The thesis basically focuses on 2 important issues. The first is the Chinese-ism of the Buddhist temple in Malaysia. This from my point of view is a problem, for the religion is a universal one. Hence, the intention of the study is to address a pure architecture for the temple. The first crit, was aimed at discovering the teaching of the Buddha and it's relationship to the temple. The conclusion of this finding is that, Chinese architectural style, of the temple, was meant to be a government ministry for the education of Buddhism back into history. Neither do the original teaching and philosophy of Buddha states the rule of such a planning and architectural style. Same goes with the sects schools of each Buddhism path. They are many temple based on sects of Buddhism school philosophy, hence aren't there any temple that is universal regardless of sect and follow the philosophy of the Buddha. The thesis aimed at designing a temple for a universal approach according to the philosophy of Buddha. The second issue of the thesis focuses on the function of today's temple. Quoting from avid practitioner of Buddhism in Malaysia, the issue revolves around the malfunction, misinterpretation of Buddhist temple today. The study revolves around what a temple could be function for and what other function could be integrated to make it a better one to the society.
So the future direction might be to refine the studies and straight on to finding sites. As studied with the approach of architects towards designing that is very much site oriented. The thesis might require to explore new orientation of the temple's function to reach out instead of people come to the temple. The how remains a mystery to be found!!
