes working in the U.S. and sometimes working in Japan, she joined toastmasters club. Now teaching social work in Sapporo. Let's look forward to her next speech and say the best of luck to her.
Why did he come to this club? Because he wanted to playing with you in English! He likes to see the beauty in language itself. So he introduced two poetries by RYOKAN, famous monk in MUROMACHI era.
We made a long sentence initiated by his voice. Here's some tips;
A child is walking on the way home. He appreciates the colored leaves. He is looking forward to having a dinner. The leaves are fallen on the sidewalk. He'll eat fresh fruits. He'll have a stomachache after two hours. He needs some exercises. He's so hungry, that the leaves looked like fruits.
This is today's poem by Sapporo Toastmasters!
