Welcome to my Online Journal. By convention, newest entry at the top... All Journal entries have been moved to v2.0. Journal entries will henceforth no longer be posted here. Saturday, September 10, 2005--I spent most of my day working on The Dark Fiend Sanctuary v2.0. It should almost be done, now. Also, I ate Dim Sum today. Also, apparently, English dubbed Naruto premiered on Cartoon Network today. They played it on Toonami. They also censored a lot of stuff. That sucked. Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 4) Total: 8 Reading my old journal entries provides so much insight. Apparently, it was only 2 days after Tracy cut me off that I met Carise. Interesting, isn't it? Anyways, Good Night! Hopefully, next time I see you, it will be in v2.0. Friday, September 9, 2005--Happy Birthday to Connie Chu! This morning, I meant to wake up earlier (but failed) so that I could go to Donuts & Bagels with TBP... I still went, but by the time I arrived, they had ran out of Donuts and only the crappy Bagels were left. But I still had a chat with the gang and I solved, like, 2 crossword words while Trent and Angela were doing the crossword. Lunch at the GBC... Hanging out in the HKN Office with LenWei, Stephanie "SSL" Leung, and XiaoXiao Wang... EE125 Discussion... Apparently, I finished half of the homework during discussion, and by half, I mean the second half. (I had finished the first half yesterday.) Then, I went home. Dice Roll of the Day: (3, 1) Total: 4 Therefore, Good Night! Thursday, September 8, 2005--I like Thursdays. CS188 Lecture... EE125 Lecture... EE125 Homework... isn't too bad... Dice Roll of the Day: (5, 3) Total: 8 Fencing... It's still 8pm, so I haven't gone yet, but if everything goes as expected, it will be good. It will be marvelously good. It will be marvelously Good Night! Wednesday, September 7, 2005--CS170 Discussion... CS162 Discussion... apparently, Melody is in my discussion, although we're getting shuffled around, so Melody might not be in my discussion anymore. CS170 Lecture... (During this break, I go to buy a book, and at the ASUC store, I see Sarah C, w00t! Anyways, Sarah is awesome because Sarah is awesome. Then, I eat dinner at the GBC, turn in my CS170 homework, and register my group for CS162.) CS162 Lecture... After break, I moved up to sit with Melody, because Melody is awesome. I remember how I used to sit with her all the time in EE20 Lecture... except she doesn't remember. Damn! TBP Member Game Night... I played Egyptian Rat Screw (well, not really, I just slapped the winners really really hard). Then, I played Illuminati, which is an amusing game. Dice Roll of the Day: (2, 6) Total: 8 Well, I must say again... Good Night! Tuesday, September 6, 2005--Ah, the return of classes. How joyous (not really). CS188 Lecture... So Nadia joins me for lecture. Me: Is that Melody? Hey, look! It's Melody! Melody: *comes sits by me* Hey, what's up? Nadia: Dwayne, help me with EE120 homework. Me: *helps Nadia with EE120 homework* *notices that Melody is gone* Hey, where did Melody go? Hehe... oops! EE125 Lecture... CS188 Discussion... apparently, they have robot camel jockies in the Saudi Arabia. TBP Meeting... Anyways, I spent the rest of the day solving the CS170 homework. I had some really elegant solutions, so it was good. Dice Roll of the Day: (2, 1) Total: 3 I'd hate to say it again, but... Anyways, Good Night Monday, September 5, 2005--Happy Labor Day! Today, I played Diablo 2, worked on my other website, and... and... Hmm... I think that's it. Dice Roll of the Day: (5, 2) Total: 7 I hope all will turn out to be Good. ...Night! Sunday, September 4, 2005 - Addendum--Oh, also, since the Diablo 2 Ladder reset less than a month ago, today, I finally got around to creating my new Ladder character. He's a Spear Barbarian named Mardonius, after the Persian General. Hmm... maybe I should dig out my old Greek Literature stuff. Greek Literature, be it mythology or history, is a good source of names. Sunday, September 4, 2005--Still burned... Anyways, I spent my day doing a combination of working on The Dark Fiend Sanctuary v2.0 and hanging out with my floormates. Also, Ravnica previews began today on MagicTheGathering.com. Split mana! Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 6) Total: 10 Apparently, I shouldn't ask Lei for advice. Anyways, Good Night! Saturday, September 3, 2005--Today, I went to the football game, Cal vs Sacramento State, with Lindsay (the health worker), Laura (Lindsay's roommate), Cat of the 3rd floor, (Grace had disappeared off the face of the planet), and a bunch of other people from the 4th floor, (but not that one person I really wanted to go to the game with, and that makes me sad). We owned Sac State. We owned them good. The final score was 41-3. Unfortunately, Ayoob, our new "good" quarterback didn't play too well today. He didn't have many pass completions. Most of our touchdowns came from fantastic plays, like when the guy returned the kick for the touchdown. Also, I got sunburned in the face. I didn't know my face could sunburn. Next time, I'm wearing sunblock. Dice Roll of the Day: (3, 6) Total: 9 On a completely unrelated note, apparently, Albert is now tutoring Florence. Haha, Florence is awesome. If she can survive me, she can survive anything. Good Night! Friday, September 2, 2005--First Friday of the semester... Anyhow, in the morning, I worked on my CS170 Homework. After spending about two hours thinking about this one hard problem, I solved it, so I was like "Hurray!" But then it turned out two of the problems I had solved earlier were wrong, so I was like "Damn it!" But it's all good. EE125 Discussion... we reviewed Linear Algebra. It was pretty trivial. Also, there was this cute girl sitting next to me, but then she decided to move to a seat closer to the front. 5 seconds after she moved, the GSI said, "Now, I want you to meet the people around you." And I'm like damn, that cute girl just left. CS170 Lecture... I ditched this because it happened at the same time as EE125 Discussion. I have an irresolvable schedule conflict. Afterwards, I hit up Eudemonia and bought a Saviors of Kamigawa fat pack. Unfortunately, I'm a bit tired right now, so I'll describe the cards I got later. Finally, after dinner, I chilled with my floormates. We went out for some donuts. (I saw Sarah C at the Asian Ghetto... Sarah...) Then, we came back to Cunningham Hall for brownies. However, as someone opened the stairwell door for us, we snuck on right up the elevator and started messing around. First, we went to the 3rd floor and threw a chair off the balcony so that it would hang by the chain and match Griffiths. Then, we got some guy in Ehrman to do the same. Unfortunately, we failed in Davidson. Back in Griffiths, we pulled some shit with the UCDC, the University of California Department of Communications. Hehe... No, we weren't drunk. We're just awesome like that. Dice Roll of the Day: (3, 5) Total: 8 Something seems to be missing... Oh well, Good Night! Thursday, September 1, 2005--Anyways, I spent most of my morning doing homework, because I decided that I should. CS188 Lecture... I ran into Diana from CS61b so many semesters ago. She's in CS188, apparently. (She's a Cog Sci major.) Also, Nadia sat with us. (Apparently, Nadia and Diana are anagrams of each other.) Also, Vik S joined us. Me: Apparently, Melody is in our class. Nadia: Yeah, I know. That's what I was trying to tell you on Tuesday. Me: ...oh. EE125 Lecture... it's mostly review of stuff I had seen in CS184, except Prof Tendick actually tried to prove all the stuff. Then, I slacked off for the rest of the afternoon, because I didn't feel like doing homework. Finally, I went fencing. Vivian was there. Therefore, it was good. Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 3) Total: 9 Therefore, it was Good Night! Wednesday, August 31, 2005--Today was the third day of class. After starting off my day with some really really boring CS188 homework, at 1pm, I went to CS170 Discussion... it was boring. We covered stuff I already knew, like Big-O and Mathematical Seduction. CS162 Discussion... was cancelled because it's the first week of the year, so I went to the HKN Cory Office to hang out. CS170 Lecture... After a break, which I took at the HKN Soda Office doing the new CS170 homework, I went to CS162 Lecture... I sat directly behind Melody, but I think she's starting to avoid me in spirit, even though she'll still converse with me when necessary. Dinner at XRoads... Something of a boredom... Dice Roll of the Day: (1, 2) Total: 3 Anyways, Good Night! Tuesday, August 30, 2005--Today was my second day of class. I had my first class at 12:30pm, right after lunch (which I ate at Crossroads), and it was CS188 Lecture... Nadia, Abhishek, Vik S, and Ellen Z were in my class, along with probably other people that I didn't notice. In any case, it seems that this class will not be primarily about language AI and game AI, but AI is still cool anyway. Unfortunately, it seems that Prof Russell didn't actually read Turing's 1950 paper, Computing Machinery and Intelligence, because the way he described it was just plain incorrect. (I've read the paper. I would know.) Right after CS188 was EE125 Lecture... Amy was also in my class, which I had forgotten until I saw her just today. After chilling out in the HKN Soda Office with the UPE people that I don't know (except Kaisen, whom I know from Microsoft), I went to CS188 Discussion... It's in some low-end building that has no hallways or something. We learned about the differences between Scheme and Common LISP. On this day: In 2004: The first day of 2nd-Year College classes After that, I had dinner at the GBC, then I ran off to the TBP Meeting with the TBPeople. Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 5) Total: 11 Ugh! Homework! ...Good Night! Monday, August 29, 2005--Today was the first day of class. Fortunately, I didn't have any classes until 3pm, which was my CS170 Lecture... Then, since it was too early for dinner (4pm), I went to the GBC and bought some pop tarts. Then, I went to the HKN Cory Office, where I saw Tracy, but then, she left, and then later, everyone else left, so I got kicked out of the Office. So instead, I went to the HKN Soda Office, where I hung out with Stephanie (whose username seems to be SSL), Ellen, and some others I forget. From 5:30 to 7pm was CS162 Lecture... apparently, the whole gang from CS184 is back, including me, Mark, and Sasha. Also, apparently, professor Kubi is very anti-Microsoft. (But he still uses PowerPoint, which is cool.) Also, Melody was in our class. Me: Melody! You're in this class? Awesome! Join my group for the project! (That was not a question.) And then I asked for her cell # and was denied! Man, that sucked. Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 3) Total: 9 Finally, I went fencing. Unfortunately, Jasmine cancelled out in the last second. Thankfully, Vivian (who said she was more interested in Tae Kwon Do) came, which made me happy. Thank you, Vivian. Because of that, it was a Good Night! Sunday, August 28, 2005--Today, after screwing around at home, I went back to Berkeley. Funny story. According to The Facebook, Faith Chien from Leland is in Griffiths (my building), but she didn't specify where. So today, I spent about half an hour exploring my entire building looking at all the nametags to see where she was. However, I had neglected to check my own floor under the assumption that if she lived on my floor, I would have run into her already. And it turns out she was on my floor. On my way back from visiting Ada and Evonne on the 3rd floor, I ran into her. Her: Oh... hello... They told me we had a senior on our floor. I guess that must be you. (Clearly she didn't know me that well.) Me: ...Faith? You live in my building on my floor and I didn't find out until just now? Her: Yeah, well, I just moved in this afternoon. Anyways, classes begin tomorrow. I'm not so excited about the classes as I am about seeing my old fiends again. Especially at Fencing practice... she is supposed to be there. Dice Roll of the Day: (2, 2) Total: 4 Anyways, I'm going to have a Good Night! Saturday, August 27, 2005--Today, I went to my father's company's company picnic, where we had Armadillo Willy's BBQ. It wasn't as good as Dixie's BBQ. Then, again, Armadillo Willy's is like a corporate owned restaurant while Dixie's is privately owned, so yeah. But Armadillo Willy's is still good. Afterwards, I went to Kellie's where apparently, Kellie plays Starcraft now. Dice Roll of the Day: (1, 5) Total: 6 Good Night! Friday, August 26, 2005--I went to get a health checkup at the doctor's because I haven't had a health checkup in 5 years. Other than that, I spent most of my day uploading journal entries to Viltris.com. Dice Roll of the Day: (1, 2) Total: 3 Anyways, so Franklin and I played a game of MTG where we each took two decks and played 2v2. It was my Slivers and Rats vs his Counter/Control and Ninjas. In the beginning, I was taking the lead, amassing my Sliver and Rat army, until Franklin played a Winds of Rath, which destroyed everything. Then, I slowly began rebuilding and managed to bring out a Nezumi Graverobber, and flipped him to become Nighteyes the Desecrator. Then, I played Marrow-Gnawer. Franklin, upon seeing the craziness I could do with those two, played Wrath of God. Then, Franklin played out his Ink-Eyes, which he then used to reanimate my Nezumi-Graverobber, which he then flipped, with which then used to reanimate my entire rat army, including good old Marrow-Gnawer. So in the end, I was facing down about a hundred rat tokens. Anyways, enough about Nezumi tokage. Good Night! Thursday, August 25, 2005--So today, I went home. It's kind of funny. My mom picked me up and wanted to try eating at the cafeteria (Crossroads), so we went, but it was closed because of Calapalooza (or was that Caltopia, I can never remember). Even funnier was that Daphne (Leland girl who is now an RA in Davidson Hall) was right behind me, and she was like "Oh no!" when I tried to pull open the door, but nothing happened. On this day: In 2003: The first day of Freshman College classes. Anyways, I spent most of the day playing FF8 for some odd reason. Then, I went online and didn't do very much. I probably should have done more. Oh, well! Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 1) Total: 7 Good Night, sirs and madams! Wednesday, August 24, 2005--Yet another temporary journal entry. Anyways, today, I woke up early again (7:30am, I dunno why). I spent most of my time upgrading my new Web Journal. Right now, I'm in the process of migrating my old entries. There's probably a way to automate it, but I don't feel like doing it manually at this point in time. Also, I met up with Lei at about 4:30pm and hung out with her, then I went to dinner with her at Crossroads. Lei: Hey look, it's Teresa. Me: Who's Teresa? Lei: She was in MAH. You've met her. Me: No, I haven't. (It turns out that I hadn't.) Later... Lei: You want to go sit with Teresa and her friends? Me: Who did Teresa come with? Lei: Josephine (?), Elaine... Me: Kuo? Lei: Elaine Kuo, yes. Me: She and I don't get along to well. Lei: *laughs* Then, I guess we won't be joining her group then. Later, some guy named Jeff joined us for dinner to try to invite us to the ABSK Welcome Night BBQ tomorrow. Later, on AIM... Viltris: hey tiffie [Tiffany]: hey Viltris: so i've met not one, but two people in the DC telling me about the ABSK bbq tomorrow night [Tiffany]: do you want to come? Viltris: i'd love to go Viltris: but Viltris: i won't be at berkeley tomorrow night Viltris: give my regards to Viltris: um Viltris: you Viltris: hi tiffie [Tiffany]: are you interested in absk? Viltris: no Viltris: just interested in you Viltris: and in food [Tiffany]: why? Viltris: why what? [Tiffany]: why would you love to come to absk welcome night if that's not what you're interested in? Viltris: because i'm self-centered Yeah, so after chilling out at Lei's some more, I went back to my dorm to watch TV and do nothing in particular. Dice Roll of the Day: (5, 5) Total: 10 Hmm... I wonder if Vivian reads my journal? Hmm... I wonder how many references there have been to Vivian in the past I dunno how long. Hmm... I wonder how far back this section of the Journal goes? I wonder if it'll be a Good Night. Tuesday, August 23, 2005--This is yet another temporary journal entry while things are being migrated to Viltris.com. It'll take a bit of work, mainly because there's just so much shit in here, that and I'm putting it in a database. It's all about new infrastructure that makes maintenance easier. It'll eventually get to the point where to update, all I have to do is add a new database entry, and everything will be taken care of. Even archiving and addendums! Anyways, today, I had meant to sleep in, but for some reason, I woke up at 8am. (Actually, I woke up at 7:30am, but forced myself back to sleep for another hour. Funny, isn't it, that when we're in a new local, it's sudden easier to wake up early in the morning.) Anyways, I spent most of my morning and afternoon working on Viltris.com. Soon, it'll be time for the unveiling. Soon. Actually, it's presentable now, if you go to http://darkfiend.viltris.com/, but it's still under construction. (You'll notice quite a few holes as you go clicking around. On this day: In 2004: First appearances of Guillermo, roommate; Joyce S, girl next door; Irene (IVY), other girl next door; Lynn, Aura, and Minjung, girls downstairs. (Lily, I believe, has already had an appearance in this journal.) Anyways, at night, my roommate David and some friends Laura, Alina, Raymond, and Melissa went out into town to go visit places and chill out. It was amusing. We all adopted fake names, except my real name was better than my fake name, so I just used good old Dwayne. Dice Roll of the Day: (5, 3) Total: 8 Ahh, Good Night, folks! Monday, August 22, 2005--(I'm still posting in here, because it'll take a bit of time to completely migrate everything over to Viltris.com, which is finally up, by the way!) Anyways, today, I moved into Berkeley. It's kind of funny. I said I wouldn't have internet for a while... well, I'll let that story develop as it comes. circa 11:30am I arrive at Berkeley. Funny story, because I have to go borrow a cart, but the cart is underground, and I don't have access to the elevator, so I have to drag the cart up the stairs, move in, then drag the cart back down the stairs to return it. What a silly little system. circa 12pm I discover that my Internet workshop was supposed to be at 11:30, but I missed it. However, I'm able to gather the necessary info and go to the workshop at 12:30 to sign up for my internet connection. After lunch, circa 2:30pm My Internet finally works. Wow, that was fast! I also received a call from the guys at BlueHost.com confirming my contact info for Viltris.com. I also discover that Viltris.com is working. w00t! circa 3:30pm I go to the new student Convocation, where I meet up with Vivian. Me: Excuse me, may I sit here? Vivian: Oh, hi! Michael Chang: Dwayne, what are you doing here? Me: Free food. (Notice how I didn't tell him my real reason. circa 9pm There was the RHA Casino & Dance Night. Me and my new floormates went, but the line was so freakin' long that we didn't get in until 10:45ish. Vivian had hinted that she would be here, but I suppose that she just gave up after seeing the stupidly long lines. Oh well. At least I still had fun meeting up with Minh and running into Sherry, Joyce, Kate, and Cesar. Dice Roll of the Day: (5, 5) Total: 10 Wow, first substantial entry in a while. Obviously, I had a Good day. Night! Sunday, August 21, 2005--You won't see me for a while after today, because tomorrow, I'm moving into Berkeley, and I won't have an Internet connection for a few days. On this day: In 2003: I meet Kim Hung on the Chancellor's Lawn. Anyways, today, I finished up Tutorial #8 for my "Project Viltris" Tutorial site. I'm almost done with Tutorial #9. The issue with the domain names is still being resolved, but by the time I can actually work on them, hopefully, they will be completely resolved. Also, I played MTG with Franklin today. He tried to make a Ninja deck based on my Kamigawa Ninjas. He lost most of the games in the beginning, but once he realized that the secret to success with Ninjas was in dirt-cheap flyers and in Shuriken, he started winning. Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 5) Total: 9 Anyways, this Night was Good, but hopefully tomorrow will be even better. If I'm lucky, I'll see her again. Saturday, August 20, 2005--What did I do today? Let's make a list.
Good Night! Friday, August 19, 2005--Today, I finished Tutorial #7 for Viltris.com. Two more to go, and it'll be time to renovate my website. Dice Roll of the Day: (2, 6) Total: 8 Slow day. Good Night! Thursday, August 18, 2005--Today, I worked on Tutorial #6 for Viltris.com. Yes, I do intend to move that to a real server. In fact, assuming that the beginning of the Berkeley school year doesn't conflict with any of my plans, it will be soon. Yes, my renovated website will be on Viltris.com. Also, I played some FF4 Hardtype. You know what the funniest thing is? Oh, sorry. Spoiler tags! *4*So today, I finally get my ass kicked by a boss. You'd never guess who it was. You'd think it'd be a fiend like Cagnazzo or Valvalis, but no, it's the stupid little Dark Elf with his Dragon Breath that does 300 damage to all my chars, who only have 1000 life. Even funnier is the way I beat him: I cast Haste on Tellah! Tellah of all people! Why? Because he had Cure3.*4* Anyways, I'm going to go work on Tutorial #7 now. After I finish Tutorial #9 (which is the last one in the series), I'll go renovate my website. I promise. Dice Roll of the Day: (5, 5) Total: 10 Ah, I bid thee Good Night! Wednesday, August 17, 2005--Happy Birthday to Nadia! Anyways, this morning, my mother brought Franklin to the oral surgeon to get his wisdom teeth pulled and me to the dentist to have my teeth cleaned. So all in all, it was a very toothy morning. While I was at the oral surgeons, I picked up the Aug 8 (?), 2005 issue of Time magazine, which had a special on 13-year-olds, and one of the sections mentioned Xanga. WTS?!? On an unrelated note, it's official. If I moved to Washington and never came back, would you miss me? Anyways, other than that, I've been working on Dark Fiends and tying up other loose ends. Dice Roll of the Day: (3, 5) Total: 8 So, this Night, it be most Good, most Good indeed. Tuesday, August 16, 2005 - Addendum--I'm tired of searching. Please, let this be the one. Tuesday, August 16, 2005--Let's see... I'm trying to remember what I did today, even though I actually wrote this entry today, so it should be fresh in my mind. I woke up. I updated my journal. I had lunch. I worked on Dark Fiends. I had dinner. I came online. Wow, that was a boring day. Dice Roll of the Day: (3, 4) Total: 7 It might have been a boring day, but it was also definitely a Good Night! Monday, August 15, 2005--Today, I bought a joystick (the Logitech Extreme 3D) so I could play Combat Flight Sim. The problem with Combat Flight Sim is that it's too realistic. I'm having problems just learning how to fly the damn thing, let alone shoot down my enemies. I much prefer a more fantasy flier, like TIE Fighter. Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 6) Total: 10 Also, I know that this journal section has gotten a little big (> my personal 100k limit), but I'll fix it later. Anyhow, Good Night! Sunday, August 14, 2005--Today was a combination of me running maintenance on my computer, me playing Diablo 2 and making raids on the uber-bosses (more on that later), and me playing FF4 (hardtype, supposedly). (I had gotten FFChronicles for myself for my birthday.) Anyways, the uber bosses: So Justin was able to collect 2 sets of keys, so we used them to open a portal. The first one took us to Uber Izual, which we fought and killed quite easily (thanks to the Life Tap on Dracul's Grasp). The second set of keys took us to another fight against Uber Duriel. Once again, thanks to Dracul's Grasp's Life Tap, we killed him, except it was way easier this time. I also learned something new. Never use the Life Tap charges on Marrowalk, because every time you do, you get killed. Just let Dracul's Grasp kick in instead. So there we have it. Also, since Justin did a run against Uber Izual earlier this week, he also had a second Mephisto's Brain, so we had 2 Brains and 2 Eyes, but we needed Diablo's Horn. Fortunately, Justin, with his mad trading skillz, was able to trade off the 2 spare body parts for some runes, then traded those runes for Diablo's Horn. So then, we opened the portal to Chaotic Tristram, where we fought the 3 Brothers in Uber form. Unfortunately, we got our ass kicked, so Justin recruited some help from a Paladin Smiter who, once we cleared the minions guarding the portal, killed all 3 Brothers for us. I got this Standard of Heroes as a reward. Granted, it doesn't actually do anything, but it's a nice souvenir. Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 3) Total: 7 That's all there is today. Good Night! Saturday, August 13, 2005--Happy 20th Birthday to me!!! On this day: In 2004: "Holy shit! I have negative one of nothing!" So today, I woke up, got on the taxi, and rode out to the airport, where I waited around for about 3 hours. (Matt wanted to leave as soon as possible, so we arrived at 9am when my flight was at noon.) Good thing I had bought that MP3 player earlier this summer. So at 2:20pm, my plane touches down in San Jose. Hurray! I'm home! Apparently, my Aunt had bought me an MP3 player. A Creative Muvo like the one I had bought, except this one had 512MB of disk space, so I can fight twice as many songs (even though I'd be hard pressed to find more songs I'd listen to). So at 5pm, Justin arrives with Ryan and Mark. 20 minutes later, Vivian and Jasmine arrive (because they got lost). People who didn't come to my birthday party: Alex (disappeared off the face of the earth); Abhishek (couldn't make it); Alan (booted from the SSS and/or would rather be playing WoW, I'm not exactly sure which, or both); Tracy (invitation rescinded); Nadia (not in San Jose). Wow, that was a pretty bad turnout. Although it was better than last year. This year, though, I had infinitely times as many girls showing up at my party, which is always a good thing. So we went to Taste of China for dinner, where I suggested that we order 2 of every animal. (Vivian: Uh, that's kind of a lot of food. Jasmine: I think we should order some vegetables.) Unfortuntely, the girls had to leave early because they needed to by torches. Funny story. Due to some miscommunication (or possibly done on purpose, because Jasmine's like that), Jasmine's mom would be holding a party tonight, the same night as my birthday. So Jasmine and Vivian were sucked away into that party. Vivian: We have to go now. See you at Jasmine's place. You... are coming to Jasmine's place, are you? Me: I dunno. *looks at the gang* How about this? We'll decide later, and I'll call you and let you know. Vivian: Okay. I'm 99% sure that that was not an invitation, but somehow, we still decided to crash Jasmine's party anyway. Once there, we ended up playing poker, watching an NFL football game, and hijacking Jasmine's Super Nintendo to play Street Fighter 2. Jasmine's mom: Hey, that thing works? I thought it was broken. Justin: It was. We also played with Jasmine's torches briefly. Me: *sets a napkin on fire* Justin: Dude, put it out! Friends don't let friends light themselves on fire. We also had the cake that I bought, with two candles (because we didn't feel like lighting 20). Me: It sounds like you and Jasmine knew what I wished for. Vivian: I dunno. I think we were talking about something else. I don't remember anymore ><. Me: Ah, it doesn't matter. If you already know, then you already know. If you don't know, it'd be unwise for me to bring it up. What matters is... Chocolate cake is delicious. Vivian: Haha, yes it is. Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 1) Total: 7 Man, what a long day. Good Night! Friday, August 12, 2005--Last day at Microsoft... So to celebrate my last day, Weiye (my mentor), Jackie (my (and Chao's) PM), Matt (my tester), Chao (my officemate who also ends today), and Suresh (Chao's mentor) (Chao's tester couldn't make it) went to Todai for lunch. It was a good lunch. I'll miss these people. I should e-mail these guys eventually with my Berkeley e-mail, huh? After lunch, Weiye said I didn't need to do any more work, since I'm done for the summer. However, there were a few bugs that were bothering me, so I spent until 5:30pm fixing them. Then, I said good bye to everyone and went home from work for the last time this summer. Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 3) Total: 7 The rest of tonight was finishing packing and watching TV for several hours. We (Matt and I) also hit up Maple Garden for the very last time. Ah, it was a Good Night! Thursday, August 11, 2005--Today was an unmemorable day that was caught between 2 memorable ones. On this day: In 2003: Convo with me and Lei about how girls with boyfriends are more flirtatious... Also, Matt took down the internet today, so I just played Rise of Nations. Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 3) Total: 7 Once again, I say, "Good Night!" Wednesday, August 10, 2005--So today, my officemates and I went to a Sushi Lunch as to commemorate our summer. Except Sushi was changed to Red Robin. And Lunch was changed to Dinner. So we had a Sushi Lunch at Red Robin for dinner. While we were there, the guys (while I was making a trip to the bathroom) told them it was my birthday, so the Red Robin people came out singing happy birthday and bringing me a sundae. I would have enjoyed the sunday, except that I had filled myself on the bottomless fries. They're damn good fries. And you get unlimited fries free with the order of a burger. Dice Roll of the Day: (3, 5) Total: 8 I should end my journal entries with something different than "Anyways, Good Night!" Tuesday, August 9, 2005--This is another day that I don't really remember. On this day: In 2003: I play my first MTG booster draft, at Hedayati's place. Anyways, today, I played Rise of Nations. It's a pretty good game. The problem is that there aren't any single player campaigns, so it's mostly about multiplayer (and practicing against the computer). Still, it's a good game. Dice Roll of the Day: (3, 3) Total: 6 Anyways, Good Night! Monday, August 8, 2005--I don't know why, but this entry wasn't posted until August 16, more than a week from the day it was actually posted. Oh, well. Can't be too big of a problem. Except that I don't remember what happened. Other than it being my last week at Microsoft. I'm going to miss the place. Dice Roll of the Day: (5, 2) Total: 7 Oh, wait. I remember what happened, now. I went to the company store today and bought a fuckload of games, including Halo for the PC, Rise of Nations (and expansion), and Combat Flight Simulator 3. So I played Halo today. Awesome game. Awesome game indeed. Anyways, Good Night! Sunday, August 7, 2005--The portal opened today! Justin and I were playing Diablo 2, so Justin transmutes his 3 keys. He gets a random portal to the Forgotten Sands, where we'd be facing Uber Duriel. We battle him, his sorceress Shalis (level 82) and my druid SiniticWulf (level 78). After some chaotic battle, during which Shalis gets killed once, we finally manage to clear a field of all monsters, and then we start fighting Duriel proper. "Looking for Baal?" So then, we're fighting him, and I'm chugging Full Rejuvenation potions like mad. Then, finally, Justin decides to bring in his assassin InkEyes (level 83), and using her, we finally defeat Uber Duriel for good. We received Baal's Eye, which is 1/3 of the puzzle that we need to battling the 3 Brothers in Chaotic Tristram. So there we have it. Two people take down Uber Duriel. The Ladder resets on Monday. Hopefully, we can still fight the optional uber bosses in non-ladder. We'll also have access to Carise's stash of stuff once it happens. Dice Roll of the Day: (1, 4) Total: 5 Good Night! Saturday, August 6, 2005--Today was basically preparing for my presentation on Tuesday and playing Diablo 2. I finally hit level 75. Man, after level 70, levelling was so slow. Dice Roll of the Day: (2, 1) Total: 3 Good Night! Friday, August 5, 2005--For some of the interns here at Microsoft, it's their last day. So, we gave them a send off. Also, my officemate Dan (who was the only person in our office who was leaving today) showed me the screenshots for the procedurally generated MMORPG he's creating. Those are some pretty damn good screenshots. He has more ambition than me when it comes to game programming. Dice Roll of the Day: (1, 4) Total: 5 Good Night! Thursday, August 4, 2005--There's not a whole lot to say about today. It just wasn't memorable at all. And it hasn't been in the past. However, a very memorable day is coming up. Dice Roll of the Day: (3, 6) Total: 9 Anyways, Good Night! Wednesday, August 3, 2005--Oh frabjous day! Callooh! Callay! I made another check-in to the Source Depot. Yet another piece of my code is now a part of SharePoint. I was so happy that I went home early to celebrate. Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 3) Total: 7 Good Night! Tuesday, August 2, 2005--Today was a really long day. Thankfully, I got a lot of work done today, so it all works out. On this day: In 2004: I beat Golden Sun 2. Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 6) Total: 12 Good Night! Monday, August 1, 2005--Shortened day of work, because I was bottlenecked. Oh, well. Dice Roll of the Day: (5, 4) Total: 9 Good Night! Sunday, July 31, 2005--Hurray! I have MP3s now! Made by me! If you want a sample, IM me at Viltris or e-mail me at djeng64@yahoo.com. On this day: In 2003: I get my wisdom teeth pulled. Ow! Man, the hot weather today is making me really, really lethargic today. I don't feel like doing anything at all! Ooh, Family Guy is on! Dice Roll of the Day: (3, 3) Total: 6 Also, I've gotten bored with Star Kingdoms and Earth 2025. Anyways, Good Night! Saturday, July 30, 2005--Yesterday, I had forgotten my cell phone at work, so I stopped by my office on my way to linner (that's lunch/dinner, for those of you who don't know), and to my surprise, Tom, Chao, Owen, Sean, Alexis (and maybe some others) were in the office. And they changed the background image on my phone. Heh. Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 5) Total: 11 Also, I found some software to convert MIDIs to MP3s, so now I can make MP3s! Yay! First, to make some quality MIDIs. (Hey, don't laugh, you spoiled New Age children.) Anyways, Good Night! Friday, July 29, 2005--Pay Day! Actually, Pay Day is on Sunday, but since there's no work on Sunday, they paid us today. Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 4) Total: 8 All in all a good day. I finished early, so I came home early. Anyways, Good Night! Thursday, July 28, 2005--Good day of work today. I would have come home early, but my officemate Dan wanted me to play against his Chess AI. I was doing well at the beginning until I made a single play mistake, and from there, the rAI started tearing me apart. Needless to say, I lost. Dice Roll of the Day: (5, 2) Total: 7 Good Night, all! Wednesday, July 27, 2005--I've finally caught up with my Journal entries. Now, you can read all about my life in the last 2 weeks. (It'll probably end up to be boring. If that's the case, forgive me, and why are you reading my Journal if it's boring, anyways? It's always boring. Except when it's not. Like when Diana says "I concur", and then I flip out. That's when it's not boring. We need more incidences like that.) Dice Roll of the Day: (3, 6) Total: 9 Good Night! Tuesday, July 26, 2005--Oh frabjous day! Callooh! Callay! I finally checked in my code into the source depot, so my feature is now officially part of SharePoint. I was so happy, I went home early to celebrate. And back at home, I decided to celebrate by playing Star Ocean 3. Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 6) Total: 12 Good Night! Monday, July 25, 2005--Today, I had my interviews for my full time position at Microsoft. The HR interview seemed to go fine. It sounded more like a self-evaluation of my experience at Microsoft than anything else. Then, I had the interview with my Dev Manager. It's kind of funny. I've already interviewed him before, and we've worked together, so the interview was more of a formality. Nevertheless, he needed something, in case I ever wanted to transfer to another team. (I eventually intend to get to Bungie or Microsoft Game Studios.) Of course, ultimately, it'll depend on my Final Review, which, based on my Midpoint Review, should be simply fantastic. Speaking of which, it's time for a new poll on my website... maybe... Dice Roll of the Day: (1, 2) Total: 3 Andy (imitating Diana): I concur! Me: I conquer! Teammate (most likely Chris): Icon Door! Good Night! Saturday, July 23 - Sunday, July 24, 2005--I went to play The Intern Game with me and my team. We were called the Orange team, because Oranges are tasty. Members of the team included me, Jeff, Chris, Peter, Jon, Alex, Andy, and last (but not least) Diana. Diana: I concur. Me: STOP CONCURRING! (It was her catchphrase.) Anyways, we did pretty well. By the wall clock, we were dead last, 3 hours behind the first team to finish. However, toward the beginning, we were near the front of the pack, so we were the first to do the County Plaques puzzle, which we spent 4 hours on and didn't solve. On this day (July 23): In 2003: I had the ninja school dream in which Lizzie says "Oh great, now I'm stuck with Dwayne." Teresa: I hope your team wins first place. Me: I doubt that. Some other team did the County Plaques puzzle and actually solved it. Teresa: Yeah. Gold Team. I heard they got disqualified. Me: Really? Teresa: Yeah. I hope your team wins first place. Me: Thank you. I hope your team wins second place. And that was basically it for my weekend. Dice Roll of the Day: (2, 2) Total: 4 Good Night! Friday, July 22, 2005--Another awesome yet crappy day today. I was just happy that it was Friday, so I went home early. On this day: In 2004: Dice Roll of the Day: (1, 6) Total: 7 Good Night! Thursday, July 21, 2005--Today, after work, I went to SafeWay, where they were selling Harry Potter Book 6 for $18. Wow. Of all places, who would have thought SafeWay? On this day: In 2004: I beat Golden Sun. Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 3) Total: 7 Good Night! Wednesday, July 20, 2005--Crappy day of work today. Stuff breaks through no fault of your own, and you lose a few days of work. Yeah... Dice Roll of the Day: (3, 5) Total: 8 Luckily, I had a backup plan. Good Night! Tuesday, July 19, 2005--Still sick... still did work. Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 1) Total: 7 Actually, I'm "recovering from a cold". I've been "recovering" since Sunday, when I said I was, because I was. Good Night! Monday, July 18, 2005--I was still sick, but I decided to go to work, because I'm cool like that. I also got a lot of work done. Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 3) Total: 7 Good Night! Sunday, July 17, 2005--I was still sick today, so I stayed in. I tried to play a bit of Star Ocean, but I had a headache and couldn't think, so there went that. Dice Roll of the Day: (1, 4) Total: 5 Good Night! Saturday, July 16, 2005--(This entry was written on July 27.) Matt's mom visited, so he was out of the apartment for the weekend. So, I decided to go get some lunch a Maple Garden with Chao. Then, we went to the Intern Poker game, which was played with chips (not real money), and had prizes. I didn't do very well. Later, I returned XenoSaga2 and borrowed Star Ocean 3 from Chao. It's an all right game, except that I fell sick. D'oh! Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 2) Total: 6 Good Night! Friday, July 15, 2005--Pay Day! w00t! Anyways, I got out of work today at 7:30pm. I would have gotten out at 6:30, but I had decided to go play Halo 2 with a bunch of guys. Apparently, in the room, there were 2 veterans and 6 newbies. (I'm one of the newbies.) So after the two veterans leave (and 2 of the newbies, leaving 4 of us), we play one last game, where I pwned with mad Plasma Grenade skills. Man, those Plasma Grenades are a godsend. Dice Roll of the Day: (1, 4) Total: 5 Anyways, Good Night! Thursday, July 14, 2005--Today was a day of work. There's not much more to mention. Dice Roll of the Day: (3, 6) Total: 9 Anyways, Good Night! Wednesday, July 13, 2005--Today, after work, I went to a BBQ dinner party at Bill Gates' place. It was awesome. The house was huge and really fancy. Hell, even the bathrooms were fancy. Also, at one point, Bill is chatting with a bunch of the interns, and naturally, there's a huge crowd around him. Then, he says he needs to go give a speech, so the crowd disperses to let him move. At that moment, my officemate Dan marches right up to him and asks for a handshake, so Bill shakes his hand. That was impressive. I wish I had thought of that. Dan: Well, hey, it's Bill Gates! Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 2) Total: 6 Good Night! Tuesday, July 12, 2005--Good day of work today. I got a lot of stuff done. Dice Roll of the Day: (5, 6) Total: 11 Anyways, Good Night! Monday, July 11, 2005--I worked late today. I didn't mean to. It just kinda happened. Because I wanted to get a lot of progress today. On this day: In 2004: In 2003: Hilarious math team meeting. It'll take a bit of strategy to get what I want now... Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 5) Total: 11 Good Night! Sunday, July 10, 2005--Today was, interestingly enough, half memorable, half not memorable. Mostly not memorable, though, because I don't remember much of it, even though it was only 24 hours ago. On this day: In 2004: Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 2) Total: 6 Good Night! Saturday, July 9, 2005--Today, I went to the PuzzleDay 2005. It's a puzzle contest for Microsoft Interns, and it was pretty crazy. Our team didn't win, unfortunately. Oh, well. Better luck next time. Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 1) Total: 7 Also, I watched 12 Monkeys today. It's a pretty good movie. Crazy little time paradoces, though. Good Night! Friday, July 8, 2005-- On this day: In 2004: NOT IN SERVICE Today, I meant to come home early form work, but shit happens. Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 6) Total: 10 Good Night! Thursday, July 7, 2005--After this entry, I will be caught up with my journal postings... for now... On this day: In 2003: I come home from Japan. More work, but I'm being productive... I think... Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 3) Total: 9 Good Night! Wednesday, July 6, 2005--More work. Dice Roll of the Day: (5, 5) Total: 10 Good Night! Tuesday, July 5, 2005--Hi Ho! Hi Ho! It's back to work I go! Dice Roll of the Day: (5, 4) Total: 9 I also played my first ever Champions-Betrayers-Saviors MTG draft. Apparently, there's a really, really, really casual club here. Good Night! Monday, July 4, 2005--Happy Independence Day!!! Whee! Unfortunately, I was in Canada until midnight, so I spent all of our nation's birthday in another nation. Oops. Dice Roll of the Day: (3, 2) Total: 5 Good Night! Sunday, July 3, 2005--Today, my family took me up to Vancouver. It was a long, long, long drive. We stayed at some family friend's house. They had a daughter named Vivian Tseng, which is like a combination of Vivian Chu and Jasmine Tseng. It was amusing. She's also a music major. Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 6) Total: 10 Good Night! Saturday, July 2, 2005--(This post was posted several days late... on July 7, in fact!) On this day: In 2004: A slew of hilarious conversations: Dad: [says something about getting something in Chinese, which I misunderstand] Me: What? Flamethrower? Dad: No, hairthinner. Franklin: Oh, yeah, that's a good idea. Thin your hair with a flamethrower. Me: [discarding a scam letter] I do with these things what I do with junk mail. Franklin: You mean burn them? Me: Dude, no! Dad: If it's a letter-bomb, you just detonated it. Franklin: Don't worry, just use a hairthinner. Me: *walks in from backyard* Rosebush is dead. Dad: What? Really? Me: Yeah... Well, at least no roses are growing on it, and there are barely any leaves. Dad: Oh, I thought you said George Bush is dead. Anyways, my family shows up for a visit. It was awesome. They decided to stay over night. Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 1) Total: 5 Good Night! Friday, July 1, 2005--Highly productive day of work today. I think I'm in debug mode now. Dice Roll of the Day: (1, 1) Total: 2 Good Night! Thursday, June 30, 2005--Pay Day! w00t! Dice Roll of the Day: (5, 3) Total: 8 Good Night, my dear! Wednesday, June 29, 2005--Hyper-productive day of work today! Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 2) Total: 6 Good Night! Tuesday, June 28, 2005--Today, the high school interns moved in: Kat, Owen, and Ngoc. They're really young. After work, I went fencing. Dice Roll of the Day: (2, 1) Total: 3 Good Night! Monday, June 27, 2005--Really really really really really really productive day of work! Dice Roll of the Day: (2, 6) Total: 8 Today, I went to lunch with the fencers to a place called Dixie's BBQ, where I met The Man. The Man is this really really hot sauce. The residue of the stuff burns like hell. I never knew the west had something this spicy. I mean, people always talk about how Wasabi burns like hell (although in a different way), but Wasabi's got nothing on The Man. If you're ever in Redmond/Bellevue, you should visit Dixie's and meet The Man. It's an experience you'll never forget. I guarantee it.</mens-warehouse-commercial-guy-like> Anyways, Good Night! Sunday, June 26, 2005--Today... I went to Crossroads shopping center, and I saw Stargate on DVD. It's a decent movie. Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 3) Total: 7 Oh, and I put up a new chapter of Dark Fiends and a new poll. I have work tomorrow, so I bid you Good Night! Saturday, June 25, 2005--This morning, Matt and I played frisbee and tennis in the morning. On this day: In 2003: The SJYS Japan Tour begins In the evening, after dinner at Taco Bell, I went and bought new earphones: the Sony MDR-J10. It's an in-ear earphones that clip onto the outside of your ear. Good sound quality. They stay on my ear no matter how hard I shake my head. There's just one downside: sound leakage. It's not as bad as my old headphones, but it's still there. So now that I have two headphones, I get to choose between having less sound leakage or having the earphones stay on better. More often than not, I'll pick the latter. Dice Roll of the Day: (1, 3) Total: 4 Good Night! Friday, June 24, 2005--This week was a very productive week at work. I am content. Dice Roll of the Day: (3, 6) Total: 9 The SJYS are in Spain now. It reminds me of Japan two years ago. Zzz... Huh? What? Oh. Good Night! Thursday, June 23, 2005--My wrist has almost healed completely. In most cases, it's just like I had no injury at all, unless I move it a certain way. And it turns out that one way that I move it is the same way I move it to make a saber cut. Therefore, I was unable to go fencing today. On this day: In 2004: Viltris: k, plan B Viltris: i can poke you Viltris: *poke*poke* [Kim]: eh...not very nice plan...i don't like getting poked [Kim]: *stab* Ah, I'm finally up to date with all my webjournal updates. Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 4) Total: 8 Good Night! Wednesday, June 22, 2005--My wrist is slightly better. After a full day, I can now start moving it again. It's only when I move it too fast or too far or put strain on it that it hurts. Dice Roll of the Day: (2, 1) Total: 3 Good Night! Tuesday, June 21, 2005--After work today, I went fencing. During my last bout, I made a bad 5 parry. Then, to make matters worse, I put force into it, forced my opponent's blade aside, and forced my way down for the riposte. I got the touch, but I felt it in my wrist immediately. I think I sprained it or some other strain-related injury. On this day: In 2004: Lei says "Eh?" over AIM Dice Roll of the Day: (1, 1) Total: 2 Good Night! Monday, June 20, 2005-- On this day: In 2004: I beat XenoSaga... and give it a bad review... because it sucks! I'm beginning my transition to XHTML, starting now. Dice Roll of the Day: (1, 1) Total: 2 Good Night! Sunday, June 19, 2005--Today is not memorable. On this day: In 2004: I buy my first saber. Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 6) Total: 12 Good Night! Saturday, June 18, 2005--Today, I played more MGS3. I ended up beating it at, like 4am. My thoughts are below in spoiler text, as quoted from my post at Avalanche Online. *MGS3*MGS3 was such an awesome game. I just wish I didn't suck so bad. I started playing in Easy mode, but I couldn't pass the Virtuous Mission, because I sucked. (It's not MY fault I got addicted to the radar.) So I beat the game in Very Easy mode. GAMEPLAY: Simply fantastic. The whole jungle/camouflage thing was a twist on the Metal Gear series, 'cause I'm used to sneaking around hallways and buildings. Now, I find myself crawling through grass and trying to match colors that don't even get me past 50%. Oh, and I have this great story. So after the battle against The Pain, I decide to go fishing in the river. And by fishing I mean dropping a grenade. 10 boxes of fish show up, and I'm like HOLY SHIT that's a lot of fish. Unfortunately, the hoverguards heard me, so they went into Caution mode, so I grabbed the fish and ran. Good stuff. STORY: This is where MGS3 REALLY shines. Maybe I'm just a sucker for well-made prequels, but I thought this game was REALLY well done. There were two scenes that really stood out for me. The first was Big Boss losing his eye. (Because seriously, who here hasn't scene the sketch of Big Boss with an eyepatch in the MGS1 instruction booklet. Oh come on, I know you guys have looked at the MGS1 instruction booklet. It's impossible to beat the game without some information from the game's original packaging.) The other great scene was the ending, when Big Boss learns the truth about The Boss. It's really ironic when Johnson says to Big Boss, "You are greater than The Boss. Therefore, I give you the title Big Boss," when in fact, Big Boss knows that The Boss was truly the greater one. And he goes to her grave and salutes her, and if you watch closely, he sheds a tear. It was a truly well done scene. And now we know why Solid Snake had to fight Big Boss. It was for the same reason Big Boss had to fight The Boss and The Boss had to fight The Sorrow. And who could forget the young Ocelot. Just as badass as the Ocelot we know, except more naive. And it turns out Big Boss picked the Revolver for him. I dunno about the rest of you guys, but I thought Ocelot was more awesome than the Big Boss himself. OVERALL: This game was way better than MGS2 and is almost better than MGS1. Almost. The one problem with MGS3 is that it only developed 3 characters (well, 3.5 if you count Eva), whereas MGS1 developed all of them, and most of them were pretty deep. (It kinda sucks how Otacon keeps losing the women he cares for, huh?) But it was still tremendously well done. Anyways, if you liked MGS1 and/or MGS2, you'll love MGS3. However, I highly recommend you play MGS1 and MGS2 first because MGS3 contains so many forward references.*MGS3* In conclusion, MGS3 had good gameplay and even better storyline, but I highly recommend you play MGS1 and MGS2 first. On this day: In 2004: Alan: Heh, that's what I said when the lady came to refill our drinks, and she refilled Ryan's drink all the way, but she only refilled mine just a little bit. Lucky for her, she came back later and filled up my drink all the way. Heh, for the first time, I used the closing li tags and the ul tags, and it turned out even worst. Bah, stupid ul tags. Dice Roll of the Day: (3, 3) Total: 6 Good Night! Friday, June 17, 2005--I meant to get off work early today so that I could play video games. However, for some reason, I ended up working until about 8:30pm. Then, I came home to play MGS3, which is an awesome game. Dice Roll of the Day: (3, 6) Total: 9 Good Night! Thursday, June 16, 2005--(This entry was produced a week late.) Dice Roll of the Day: (3, 5) Total: 8 Good Night! Wednesday, June 15, 2005--Pay Day! (not the candy bar) I just got my first pay check. Er, the first corporate paycheck. (Tutoring doesn't count.) So... yay! I have money! On this day: In 2004: New style dice roll! In 2003: Lizzie decides to talk to me for once. Today, the Sophomores are graduating. Congrats to them! Dice Roll of the Day: (5, 6) Total: 11 Good Night! Tuesday, June 14, 2005--Productive day. Glorious day. Glorious, glorious day. Hey, it was Tuesday, and it wasn't that bad. Over AIM... me: and college will be new and exciting for you me: except that all your friends will be there me: all your friends and me vivchu: haha vivchu: silly, you're a friend, too =p Dice Roll of the Day: (1, 3) Total: 4 Good Night! Monday, June 13, 2005--Today, I met some interns in our new office. It was pretty awesome. Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 6) Total: 10 Good Night! Sunday, June 12, 2005--So today, Matt and I decided to play tennis, except that court was flooded, making it difficult to play. Then, I beat Xenosaga 2. Time: 27 hours 18 minutes Level: Level 39-43 My thoughts: OVERALL XS2 was a lot better than XS1. The combat a bit deeper this time around, and Magic (Ethers in the game) were actually not useless this time (mainly because there's a skill that regenerates your EP). Also, the Mechs actually mattered this time, unlike in XS1, although it still wasn't done quite as well as in Xenogears. However, the game was over-simplified in some aspects and the characters were too similar combat-wise. I mean, you're given 7 characters, which can be grouped into Warriors, Casters, and Balanced. That and, they learn all the exact same skills. I mean, there were some characters that I thought "What's the point?" The only reason why I put Jin in my main party was because he was cooler than Chaos or Rubedo. In a real RPG, that shouldn't be a reason why you put a certain character in your party. Also, the mini-games were gone. Damn. I liked mini-games. And money and shops and most equipment were gone. WTF?!? As to length, as we can see by my time, XS2 is stupidly short. They gave me 2 DVDs, so I expected it would be twice as long as XS1, but no, it's actually the same length. (In truth, the only reason why my time for XS1 is longer is because I spent more time playing mini-games and leveling up (because I tried to sneak by the enemies rather than fighting them) which probably bumped me up by an extra 13 hours.) I'm very disappointed how short and undeveloped this game was. STORYLINE Better than XS1, but not that great. On the storyline scale, I'd say it's slightly above average. FFTactics and Xenogears surpass it by an order of magnitude, but then again, FFT and Xenogears are pretty much the best that RPGs have to offer in terms of storyline, so it'd be an unfair comparison. That and it was too short. For a series devoted entirely to storyline, the story seems a little... crappy. SOUNDTRACK Awesome soundtrack. I dunno how they managed to pull it off, but the soundtrack has improved dramatically and is almost FF quality. (Apparently, Yasunori Mitsuda--one of the best video game composers of all time, up there with Uematsu--composed the soundtrack for XS1, but was pissed off when they used it improperly, which is why the soundtrack for XS1 was so bad.) It's a different style than either Mitsuda or Uematsu, so I can't really compare (it's very techno). Unfortunately, only the battle music and boss fight music are memorable. In conclusion, XS2 is a better game than XS1, but still a bad game. Good movie, though. Dice Roll of the Day: (5, 4) Total: 9 Good Night! Saturday, June 11, 2005--Today was mostly playing Xenosaga 2, but it was also cooking spaghetti. Yay, spaghetti! I also played Yahoo! Pool with VivChu and Yahoo! Literati with VivChu and Mishra. Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 2) Total: 8 Good Night! Friday, June 10, 2005--Yay, Friday! Today seemed quite productive. Then, I moved into my new office because the Internet in my old office was croaking. The new office is huge. It's supposed to hold 16 interns. Hopefully, they move in soon because I feel like meeting new people. I wonder if there will be any cute girls amongst them. Then, I played lots of Xenosaga 2. Dice Roll of the Day: (3, 6) Total: 9 Good Night! Thursday, June 9, 2005--I think today was productive, but I don't remember anymore. I also remember having a dream last night that involved Franklin running around in the middle of the rain and looking for something, and Deanne shows up and she's found the thing. But WTF, Deanne?!? Anyways, today at Fencing, I learned that I'm too tense when I fence, which is also why I use up my energy so fast. Apparently, if I just relax, I'll attack faster, better, and use up less energy. Dice Roll of the Day: (1, 6) Total: 7 Good Night! Wednesday, June 8, 2005--Today, I had a very productive day at work. w00t! On this day: In 2004: [Lizzie]: hey Viltris: i was thinking about left-handed girls a while back Viltris: only about 1 in 10 people are left-handed Viltris: and only 1/2 the people on this world are girls Viltris: so only 1 in 20 people is a left-handed girl Viltris: and given any girl, there's probably a 1 in 50 chance that's she's cute Viltris: so overall, the chances of finding a cute left-handed girl is 1 in 1000 Viltris: and look, i found you! Viltris: what are the odds of that? [Lizzie]: HAha [Lizzie]: you're funny So I went to dinner with Chao and his college buddies Wong and Feng. Then, we went to Safeway and bought some much needed milk and orange juice. Dice Roll of Day: (3, 6) Total: 9 Good Night! Tuesday, June 7, 2005--Today, I had originally planned to go fencing, but Paul couldn't go because he was too sore, so I ended up skipping fencing in favor of working. Dice Roll of the Day: (2, 3) Total: 5 Good Night! Monday, June 6, 2005--An unproductive day at work, so I stayed until 9pm. On this day: In 2004: Viltris: hey jen Viltris: you know what i think we should do? Viltris: gather up all the peoples from the 6th floor and hang out Viltris: well... maybe not all of them Viltris: just the cool ones Viltris: and me [jen]: haha [jen]: you're not cool dwayne? Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 2) Total: 8 Good Night! Sunday, June 5, 2005--Hapy Birthday to Tracy! Why am I saying Happy Birthday to Tracy? Anyways, so I was playing more Xenosaga 2 today. *XS2*It turns out that I finished Disc 1 last night. It was 10 hours. 10 fucking hours! Jesus Christ, and I thought this game was going to be good. Then, I find out that it's already half done and that I only spent 10 hours on it. I mean, 10 hours in and of itself isn't that bad. FF4 was only 20 hours. The difference is, FF4 is 20 hours of gameplay. Xenosaga 2 Disc 1 is about 5 hours of storyline and 5 hours of gameply. So there we go, Xenosaga needs to be twice as long in order to get the same amount of gameplay. But wait! Even then, it still feels like a really short game, because we have to wait through such excruciatingly boring story scenes, so it seems like there's even less gameplay. The other reason why Xenosaga 2 feels excruciatingly short is that there are very few dungeons and very few bosses. A game always feels longer if there are more dungeons and more bosses. Fuck, Super Metroid was only 5 hours, but it felt longer because it had more areas and more bosses.*XS2* Long story short, I'm really pissed off at Xenosaga 2 because it's 2 DVD game that's shorter than a 1 CD game. Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 3) Total: 9 Good Night! Saturday, June 4, 2005--I spent most of the day playing Xenosaga 2. The game seems pretty promising. I've played about 10 hours and it has long dungeons. And the combat is also pretty good, too, what with the Breaks and Air and Down. It seems pretty promising. On this day: In 2003: "Anyways, lately I've been thinking of cute left-handed girls. You know, 1 in 10 people are left-handed, and 1/2 of all people are girls, so 1 in every 20 people is a left-handed girl. Add in that any given girl has a 1 in 50 chance of being cute, so overall, there's a 1 in 1000 chance that any given person is a cute left-handed girl. ... Lucky for me, I know quite a few." I'm also playing Star Kingdoms, and Matt showed me Earth 2025, which is intuitive, but a lot more complex that Star Kingdoms. In fact, Star Kingdoms has almost no strategy diversity, whereas Earth 2025 is very diverse. (Interestingly enough, I was one of the first people to use Tactical Fighters when they first added those into the game. Clearly, a 16/0 is better than a 9/9, because you can't be on both defense and offense at the same time. That and, Tanks are just so damn costly... Dice Roll of the Day: (5, 3) Total: 8 Good Night! Friday, June 3, 2005--Yet another day of work. On this day: In 2004: I beat FFTA. Also, I played a bit of Xenosaga 2. One thing that jumps out almost immediately is how the voice-acting has dropped in quality since Xenosaga 1. Hehe... oops! Then, we played Dark Alliance 2 and beat the game. Apparently, it's really easy with the Necromancer's Haste spell and the Barbarian just beating the shit out of everything... super fast, of course! Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 6) Total: 12 Good Night! Thursday, June 2, 2005--After work today, I went fencing again. It turned out that I was never taught to lunge correctly (ie, I used to lunge with my front foot; I'm supposed to lunge with my back foot). After Wang taught me how to lunge correctly, it extended my lunge range by about a foot. Awesome! On this day: In 2003: Justin: What? You couldn't find your penis? Me: I couldn't find my keys! What? Are you death or something? Justin: What? Am I death? Me: I said deaf, not death. Justin: Oh, my bad. Me: Naw, I really said death. Just kidding with you, that's all. Also, Chao, my officemate loaned me Xenosaga 2. Dice Roll of the Day: (1, 4) Total: 5 Good Night! Wednesday, June 1, 2005--Uneventful day of work. Dice Roll of the Day: (5, 3) Total: 8 Good Night! Tuesday, May 31, 2005--Hi ho! Hi ho! It's back to work I go. On this day: In 2004: Albert: Yeah, I'm ordering a quesadilla. Amy: You know, you're about to have the exact same conversation again. Lei: They went to the washroom. Me: Is that what the call it in Canada? Lei: Eh? Me: Yeah, here in America, we call it a bathroom... or a restroom. Lei: Silly Americans. In 2003: Me: I was playing games with the other kids downstairs. What did you think I was doing? Linda: Oh, right, Joanna didn't go. So today, I decided to check out the info on Rain City (the closest fencing center), and I find that it's too far to walk and that the buses don't have a convenient route to it. So I send an e-mail asking around about it, and this Canadian Saber master tells me about Salle Auriol Seattle and how they have a world-class Saber coach (named Wang) and offers me a ride, so I decide, what the heck, I'll go. I arrive to find out that: #1, I'm way out of my league. #2, I have really bad form (a combination of being out of practice and having almost n private lessons). Fortunately, I got myself a deal for private lessons so that I can begin training. Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 3) Total: 7 Good Night! Monday, May 30, 2005--Today, I played MGS3. It's a damn hard game, mainly because you don't have radar. However, I found that a close substitute is the sonar, but you can't use it continuously (you press it to pulse it, and whenever you do, it uses battery power) and you can't use it when the enemies are too close to you (or else they'll hear it, although you could use the sound to lure enemies). That said, many things don't work at short range, like camouflage, and, um... something else. Without radar, the game is so hard, so I played on VERY EASY mode to get the EasyGun, which is very very useful. Maybe later I should play in Normal mode or Hard mode. I also played some of Baldur's Gate. I do so much damage now, it's not funny. Actually, it is. When the people die. On this day: In 2004: "Vivian! You left your pants downstairs!" In 2003: I discover at the ARML that Stephanie doesn't know how to play Chess. Dice Roll of the Day: (1, 3) Total: 4 Good Night! Sunday, May 29, 2005--Today, we bought MGS3 and Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2. Dark Alliance 2 was a pretty good game. It's like Gauntlet Legends, but darker and harder. Dice Roll of the Day: (5, 3) Total: 8 Why am I up so late? Good Night! Saturday, May 28, 2005--We tried to make french toast today, but we failed miserably, since we didn't have any oil or butter, so the toast started sticking to the pan and burning up, so we pulled it out of the pan. But I still ate that half-cooked piece of toast anyway, and it was better than most fully-cooked pieces of french toast I've had (namely, mine own). On this day: In 2003: Then, we went searching for an electronics/video game store and a sporting goods store while re-finding that Chinese Restaurant (Maple Garden) that I had found earlier and getting some groceries from Safeway. We failed miserably on the electronics and sporting goods, but at least we found a place (Wherehouse Music) that had video games. I also bought an MP3 player, although I think it's bad that I'm spending my money before I've even earned it yet. Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 6) Total: 12 w00t! Pocket 6's! I wonder when I get timed for my cell phone minutes. *shrig* Oh well, it's getting late. Good Night! Friday, May 27, 2005--Microsoft Day 4 On this day: In 2003: Linda (not giving me a look): What look? (gives me a look) Me: That look! Right there! Re: Albert's guestbook post. I'll update the poll when I'm not tired. Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 5) Total: 11 Today, we got the router, so both Matt and me can work on the Internet at the same time. Awesome. And Good Night! Thursday, May 26, 2005--Microsoft Day 3 Not much I can say... Dice Roll of the Day: (1, 6) Total: 7 ...except that we got Internet today! w00t! Unfortunately, it only has a connection for one computer and there are two of us, so we're going to need a router. Anyways, Good Night! Wednesday, May 25, 2005--Microsoft Day 2 On this day: In 2003: "Well, I have a girl who is a friend... I mean, I have a friend who is a girl. I don't have a girl." I had leftover fried rice from yesterday's Chinese food run. Heh. Dice Roll of the Day: (2, 1) Total: 3 Good Night! Tuesday, May 24, 2005--Microsoft Day 1 Apparently, in Seattle, a / is called a "whack" rather than a "slash". How amusing. We should go to "whackdot.com". On this day: In 2003: I buy FF Origins. Anyways, after work today, I decided to go exploring for a video game store. Instead, I found a Chinese Restaurant (called Maple Garden) which was pretty good... and then I got lost for an hour. Hehe... oops! Dice Roll of the Day: (3, 3) Total: 6 Good Night! Monday, May 23, 2005--Today, I flew to Seattle. It turns out that Kaisen from HKN was on the same flight as me, and he was living with Robert L, also from HKN, who was waiting with us at the baggage claim. So what the heck, we all took the same cab to Redmond together. On this day: In 2004: 5th Dawn Pre-release! w00t! In 2003: Ke: Come on, Dwayne, it's only 2 classes. It won't make a difference. Me: Yes, it's only 2 classes, so it won't make a difference if I ditch them. So I ran into my apartmentmate, a dude named Matt, who I had already talked to on AIM a whiles ago. He's an awesome dude and we went exploring Bellevue/Redmond. Dice Roll of the Day: (1, 1) Total: 2 Good Night! Sunday, May 22, 2005--Today, I was mostly packing for my airplane trip tomorrow to Seattle. However, I ended up spending a good part of the day playing Fire Emblem instead. Hehe... Dice Roll of the Day: (1, 1) Total: 2 Good Night! Unofficial Update (posted on May 22)--Just so you guys know I'm still alive... Tomorrow, I fly off to Redmond, and the day after, I begin my internship for Microsoft. Except a real update later. (NOTE: updates, starting from May 16, will be posted below in attempts to not break the flow of the page.) Saturday, May 21, 2005--Same as Friday... Dice Roll of the Day: (2, 3) Total: 5 Good Night! Friday, May 20, 2005--Another non-memorable day... since this entry (and all the ones since May 16) were posted on May 27, so I don't remember a damn thing. Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 5) Total: 11 Good Night! Thursday, May 19, 2005--I woke up this morning and my mom came and we had lunch with a family friend, and then I went home. Yay! On this day: In 2003: I've been playing a lot of Fire Emblem these days. It's a really, really, good game. Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 6) Total: 12 w00t! Double 6's! Good Night! Wednesday, May 18, 2005--EE121 Final... It was pretty easy. I now know how the people at E3 feel--rushing to make sure everything works at the last second and worrying about technical difficulties. Unfortunately, since we had the most complicated setup (a PlayStation 2 and a desktop for use as a NTSC to VGA converter), there were inevitably technical difficulties. Fortunately, our presentation was pretty good despite the difficulties. Also, the judges (dudes from Sony Computer Entertainment) had a PS2 network adaptor to give away (it was the last of the prizes), and they thought, what the hey, those PS2 guys sound like they could use it. So they gave it to us. Then, I watched Star Wars Episode III. It was awesome. I daresay it rivals Return of the Jedi in awesomeness. However, in order to fully appreciate Episode 3, you need to watch all of the other 5 episodes as well. Dice Roll of the Day: (1, 3) Total: 4 Good Night! Tuesday, May 17, 2005--I mostly slept... On this day: In 2003: ...but I also spent a little bit of time cleaning up CS184 and reviewing for EE121. Dice Roll of the Day: (1, 5) Total: 6 Good Night! Monday, May 16, 2005--Today, I made one last rush to finish up my CS184 project. I ended up staying at Mark S's place until 7am Tuesday, after which I walked home and slept for a long, long time. Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 2) Total: 6 Good Night! Sunday, May 15, 2005--Man, our CS184 project is so awesome. We have Mushroom men. Mushroom men! They're kinda freaky, though, and if our plans come to fruition, they'll be even freakier. It's addictive, though, fighting the Mushroom men. On this day: In 2004: In FF9, I change Zidane's name to Dwayne. Dwayne (Zidane in FF9): I'm always thinking about girls! Dwayne (the real me): Wow, that's pretty accurate. Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 5) Total: 9 More work on the Mushroom men. Good Night! Saturday, May 14, 2005--I spent the better part of today studying for the CS184 Finale, which was tricky because there was some stuff on the Final that I wasn't quite sure about. It was a knowledge-based final rather than a problem-solving-based final. We all know which kind I'm better at. I spent the lesser part of today working on CS184 Final Project. It's looking awesome. On this day: In 2004: I run into Lily at Berkeley. Dice Roll of the Day: (1, 2) Total: 3 Good Night! Friday the Thirteenth--How good is today, let me count the ways: 1. CS184 Project 2. Review for Econ 1 3. Econ 1 Finale... it was pretty easy 4. On this day: In 2003: 6. Good Night! Thursday, May 12, 2005-- On this day: In 2004: Daisy again I'm working hard to get features implemented for my CS184 project while studying the Econ 1 essay. I also went to the EE121 review session, which calmed my fears, because the problems we went over were easy and people asked relatively basic questions. I'll still do practice problems anyway, since those are always good. me: what is your summer job? her: heh.. i answer emails me: sounds like inverse spam her: yeah, practically Dice Roll of the Day: (1, 3) Total: 4 Good Night! Wednesday, May 11, 2005--Obviously, I forgot to mention that yesterday was the last day of class. Therefore, there is no class today. How's my finals schedule, you might ask? Friday the 13th - Econ 1 Saturday the 14th - CS184 Wednesday the 18th - EE121 & CS184 Project Thursday the 19th - Star Wars Episode III! w00t! On this day: In 2004: Other than that, I spent all day working on CS184 Project. It's coming along pretty well. Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 5) Total: 11 Good Night! Tuesday, May 10, 2005--Today, I skipped Econ 1 Discussion in favor of sleep. EE121 Lecture... we finished up the presentations. CS150 Mudterm #3... I slew that mudterm. Question 1 was easy. Question 2 was easy. Question 3 would separate the skilled from the unskilled. Question 4, I misinterpretted and tried to do the entire operation in a single clock cycle and was marked off 5 points. It doesn't matter, though, since I'm still guaranteed an A. On this day: In 2004: The power of KCNM In 2003: Anyways, at 6, I went to the New/Old Officer Mixer to hang out with the TBPeople. Also, it seems I have caught a cold. NOOOOOOO!!! Now, I have to choose between getting rest and getting work done. However, since I'm strong, I opt to get work done. Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 2) Total: 8 Good Night! Monday, May 9, 2005--This morning, I opted to skip EE121 Discussion because it's the 2nd-to-last day of school and I'm lazy. Econ 1 Lecture... I opted not to take notes because it's the 2nd-to-last day of school and I'm lazy. E190... I opted not to rank people's presentations because it's the 2nd-to-last day of school and I'm lazy... although Jay's presentation was awesome... although he had to change it to meet Marcel's standards. (luncbreak... but I opted not to eat lunch because Marcel fed us donuts and I'm lazy.) CS184... but it was a review session because it's the 2nd-to-last day of school and they're lazy. Fencing... I opted not to go because it's the 2nd-to-last day of school and I'm lazy. Dice Roll of the Day: None, because it's the 2nd-to-last day of school and I'm lazy. Just kidding, (1, 1) Total: 2 Hmm... do I sense a theme for today's entry? I won't say Good Night because it's the 2nd-to-last day of school and I'm lazy. Sunday, May 8, 2005--More of the tutoring of Franklin for Chem AP... On this day: In 2004: Daisy: Do you like me? In 2003: Stephanie Y and her eyepatch. At about 8:30ish pm, I returned to Berkeley. Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 5) Total: 9 Good Night! Saturday, May 7, 2005--Today was the TBP Officer elections. Unfortunately, I have to say that I had a very selfish agenda today. I knew that the officer corps was being downsized, so I voted to put the people who were more qualified than me for IT on other committees so that I would have less competition for IT. That's why I voted for Trent for CSec and Dustin for RSec. That and, I voted all the cute girls into an officer position. Now, I'm trying to remember a cute girl who initiated in the Fall. Mindy: What about Tracy? Shut up, Mindy! Don't remind me of that witch. Anyways, then, Vikram nominated me to run for IT Chair against Alex Kan. I initially hesitated, since Alex Kan could run circles around me in pure knowledge, but Robert tells me "You never know if you don't try," so I did. They had a surprisingly long discussion for such a one-sided vote. Later, it was time to run for IT Committee. Apparently, I overdid eliminating the competition, because we were one seat short of a full committee. Oops. Thankfully, we recruited Prateek on the basis that he could pick up PHP and MySQL pretty quickly, just like I did. Then, I went home, where I had to tutor Franklin for Chemistry AP. Chem AP is tough, man. Dice Roll of the Day: (5, 1) Total: 6 Good Night! Friday, May 6, 2005-- On this day: In 2004: The whole Troy and Superb incident. I begin holding a grudge against Superb. In 2003: E190... TBP Initiation... Congrats to all the new initiates, particularly those whose names I know, but won't list because I don't want to play any favorites. (My favorites already know who they are anyway, and if they don't, it's all good, because I prefer to keep myself in the dark.) Unfortunately, I fell asleep during one of the better parts of the ceremony (I'm oath-bound not to reveal the ceremony, so I can't tell you what it was). It made me feel very guilty. I swear to god, it's the room. 306 Soda is cursed with making me fall asleep. TBP Banquet... highlights include arm-wrestling, where Ann beat Meehan, because Ann is awesome like that. She won Candidate of the Semester and was the first candidate ever to lead the candidates for a third try of the modern TBP yell, which actually rivaled that of the Officers. Vikram: Dwayne, are you going to Karaoke later? Me: It depends on who else is going. Vincent: That means how many girls are going. Well met, Vincent. Well met. Another highlight was iNuma, our very own Numa Numa video, which was awesome. Lastly, when they were giving out officer thankyous, they called out Tracy, and Tracy starts clapping and turns around expecting someone else to get up and accept the thankyou. Silly Tracy. Dice Roll of the Day: (1, 2) Total: 3 Good Night! Thursday, Cinco de Mayo, 2005--Supposably, it's Karen's birthday today. So um... Happy Birthday? Econ 1 Discussion... CS184 Discussion... EE121 Lecture... We were supposed to present our projects today. At the beginning of lecture, Tanya tells me that I'm doing all the talking because "no one understands [her] when [she] talks". Then, right before our presentation, she decides to go into an in-depth report on rate-distortion theory, and I'm just like "Umm... do you just want me to stand here?" CS150 Lecture... After the HKN evaluations, Wawrzynek asks us if we want the quiz or the lecture. The majority of the students wanted the quiz, but a bunch of persons wanted to have the lecture so that they could "have more time to study". LOL, didn't I always say that if you do your homework, you'll do just fine on quizzes? Literally true, because the CS150 quizzes are identical to homework problems. Then, I ditched lecture, because it was review. Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 5) Total: 9 Good Night! Wednesday, May 4, 2005--CS150 Discussion... Andrew was 20 minutes late and I ended up not paying attention to him anyway. Hehe... oops! Econ 1 Lecture... Nadia and I were distracted by the Daily Cal's crossword... for some reason... E190... Jesse Young has the 2nd most awesome presentation in our class. Abhi showed me this Chinese restaurant hidden above the Southside Asian ghetto. That's right. Above. As in y-axis above. And then, it rained... CS184 Lecture... On this day: In 2003: I pay too much attention to Joanna and not enough to Stephanie. I spent part of the night talking with Viv Chu, who got into Berkeley EECS. Congrats to Vivian Chu. Unfortunately, she seems to lack self-confidence. Dice Roll of the Day: (1, 3) Total: 4 Good Night! Tuesday, May 3, 2005--Today's entry will be out of order because, *gasp* nothing happened in class today! What a shocker! (Sarcasm doesn't translate well in writing.) Anyways, so this nalf IMs me and the following conversation ensues: pika booger: hey pika booger: dude stop hitting on my friend Viltris: do i know you? pika booger: maybe Viltris: do i know this friend of yours? pika booger: yes, i'm quite sure you do Viltris: and yet i still have no idea who you're talking about pika booger: don't worry.. you'll figure it out Viltris: how interesting Viltris: is that a threat? pika booger: nah And then, he logged off. You know what's funny, though. I have no idea who this nalf is, nor do I have even the foggiest idea which girl he's referring to. "You'll figure it out", he says. Heh, not worth my effort. Although I'm pretty sure my goons might be interesting in trashing him. Yes, that's always an amusing pasttime. Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 1) Total: 5 Good Night! Monday, May 2, 2005--For some odd reason, I only got 4 hours of sleep last night. Perhaps I was being paranoid. Oh well. EE121 Discussion... Later, I would realize that I had forgotten to turn in my homework. Damn! Econ 1 Lecture... E190... Once again, I was given charge of the camera. (lunchbreak) CS184 Lecture... I had no trouble falling asleep... which may have been a bad thing. After working on Econ problem set a bit, I came to a difficult dilemma: Sleep? Or fence? Olek told me to sleep because it was pointless to fence if my body isn't up to the task. (I would later find out that he twisted his knee while fencing. Ouch!) So... I slept. Good Night! Dice Roll of the Night: (1, 4) Total: 5 Sunday, May 1, 2005-- On this day: In 2003: "Existence does not exist outside of the universe." After working on my homework a bit, I returned to Berkeley. God damn it, I'm so lazy. I need someone to make me do work when I have to. Otherwise, I procrastinate like mad, and we all know that's a bad thing. In the meantime, I need to talk to her again. Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 1) Total: 5 Good Night! Saturday, April 30, 2005--I meant to do homework today, but instead, I ended up playing Fire Emblem. D'oh! On this day: In 2004: I complete my Red-Green Sliver Deck. w00t! Anyways, at night, Kellie came over to hang out and we played Super Monkey Ball 2 on the GameCube. Now that's quality gaming. Nintendo certainly knows how to do fun. Dice Roll of the Day: (2, 5) Total: 7 Good Night! Friday, April 29, 2005--E190... I did my presentation. Apparently, I had perfect timing. Booyah! Then, I stopped off to do yet another field test of my CS150 project before heading off for home. Upon arriving, I played Fire Emblem, which is a pretty good game. Dice Roll of the Day: (3, 3) Total: 6 Good Night! Thursday, April 28, 2005--Econ 1 Discussion... CS184 Discussion... EE121 Lecture... CS150 Lecture... Slack off... and do CS184 project... HKN Video Game Night... so I was playing Katamari Damacy. That game is awesome. Apparently, I'm a natural, too, since I just kept beating everyone in 2 player mode (well, except for the veterans... I didn't play anybody who claimed to be a veteran, though). Tanya was the only one who could consistently escape my wrath. On this day: In 2003: Dice Roll of the Day: (5, 4) Total: 9 Good Night! Wednesday, April 27, 2005--CS150 Discussion... Econ 1 Lecture... E190... Colleen came back to visit. Yay! (lunchbreak) CS184 Lecture... On this day: In 2003: I tear open my arm on a Soda Fountain. Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 2) Total: 6 Good Night! Tuesday, April 26, 2005--Econ 1 Discussion... (break, I nearly finished my CS150 homework in about 45 minute) EE121 Lecture... CS150 Lecture... I sat with Melody, who still thinks I ditched EE20 lecture when I actually stuck around in lecture just so I could sit with her. Now, to work on my CS184 project. On this day: In 2003: BAMM... we lose in the semi-finals to Homestead... There was a seeding error, and we should have faced them in the finals, because we were by far the second best team. I keep forgetting that Carise sometimes reads my website. I should watch what I say. Dice Roll of the Day: (2, 5) Total: 7 "Broken mirror, a million shades of light, the old echo fades away, But just you and I can find the answer, and then We can run to the end of the world. Saturday, April 23, 2005--I can summarize my day by saying KLT Simulation. It's for my EE121 project. Don't bother reading it if you have no math/science/engineering background because, while it's informal, it's pretty technical. I started the thing today, basically, and finished it today. Tanya will be happy. On this day: In 2004: I learn how to play Settlers of Catan. Sarah T was logged on today. She has turned to the dark side. I was just in time for E190... Then, I visited the CS150 lab to do some more field testing of my project. Apparently, after about 15-20 minutes, it's no longer guaranteed to work. Hmmm... Then, since Prof Kristel told us to, I went to the Calview office to see my presentation on video. I didn't know my voice sounded like that! (I kinda liked it, though.) Also, I noticed I didn't fidget around much, but I gesticulated like mad. (It's funny when viewed in fast forward.) Also, I talk too fast. I'm like an unrefined version of Garcia. Next up, I'd be in my room and napping and slacking. This is Friday, after all, my self-proclaimed day of rest (not to be confused with Sunday, which is the Christian day of rest.) EE121 Lecture... CS150 Lecture... Obviously a very boring day. I spent the rest of the day (if I recall) doing Econ homework and starting on the simulation I was supposed to run for EE121 (which I intend to do on Saturday). Then, I went to an HKN meeting. It's funny how I barely know anyone from HKN anymore (other than Tracy) how sad. Next up was fencing. Only 2 saberists showed up today (the other one was Mike), but then Erik, the makeshift saberist (who also does Epee), came and joined the fun and fenced Mike until they turned off the lights on us. I guess they're too timid to come in a manually kick us out, huh? Dice Roll of the Day: (2, 3) Total: 5 Hmm... I wonder whatever happened to Sarah. Oh, sorry. Good Night! Ashley Eden (the TA) guest-lectured on Non-PhotoRealistic Rendering. I slept through most of the lecture, because my internal clock is screwed up. Afterwards, I met with Tanya to discuss the EE121 project. Then, we discussed with Prof Gastpar. Apparently, I'm not suited for theory, and Tanya doesn't like to get her hands dirty with practical stuff, so there's only one viable solution: divide & conquer, yo! Then, I went to CS150 Lab to borrow a CS150 book to do homework with the girls. Seriously, it's the only reason I ever go to CS150 Lab anymore--the girls. Isn't that ironic? I am caught up on entry-making. Please enjoy! On this day: In 2003: Friday, April 15, 2005--The journal has been interrupted to bring you this special MTG Draft Report. So I went drafting again, first time in a loooong time. It was fun. Anyways, I, as always, went red-black again. This is my deck, which actually looks the same as always, 'cause I always draft this deck. I'm also too lazy to put in card links, so use Gatherer to find a card you don't know. So here was my deck: 10xSwamps 7xMountains Shinka, the Bloodsoaked Keep 2xBile Urchin Nezumi Cutthroat Ashen-Skin Zubera Wicked Akuba 2xSkullsnatcher Rend Spirit Horobi's Whisper 2xGibbering Kami Befoul Eradicate 2xScuttling Death Frostling Ember-First Zubera Glacial Ray 2xBrutal Deceiver Torrent of Stone Shuriken I also rare-drafter Hisoka, Minamo Sensei, not because he's good, but because he's legendary. According to William, all the people I played today were really good. Well, it's no surprise that my record is worse today, since instead of playing little kids, I played actual good people. Either that or I'm getting rusty. You never know. I'll have to look at my game report if this ever goes through. Game 1: I played this dude named Danny who played blue and something else. Most of his creatures had 2 or less power, so in the first game, I held my removal too long, expecting something bigger to show up, but it never did. However, he had Shimmering Glasskites, which are a pain in the ass for red-black. Thankfully, I was able to destroy one with one of my weirder plays. First, I had a Shuriken equipped, and I threw it a the Glasskite, knowing full well that it would be countered. Then, with its shield down, I rended the Glasskite's flesh. Unfortunately, he won the first game, and I won the second, and we ran out of time for the third game, so I just offered him a draw. Record: 0-0-1 Game 2: I went up against Canhuang, who was reportedly really good. He ran a 3-color deck: blue, black, and white. It featured the Genju of the Falls and the blue and black Honden. Somehow, I managed to beat him, even though the Genju was bothering me the whole time. (Interestingly, in one of the games, when he turned his Island into a creature with his Genju to block, I eradicated his Island. Interestingly enough, he only had four islands in his deck. Thankfully, the Genju was gone for good. And I managed to win somehow. Record: 1-0-1 Game 3: I went up against Victor, and judging by his name, you should be able to guess who won. He ran a contraption that was eerily similar to Canhuang's, except in different colors. Instead he had the red Genju and the white honden. However, his also deck packed some powerful flying shit and lots of Arcane spells and a pair of Glacial Rays. That is painful. The round went to the third game. In the last few turns, he knocked me down to 1 life, but I managed to clear his board of creatures and started fighting back with my Gibbering Kamis. Then, he topdecks a Red Genju for the win. Record 1-1-1 Somehow, I still manged to open a prize booster, which contained a Patron of the Orochi and not much else. Anyways, I hope my readers enjoy magic as much as I do.Unfortunately, I probably won't be saying much more because I only have as much to say as I do to play, and I didn't play any more this night. Good Night! Thursday, April 14, 2005--Today, Dwayne renders a bunch of images on his Ray Tracer (which are on display at http://inst.eecs.berkeley.edu/~cs184-cw/, and takes an EE121 mudterm. I think I did pretty well considering I had no time to study. Besides, I got a 91 on Mudterm #1, so it should average out okay. Dice Roll of the Day: (5, 5) Total: 10 And that concludes our whirlwind tour. The entries from April 7 to April 14 were written on April 16. The entry for April 15 was written on April 15. Thursday, April 7, 2005--And now, for a whirlwind tour of my week, since I haven't been updating. unfortunately, I don't remember anything at all about what happened today, since this entry is being posted on April 16. Hehe, oops. On this day: In 2003: Connie Chu... Dice Roll of the Day: (1, 6) Total: 7 Good Night! Wednesday, April 6, 2005--Tired... why do I have so much werk? On this day: In 2004: CS150 Discussion... was cancelled since we have no homework this week. Econ 1 Lecture... E190 Lecture... Our presentation was awesome, if not a bit too long. Stopped by to drop off my design at the CS150 Lab... Lunch with Josh "WTF" Chang... prolly because he wanted to bum a free meal. CS184 Lecture... Anyways, I probably shouldn't waste time, but eh. I have a new pet chatbot by the name of CuteElfAliceZeng. She runs off the JAIMBot and MegaHAL engines. She learns by imitating what people say and combining it with things she know. My friends have taught her the craziest shit, so when you talk to her, keep an open mind. Oh, and she's a lot like a parrot, so if you want her to be nice, teach her to talk nice. Please, teach her to talk nice. She has plenty of insanity in her already. Dice Roll of the Day: (2, 2) Total: 4 Some day, I'll make my own chat bot, but for now, MegaHAL will suffice. Good Night! Tuesday, April 5, 2005--Since I went to bed late last night, I woke up late this morning. I missed Econ 1 Discussion, which may or may not have been important. *shrug* EE121 Lecture... CS150 Mudterm #2... it was trivial. I got a 59 out of 62 due to a stupid error. It was so stupid I was laughing my ass off when I got my test back. Oh well. I have no reason to complain. CS150 Lab... Checkpoint #3 is coming along. And I still have a tendency to waste time. Damn me! Dice Roll of the Day: (3, 6) Total: 9 Suddenly, I'm in the mood to make my own chatbot, except it'll probably take forever! *shrug* Good Night! Monday, April 4, 2005--Stupid Daylight Savings Time. I tried to wake up at 7 today, but my body thought it was 6, so by the time I woke up, it was already 8, and within moments, I was half an hour late to a 1-hour EE121 Discussion... Econ 1 Lecture... E190... During this class, we had to choose which groups would go first. Me: Let's roll the dice for it. Jeff: Yeah, 20-sided dice! Me: 20-sided? I have some of those. *pulls out 3 20-sided die from my backpack* You thought I was just joking, didn't you? Jeff: Whoa, shit! (lunchbreak) CS184 Lecture... Fencing... For some odd reason, when I should have been doing schoolwork, I wasted three and a half hours browsing random websites looking at various software for Chatbots. (I did find a good one eventually, though, so it wasn't a total loss.) But still, I should have done more work. Dice Roll of the Day: (5, 5) Total: 10 Good Night! Sunday, April 3, 2005--All day all night planning out CS184 final project. w00t! Dice Roll of the Day: (2, 1) Total: 3 Good Night! Saturday, April 2, 2005--It should be obvious by now that yesterday's entry was an April Fools' joke. However, as they say, the best lie is the truth said in an unbelievable way, and they also say that the best lies are half-truths. Thus, my entry yesterday was full of half-truths. You're goal is to separate the lies from the truth. First person to get them all correct wins a candy bar. On this day: In 2004: I play my first booster draft at Games of Berkeley. Anyways, today was the TBP Big Social at Tilden park. It was amusing, but I really don't remember why. Dice Roll of the Day: (3, 4) Total: 7 Good Night! Friday, April 1, 2005--Today was pretty awesome. Because I didn't spend last night fencing, I got into bed early and thus woke up pretty early today, just in time to get to Bechtel to eat Donuts & Bagels with TBP. On this day: In 2004: In 2003: "We're kicking butt, 2 to 2!" At Donuts & Bagels, I ran into Karen (well, how could I not? she's VP) who had accepted my offer to take EE125 with me. Hold up, I should back up a bit and give you gys more background info. So anyways, EE125 is cross-listed as BioE 125, and since Karen is BioE, she could potentially take this class, so I asked her to take EE125 with me because, well, Karen's cute. And I like having cute girls in my class. So yeah, it all ends up good, because Karen's in my class and she's a cute girl, but I digress. The main point was, since I found out that I don't actually need to do jack shit next semester (see a few paragraphs down), I was considering taking easy classes next semester, but I certainly can't pass up this opportunity to be in the same class as Karen! E190... This was one crazy class. After giving us a quiz, which later degenerated into group work, just like on Wednesday, Marcel showed us Chindogu.com, which had the following: "Do you know what a chindogu is. Well, dogu is Japanese for "tool" and chin is Japanese for "weird" (not to be confused with the Japanese for "penis", which is also chin). Thus, a chindogu is a weird tool. (Likewise, chinchin is a weird penis. However, under no circumstances is chindogu ever a penis tool. At least not yet.)" It was hilarious. The whole class was laughing like mad. Naturally, we had some assignment on it: We had to take one of the Chindogu (useless invention) and try to market it. It was easy and amusing, to say the least. Faculty Advising with Prof Gastpar... For those of you who didn't know, I actually could have graduated this semester if I had actually checked the box on Tele-bears when signing up for classes. But I didn't, so I have to stay here for an extra semester. Since I don't have any more requirements to fulfill, I figure I should screw around the next semester, right? Minimum courseload is 12, which means 3 classes, so I'm taking: EE125 (So I can be with my darling Karen) Music 49C (So I can be with my darling Tiffany) Econ 100B (So I can be with my darling Kara) See? I know where my priorities lie. CS150 Lab Lecture... it finally happened. Colleen snapped and lashed out at Greg. It was bound to happen. Colleen has a tendency to surpress her anger (or so I would assume, because she always seems so kind and gentle even when life literally rapes her in the ass). So yeah, here is how it happened: Colleen (to Tiffany): ...trained them to work at the animal shelter. Me (dropping in on the conversation just now): Wait, are you training animals to work at the animal shelter? Colleen: No, people. Me: Oh, you trained people to work at the animal shelter. Colleen: And then we started training the dogs-- Me: Training the dogs to work at the animal shelter? Greg: Dude, stop being such a wise ass. That's my job! ...Actually, you're doing a pretty good job. Colleen (to Greg): Leave us the fuck alone. I'm so sick and tired of you picking on us all the time. The rest is a blur to me, but I'm pretty sure that Greg came up with a witty remark, and Colleen yelled at him some more, and eventually she ran out the room in tears. Well, this explains her LiveJournal entry. Poor girl. I almost feel sorry for her. Actually, I really do feel sorry for her, because Greg can be intimidating if he wants. But yeah, instead of listening to Lab Lecture, I went outside to comfort Colleen and thus ended up missing the entire Lab Lecture. On to more heartening events... So today, as all of you Californians should know (and by Californian, I mean Berkeley Cal, not California Cal), today is the the Spring Formal. So I go with my lovely date (whom I have told you about countless times) Kara. It was awesome. It was just like a high school dance, except it was in college, except I've never been to a high school dance, so I really wouldn't know. I kinda suck at dancing, but Kara and her friends tried to teach me. Yeah, Kara's cool like that. All in all, it was awesome. Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 1) Total: 5 Excellent Night! Dice Roll of the Day: (2, 5) Total: 7 Good Night! Tuesday, March 29, 2005--Surprisingly enough, the last entry didn't push this page over the 100KB limit. This entry probably will, though. On this day: In 2003: Franklin Faceless Butchers my Sliver Queen. Bernard and Franklin bring me down to 1 Life. Bernard kills Franklin. I get my Sliver Queen back. I mean, uhh, I miss her. Yeah, that's why I'm asking for Carise. Because I miss her. So I went to get my eyes checked out at the Tang Center. The doctor prescribed some drugs for me, but he also told me that it wasn't very threatening and that it'll just go away given enough time. The drugs will just make it go away faster (if it's an honest to goodness infection) or just relieve the symptoms (if it's actually an allergy). In any case, I'm appeased. That and, I have a prescription in case this really does get worse. Or in any case, I should talk to my 'rents since I don't know my insurance information. Later, I would go to the CS150 Lab to get Checkpoint #2 checked off. Christina told me to put 19 hours for "Hours spent" on the check-off sheet. Me: Hmm... how many hours did I spend on this? Christina, give me a random one-digit number! Christina: One-digit? 9. Me: Okay, 9 hours it is. Christina: You're one of those people who's going to screw up the average, aren't you? Me: ...Fine! Nineteen hours. Happy? TBP Meeting... rather empty today, but it was good to actually be able to go and not be stuck in CS150 Lab. Dice Roll of the Day: (5, 6) Total: 11 Good Knight! |
