The New York City Piano Store Tour
Sunday, January 30, 2000
Beethoven Pianos is described by owner, Carl Demler, as "a stable for pianos" in a building which used to be "a stable for horses" in Midtown Manhattan. If this is an apt analogy, then walking into the first floor of this store might be like walking into a stable of thoroughbreds. If this were "a stable of cars" the names would be like Rolls Royce, Astin Martin, Farrari, Jaguar, etc. The names you'll see are Bosendorfer, Bechstein, Steinway, Sauter, Grotrian, August Forster, Estonia, etc. Inside you'll find pianos that range from the very interesting to the simply astounding. Pianos like this nice old restored Steinway pictured above. The upright behind it is possibly the oldest Steinway anywhere, it dates from 1859. More on that in our own pages later. You will also find some really great bargains in both used, rebuilt and brand new pianos. This store has a factory associated with it, located up in the Bronx (that's another part of New York City, not Manhattan), in which many very unusual pianos are painstakingly rebuilt. In the pages that follow, we'll acquaint you with some of these. We'll also mention some of the very unusual pianos they have, instruments that both play and sound extraordinary. You can follow
our pages or continue on to the Beethoven Pianos Official Homepage. Or you can start anywhere along the tour of this wonderful quality piano dealer.
