Andreyevich Nokilay Rimsky-Korsakov was a Russian composer and musical theorist. Rimsky was one of the greatest composers of the Russian nationalist school, and a great master of orchestration. Rimsky was born on March 18, 1844, in Tikhvin, near Novgorod. At the age of twelve he was enrolled at the Naval Academy at Saint Petersburg and continued his musical studies of the piano from back before he was enrolled into the academy. At the age of seventeen Rimsky became the associate of a Russian composer named Mily Balakirev. Balakirev was the dominant figure of a group of young Russian composers. With Rimsky this group was called "The Five". Rimsky became an inspector of naval bands after he retired from active service at the age of twenty-nine. That is just some of Andreyevich Nokilay Rimsky-Korsakov life. |
